I completely agree. I have a top end machine and can run Vanguard on max settings with about 40-50 FPS. With the exception of that lag hour a couple afternoons ago, I haven't had any trouble. I too like the open seamless design, which is one of the reasons I returned after playing AoC.

I seen all of the recent hype of these forums and decided to resub to Vanguard, because I wasn't happy with AoC. I was told the game was fixed, the community was healthy and growing, and that all was well. Okay great!, I said, because I loved Vanguard as a game and my major problems with it was the annoying bugs and low population levels.
Well, first of all, there are still bugs in the game. I haven't found any ground breaking yet or that really effected my enjoyment of the game, but there are still some bugs. For instance, I cannot see the rain or snow in the game, which only happens to Vista users that use a resolution of 1600 x and greater.
Second of all, the community still is pretty small and the loyal Vanguardians admit it in-game and take pride in it and even go as far as to say that they have quality over quantity. Fair enough, but at least don't act like the game has a booming population. Also, the community thinks they are the best and most mature community in any MMORPG rigt now. From what I can see, the majority is helpful and mature, however, there are some immature players that can completely piss you off and make you want to cancel your sub and uninstall. Since I've only been back a couple days, I cannot say if this is a fluke or common.
Overall, the game does still has some faults, but the game is really nice. The game has a lot of features and they work, plus the game is large, wide open and seamless. The size of the community can be a problem and the fact that they are stuck in their ways can also be a problem. For example, some people were talking about how they have only 10 people in their guilds and I suggested the community, since they are smallish and they said the Seradon community is mature and friendly, "Why not combine the guilds that have similar objectives," and I was looked at like I had horns growing out of my head. It makes perfect sense, because you all get along anyways and are competing for the same type of guild members. A larger guild attracts newcomers easier, because it gives the illusion that you have enough people to run more groups and do the harder content.
At any rate, the purpose of this thread is to inform those looking to play this game of the truth, because it seems that the Vanguardian's are laying it on a bit thick on these boards.
So you waste our time in Kojan by bitching because you can't 2 shot a mob at level 5 as a Sorc and now you waste our time with this drivel?

    Psh. Leave us alone.

Again, with the lies. You need to quit exagerating the facts and stop being a prick. The fact is that I was new to the Sorceror class and didn't understand why my class was taking several shots to kill an even con mob as a class designed to take out things fast. In most games, a level 5 mage can 2 shot an even con. I made a comparison and was rudely called out for making the comparison. It honestly has nothing to do with being a to 2 shot a mob or not, because it is all relative in the end. It has everyting to do with class balance, which at level 5 I was ensure of and was inquiring about the problem in /regionsay. It is you, and your asshole friend who blew it out of proportion by putting me on the defense for comparing the game to others and by judging a class at lvl 5. Well, I judge every games class early on, because I have a life and refuse to waste it leveling every class up to mid levels before I finally decide to roll with a particular class. In almost every game, the classes have been balanced appropriately (at least by my standards) in both the lower, mid, and high levels. Maybe not in PvP, but at least in PvE.

I've had no problems with class balance in PvE at any level for most classes in DAoC, WoW, CoH, GW,  and LoTRO. That is quite a few MMORPGs setting the bar for having classes balanced at all levels for PvE. The fact that you are still badgering me over the way I do things is proof that you are a prick and are immature to say the least. Your signature is even more proof of this matter, along with your avatar. "Your Mom?" I mean common, what are you in 5th grade. Now shoosh and leave the thread to real adults. (yep, I just sank to your level, because that's all you seam to understand).

1° this game needs more improvements but SOE is making  a good job

2° vg needs more players: let"s wait now for a trial.

    3° this world is really impressive : try this : /setfog 999999

    jan 2007: piece of crap

juil 2008: good game and you can get it for few bucks.

Game works better since GU5 : now can say i'm playing VG not beta testing vg. (stopped 3 maybe 4 months the game because was bored by the hitching etc. Came back for GU5, now can say i 'm a fan - not a fanboy: this game needs more and more improvvements, new patches, addons etc and it's my favorite game NOW.)

All mmorpgs needs time: aoc needs time too. If people cant' understand, they have to change their mind or stop the MMOS.

Yeah, SOE has done a good job fixing Vanguard, albeit slowly. I was in Kojan finishing up the questline to earn the Lao'Jin Knight title and I felt so liberated being able to walk through fields of bamboo. The world is so wide open and I think such a thing is underrated. Hell, maybe I'll create a new thread to highlight this point.

