The Only Problem With FFXI...

RetradRetrad Member UncommonPosts: 274

Is that it's impossible to lvl solo. I mean, I LOVE grouping with people, but some times it's hard to find a group all the time and sometimes I just want to grind out mobs by myself. This is impossible to do in the game. I really wish they would rethink this and somehow make soloing viable. I think you would see a lot more people playing this game.

One of the reasons I was always attracted to FFxi it really weeds out the immaturity. If you can't group, you won't level. It seemed when I played in the past that if you were good your name got around and you could constantly get a group as apposed to these new genre mmo's where even the worst case scenarios make it to the top and pollute the population.

Edit: Though my big problem right now is the fact that its 8 hours to patch. Jeez that is insane.

  • RetradRetrad Member UncommonPosts: 274

    Soloing does not equate immaturity.

Believe me I know how to group with people for endless of hours, my first MMO was EQ.

The same rules applied in EQ.

You would go to the zone of your choice and spam LFG. Their are times you'd get a group right off the bat, but then there were times you'd have to wait 30min+ to get a group. In the time it took me to wait for a spot to drop I would single pull mobs.

You can't do that in FFXI. I remember waiting 1hr+ for a group, just sitting in the zone spamming but all the groups were full. I was basically sitting there with my hand up my ass unable to even get mediocre xp from single pulls.

The immature players still play the game. Look at all the people who buy up gil. OH NOES IT IS SO HARD TO GET GILS! So? If it was meant to be easy it would be.

I think I rather have a couple of asshats who don't know how to get along with people and for that are reduced to a slow lvl grind in solo play then have a bunch of tards who ruin the economy by buying gil.

Yeah it does kind of suck, sometimes i dont feel like grouping with people. I never really had any problems as pld getting parties until 75. Merit pts want dds and tanks aren't really needed that's why i usually campaign but I don't need too many more merits for my pld these days been doing too much campaign i guess.

Immaturity to you is buying gold? Well thats a bit of a far stretch as a lot of people who are very immature are far to young to have cash of their own to purchase it. None the less you will find people buying currency in any game you go out and find.

Hell, people even try and sell the currency of facebook mini-games now. Where there is a pocket book there is someone trying take the money from it.

I agree, a reason why i quit was it is to hard to find a group at least on my server. Though, I would NOT want them to make this game solo friendly it would ruin it. They just need server merges or need more people to start playing the game again.

Not impossible, just not as fast (depending on some parties you get, it is...) as a normal party. That's what Campaign is good for. Besieged is good for the skillups. Going through dunes, you could actually solo past it without ever being in a party. Just need to consider the options, it's never impossible.

FFXI = Japanese game.  The Japanese pride teamwork > individualism.  Thus, FFXI = a team based game.  You can realistically reach Lv20 solo on pretty much any class with enough time/effort but after that you WILL have to find a group.  You WILL have to know wtf to do.  You WILL have to play well or face the ridicule of others.

That's life in FFXI...  You learn or you gtfo.

That being said, if solo play is what you want  you always have the option of leveling a BST.  Personally, I leveled a BST from 1-75 with out ever entering a party.  And, I did it in less time than I leveled my other 2 75s (Bard and RDM).

However, the knowledge, wealth, and expertise that I learned while grouping in those other 2 jobs allowed me to excel solo on my BST.

That being said, I miss the team-effort that FFXI provided.  I just don't feel the same friendship in WoW that I felt in FFXI. I don't mean guild wise... I mean server wise.  I PUGing 20-75 in FFXI help you to make both friends and allies... you knew who sucked and who didn't.  Wow didn't

also the ff series has aways been based on playing with a party

I agree that the way this game emphasizes party play as more to do with being what Final Fantasy titles are about than being Japanese or immature. :)

Personally, if they took exp loss with death out I'd have much more fun with the game; I just want to have fun and not worry about exp loss whenever friends and I fool around or need my help with something.

It's made me just start sitting in town doing nothing for hours as opposed to just wildly running into a pack of monsters I have no chance of surviving just for a quick laugh/fun like I would in another game.  In addition, it limits my ability to help people from fear of EXP loss since a death when doing a good deed still yields the kind of punishment you would expect from bad karma, not the karma of helping people.  In that sense it pays more to be self serving in the game than benevolent.

Also, having to rely on strangers to basically control the fate of your EXP is also nerve wrecking, especially if you're the main tank.

