Round about how big are patches on average? I downloaded a fairly recent client yet it's patching hundreds upon hundreds of MBs...The percentage-complete measure is quite useless because it measures the percentage by amount of files downloaded instead of total download size.

Depending on where you downloaded from you may be downloading the launch client. Since then we have had over 24 patches and 1 major expansion. MMOFury has the most recent version, but there are still about 12 patches since that client was built.
We will be releasing a new client for download on 6/25 with the Nocturnal Sonata Expansion release that will be the newest and shouldn't have too many patches to download.
On average a patch is anywhere from 1M to 10M. But the expansion pack was about 500M and our next expansion pack will be about the same. The full client size for Nocturnal Sonata is 4.3 gigs.

The client I downloaded is titled: "SNW_2.1.18_CBT.zip"
Ouch... that is the launch client. Like I said above, we are working on updating the client around the web. Our download page has the companies we are officially working with who will be getting the most recent version in a week.
