Ok, I have been playing MMOS for awhile now, but I never really understood anything till I really only got into WoW.
I started off with Horizons not knowing what a MMO even was, I was pretty impressed and I had a scout that got to about level 20. I was talking to my friend about the game and he said, "that sounds alot like dark age of camelot" so i canceled my horizons account and went out and got daoc. I got to about lvl 30 in a few days from my friend powerleveling me, thats when I got familar with the combat system and guild/chat channels and mounts etc of MMOS. This was when DAoC was when it was on it's way out, and talk of WOW was getting bigger and bigger, so then I got Anarchy Online and I liked it but didn't really attract me to want to continue playing after my free-month.
I got WoW at launch, and played with the guys from an Gamespot store on alliance for awhile till I talked my friends into playing then we switched to horde. Got a 60.
Quit for awhile and tried out Matrix Online luckily I talked to the lady at wal-mart to allow me to return it and I got my money back, thank god.
I went back to WoW re-rolled another character got him to about 40. Then Dungeons and Dragons: Online came out and i RP'ed and did some DMing before so I was happy as hell. I liked the game, but my friends computer at the time couldnt run it so I went back to wow and got my character up to 60. Starting raiding with both characters for about 10 months and then the expansion came out and I played for awhile. Then when LoTR:O came out I bought and tried it for the first free month and kinda liked it but once again my friend's computer couldnt run it very well so I went back to WoW, and then I beta'ed Fury and hated it.
So turns out my WoW subscription ran out today actually, and I have a 70 Tauren Hunter, 68 Tauren Warrior, 61 Troll Shaman, 49 Undead Rogue, 42 Tauren Druid, 60 Night Elf Hunter, and 51 Draeni Shaman. Im bored of WoW and I don't eve want to look at the icon on my desktop, the only thing that is even wanted me to play at all is the fact that i have a IRL friend that plays on the same server (and luckily he got a new computer and is actually better than mine).
So heres the concepts of a MMO that I like.
As far as level grind - I dont care though Lineage massive amount of time doest really excite me I would say the time it takes to get a character on wow 1-70 is fine.
PVP - I like fraction pvp as well as arena pvp and objective. However it should have some meaning, wow's pvp went to hell. BGs are mediocre and take forever to get pvp rewards that anyone with time can get, and arena is great and fun but its un-balanced druid ftw, and world pvp is dead. Im looking forward to WAR's pvp style.
PVE - PVE doesnt really matter to me. I like soloing but if i want to group I want to be able to find a group within minutes not hours (or never). I like end-game a lot but if i would rate myself, I would say i would be a casual raider. Pre-TBC i was in a top guild on my server and we were on the 3rd boss in Naxx (becasue 1 person died it didnt mean a wipe), and in TBC i did some Kara but it was different cause every person mattered.
Crafting - In wow I never crafted, I only gather so it doesnt matter to me, but Horizons had a really good crafting system that I liked. I wasn't too found of LoTR:0 crafting.
Difficulty - I find WoW to be extremely easy and I like that, i like the fact that i could play wow and be productive while multitasking. (ie: doing a quest while getting fat off a sandwich) though I've played DAoC and DD:O which has a lot more skill/thought process than wow and still managed. I tried the trial for eve (knowning that its very difficult) but I didn't like the concept of sci-fi so i didnt get to even notice the difficulty.
Community - An active community is a must. Maybe I picked a low population server when I played LoTR:O but I didnt see too many people and I didnt really care for the instanced zones. DD:O had a lot of people when it launched and I had an easy time reaching lvl 6, but I wanted to re-try it and i downloaded the trial there were hardly any players around. I hate the wow community, its all abunch of fanboi's that suck at life. I know there are a few out there that are cool and I wouldnt mind hanging out with IRL, but mostly I would love to punch them in the throat.
Performance - heres some info from my Dxdiag

I would really like to get my hands on beta for WAR but I don't like the idea of waiting around playing a game to start all over and completely erase my efforts.
Age of Conan - i hear great things about it but at the same time i hear just as many bad things about it (and believe me i know about launch bugs so i can understand), but I hate the idea of instanced zone. WoW def. spoiled me with only 1 loading zone per continent which could take hours and hours to go from top to bottom without loading once.
I expimented with the free2play MMOs and I disliked them all. The standard 14.99 doesnt really matter to me.
I have an xbox360 which is great but its not a mmo, i have a job, a girl friend, im a president of a fraternity, and a 3.65 college gpa going into my senior year. I have a life believe me, but mmo's are my hobby and i want to continue this hobby.
Btw: my friend is into the same type of gameplay when it comes to mmo's so im hoping to talk him into playing a new one with me.
Waiting for:
Blizzards Next MMO in 2014, lol

Great post but trust me, there is nothing out there. LOTRO looks okay but only if you like that universe, which I do not. Vanguard... I wouldn't get my hopes up. They ran out of money for crying out loud. Wait for WAR if you like PvP and maybe Aion if you like PvE.
final fantasy 11 is a very group based game. maybe try that,
or if you dont mind the graphics. try out eq
I bought FFXI a week and a half ago, and quit yesterday. Do NOT BUY IT under any circumstances. You will not have fun till about level 50-55. It's just not worth it. Video games are for FUN!
Hi Cky,
really hard to give you any advice on MMOs... i have pretty much the same profile as you (GF, having a life and stuff)... Why don't you give a try on CoH/CoV and see how it goes... it's funny and won't require much attention (like droping GF to play hehe)... the craft part is kinda slow... not like DAoC used to be (I miss that)... LoTRO was the worst try I did on the past couple of years... maybe now it's better, but on release was really bad... Anyways, my tip is CoH/CoV and AoC... CoH you can get a trial and see how it goes, if you like you order the retail...
Id try LOTRO again...alot has changed and has been growing since I joined a few months back. Play on Brandywine it is one of the largest LOTRO servers.

Hey!
I'm in the same boat as you.
I managed a 70 in WoW finally and I just lost interest.
It became a game all about Arena and BG.
I am looking for something PvP orientated, but keep my interest like WoW did.
So far, I've been downloading and buying and trying all sorts of games.
Honestly, I would wait for Aion.
For now though, I'm playing
Rohan ( Newly released open beta game)
It's alot like Lineage 2. The PvP system implemented is unique.
There is a class that can gain exp from just killing other people in the game.
(Dhan at lvl 30+) I'm not sure about Dekan. But they can change into a dragon at 50+ I believe.
The Item Mall just opened today I guess. I have yet to check it out.
You may not like the game. I'm not totally satisfied because of the things I miss about WoW.
AKA Jumping, swimming, quests etc. It's really grind orientated. But that doesn't mean it's not a good game. It's got an edge so far. I'm waiting to see what PvP
at 30 is like.
Other than that, I have a suggestion.
You could try an FPS kind of game in the meantime.
I play Rakion. And it's skill based, can be alot of fun though!
I used to play GunZ The Duel aswell.
I hope that helps a little.
Hope you're unlike me. I try a game for about 10 minutes sometimes and throw it out cuz I'm unhappy with it.