It would just be ten times more fun if there was no exp loss or possibility of a delevel.... When you have nothing to do you could just fool around as opposed to doing nothing for fear of losing EXP that may only be acquired by waiting a few hours for a party and then spending hours in that party as they expect a commitment rather than just you getting that few thousand EXP that you lost.

I'd be all for exp loss if you could solo, however; wouldn't have to waste an entire day getting the exp back that you lost just for wanting to have fun or helping people and being punished for such.

I love grouping up with people i guess thats why i keep coming back to ffxi. I dont think I should be required to group but I think a big incentive should be given to groups since this is a mmo after all.

Yea if you got the money. Crafting and me constantly trying to lvl other jobs is the reason im dirt poor.

Its not impossible to solo, i solo all the time there is diff rules for soloing one of the best ways to solo is find a Pet kill guide online somewhere just keep in mind other people look for these camps also and usally put in exp comments they are camped there usally these pet camps only support 1-2 people.  Then there is also evasion equip  /dnc sub solo i solo decent to toughs on my 64 drk right now waitting on groups with all evasion gear and /dnc sub get about 2-3k exp a hour, it isn't the best exp but if you could solo large amounts of exp then there would be no point in groups.  You just got to figure out a setup best for your job to solo i'm not saying go out and solo evens & toughs  40-50 exp per mob adds up sooner or later.

I can't imagine anyone LFG for 8 hour sitting infront of the screen doing nothing.

Not possible, it is because you "choose" to LFG for 8 hours, you get 8 hours wasted.

I never have troubles getting a group... you just need to take initiative and start these groups.

I have to agree.  Its unfortunately the reason I had to leave FFXI.  I could never tell people who enjoy the format change it for me!  I love so much of what this game offers but being a college student and married I cannot dedicate hours at a time to group which is curtious.  So i had to leave FFXI behind, I can honestly say I miss a lot of the aspects of the game but I love being able to log into a game and do more than just crafting during the limited time I may have at that moment.  So if you don't like the group play emphasis then play something else :)

If you have time to play WoW and complain you don't time to play FFXI, you are just living in a paradox.

I can spend 2 hour in FFXI every day and get 1-2 level out of it.

at 70-75, it does not take more then 5 hour per level.

Instead of waiting for group, you should "CHAT" with people. Network yourself.

I usually get on ... first thing is "check" your LFG list. See if anyone LFG.

Identify the "popular" class and form a group with them... if they refuse.. just tell them..."think of me, i have this and this equipments"

If you can't spot popular classes, talk with other people LFG .. ask them if they know some friends with popular classes.

If all doesn't work... then log off... do something first or ahead of schedules and come back.

    none

I don't disagree...just saying that some days I am logging in for 45 minutes then going to class for a few hours. My play during semester is 30 minutes here, 45 there, maybe a few hours here. I loved networking in FFXI...still love doing it in mmo's to date.  It isn't nice for me to join a group in FFXI for an hour, most want at least 2 sometimes 3..and hats fine.  For myself I had to measure that to my game time and tried something else that worked better.  Im not playing WoW anymore but it did help out with the time I had available.  Yes I usally get 2 - 3 hours of gaming in daily (not always but mostly) but it is hardly ever for a stretch of the time, its broken up cause of classes, work, homework, housework, making dinner...blah blah...

If you have 2 - 3 solid hours then yes you can do the same thing in FFXI...no arguement there.  I have said FFXI is a fantastic game, will always be my first love :)

Level Sync will help with finding ppl for party, be it exping missions BCNM etc..

But even this won't make come back.

Making isk is still big hassle and timesink (highest lvl 57, cooking 94)

Same for getting certain items from NMs. Maybe I am too casual but I really hate NM camping.

As someone from GMT+1 zone, I was playing during low pop - one group (JP) goes to bed, second (US) is just waking up. It made any effort to play and achieve anything really frustrating, even with big LS.  SE should have done something with it, at least pick a "recomended" server for us.

FInding ppl for some missions is next to impossible  5 years after release (lol ZM). Ppl are mostly done with them or not interested at all. Max I have managed was Shadow lord and Promies, often having to stay up till early morning.

I implied in the other thread that I'm returning, but that would be silly tbqh .

I will just wait fro next SE MMO.

Sorry for this rant, soon to come update with Level Sync made me exited, I needed to remind why I quit.
