I finnaly made a decision

Since I got a bid bored of wow, I was looking for a new mmorpg, I've done some f2p , tried a few trails (EVE online, EQ2,..) I didn't really liked them, there was no game that could keep my attention for so long as wow did. There are also a lot of other games out now, vanguard, AOC, and I'm actually waiting for tcos.. but I'm sick of waiting and reading about those games I wanna play something! I'm looking for a game where I could group and doing quests, I'm a casual player so the game may not be that hardcore..

I really love the lord of the rings lore, I've read all the books, watched all the movies, but I didn't try the game.

But now I made a decission, My exams will end in 2 weeks, then I will buy lotro!

But before I waist my money again I wanna know a few things. Are there a lot of people playing lotro? Is it hard to get into the game? Is the community nice? are there enough people to group with? Is the game addictive? Can I play it as a casual gamer? Just tell me how lotro is :)

Hullo! I think you are making a good decision to purchase the game and give it a try!

To answer some of your questions... " a lot " of players is kind of a subjective number...  I can tell you , I play on one of the lower population servers (Nimrodell) and there are ALWAYS plenty of people in and around the major city hubs (Bree, Rivendell, Thorins Hall ).  Depending on when you play the game, you may find some areas less populated than others, after all it is a pretty big game world, and there are some remote areas where few adventurer's will be passing through.

To me, it gives the game a more realistic feel, and actually makes it kind of special when you do run into another adventurer in the middle of the wild...

Simple answer is that the population is very healthy.

The game is very easy to pick up, you learn a new active skill approx every other level, and the interface is very user friendly.  There are tutorial hints as well, although you may want to turn them off, as some people find them a litle annoying.

This game was almost specifically created for casual PVE play... so if that is what you are looking for, youve come to the right place.  Its very easy to get a few quests done, or do some crafting on tight schedules - but at the same time you can get lost in this game for hours on end if you have the time.

PvP is something I do not have a lot of experience with in this game, but from reading the forums, its a mixed bag - some people really like it, some people do not... so you will have to make a decision on your own here - you do need to hit lvl 10 to create a Creep , and have to be lvl 40 to take your hero to the "battleground" entmoores.

I hope this helps!  If you decide to play on Nimrodell, I will be happy to help you out!  Let me know, I would even be up for starting a new character and leveling up a few levels with you until you get the hang of the game!

Thanks! And I really wanna join your offer to start playing with you but there might be a little problem..

I'm located in europe, and when I start with lotro it will be on the EU servers (I can't find boxes for US here)

To bad :( .. but you certainly helped me with my questions ^^ thanks!

    No Problem!

One other piece of advice I would offer to you.... Play Slowly =)

Read the quests, and take your time, enjoy the scenery... I know a lot of MMO players try to grind out levels so fast, they miss all the fun of playing at lower levels....

The lore in this game is GREAT!  Take the time to read it and get into the story... It will make your gaming experience so much better!

    Best of Luck!

You'll have a great time!   Glad you chose LOTRO.   The community is great.  I play mostly solo, but whenever someone asks a question, several people are ready to help out immediately.  And invitations to Kinships and fellowships are very common.  You should be very pleased.

They are right about the lore of the game.  It keep you going and makes you curious about what it yet to come.

This is something I really enjoyed doing.  Re-read the first chapter or two of the LoTR.  Then start a hobbit, doing every quest you can find and savoring all the obscure book references.

    Nerdgasm.

I don't want to write this, and you don't want to read it. But now it's too late for both of us.

It sounds like LotrO will fit you well!

Think a WoW with better graphics, Lore instead of Loot (well kind off), better community and devs that keeps improving the game with new and interersting stuff all the time! Even if its a group oriented game you can now easily solo to 50.. Even the end game is pretty casual!

Snowbourn is most populated server Ive heard but Evernight aint to bad!

Whats not to like? :) Good luck on the exams!

    If WoW = The Beatles
    and WAR = Led Zeppelin
    Then LotrO = Pink Floyd

see you all in lotro ;-)

We have a couple kinmates in Europe. One is a guy in Germany and the other is in the UK. I'm not sure where they got their US boxes, but I'll ask next time we're on a the same time. I'll pass on that info when I find out.