I would definitely consider Vanguard out of beta and in a releasable state now. For all who are reading, I, a critic, feel that Vanguard is safe to return to now.

The game still needs much work in far to many areas, but sadly that seems to be the standard of many games right now so VG is worth mentioning I guess.  The game is playable, but polish is not a word that should be tossed around in regards to the gameplay.
If SOE was willing to put real effort [$$$$$] into the game I think it could rise from the ashes and really make a name for itself.  I suspect they think it will just pull subscribers from EQ2 and not net a real gain overall.  That and I get the feeling that SOE is cutting loose from fantasy games and moving towards areas with less competition.  I just really get the impression that SOE has totally given up on fantasy games.

I wouldn't be surprised if SOE is hard at work behind the scenes ready to go all MMO with the PS3. They're also working away for their future plans of going all Micro payment. They've sat up and noticed the micro payment system can make a lot of players end up paying more per month than a fixed monthly sub. All they need is pixel crack and advantages given for credits you buy with rl cash, and sit back and watch as the money rolls in. They know there are enough people willing to part with their cash just so they can stand out or be more powerful. Tapping in to the same drive that made gold sellers such a problem due to the demand for their wares on the black market. To many out there who want the edge, and are willing to stop at nothing to get it.

The micro payment system even catches those out who never intended to pay more than they would a fixed monthly sub since people can get so carried away buying a little bit here, and a little bit there which all adds up. You'll be surprised how many people fail to see the bigger picture when spending small amounts though the month, then act so surprised at the amount it all comes to at the end of the month. This is often the main fault of all people who are bad at managing their finances.

this would never work in a real MMO environment because it would devastate the player economy. Perhaps for single-player online games, but for MMOs it's a no-no...

    Try it before buying.

I'll never say to someone to buy a mmo. If it s working fine on YOUR computer + you like this game, buy it (suggest to take a CE, you 'll find one for 25€ /30$. Artbook and music are really great)

    But before, TRY IT.

(I have no more keys i'm sorry . or maybe u could wait for trial) Never buy a game if you haven't try it before. Never.

Before AOC's beta testing thought it was the best MMO on the market, kind of DAOC + Shadowbane. Arg i'ts not at all.

    And try this too

(thx to the OP for this: /seftfog 999999 and VG becomes really impressive !)

    I'm sorry but you're wrong.

VG has been saved by SOE. They worked hard 1 year only to save VG. Imo they saved it.

Tried to play VG many times since 2007 (stopped VG many times)

    - release: a DISASTER.

    - 3 months after... same

    - june 2007: not really fun. Couldn't ctrl my necro's pet, a lot of CTD

    - september: not really fun

    - then came the GU3: the 1srt big improvement of the game. Played and had fun with VG for the 1srt time for christmas. Event has been fun too Much better than Lotro's ridiculous and poor events

    Really cool and fun

    - then the GU4 and GU5.

    Now i play VG.

SOE gave me 60 days of free subs to EQ2.

    I can play EQ2 60 months without paying a $

But i took another month to VG.

that"s all . EQ2 is nice and polished but seems very small when i think about VG. VG is impressive. Imo.

VG is my main MMO ( laptop), EQ2 is actually my reroll MMO   (notebook)

    I'm sure i won't take a sub in september for EQ2.

Projects for 2009: probably War + VG.

    And a 8800 GTX.

VG is sleeping and waiting for new players. It only needs one more patch (anti hitching code) + a trial.

GM are cool in VG: yesterday they changed suddently chars in Chicken lol, for 10 min. Was in a dungeon and LOL played with a CHICKEN NECRO. Finished the quest ;)

Well at bout 8 quid for a box thats virtualy free. I have no issue with that. I had a blast with AoC but it is starting to look like a waste of time. Not much of a real game (as in MMO) past the very slick and fun story driven first bits. Kind of like LoTRO kind of  like a lot of stuff. Funnilly enough the main reason I quit LoTRO was lack of players to group with even for the 'chapter' based main plot. I guess my fault as a european playing on a US server. I solo quite lot really though like grouping if the opportunity presents itself.

I see people talking about improved performance. Is there still hard drive hitching?

Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!

The only thing can say it's the 1st time since release I can put all settings to high + /setfog 999999 and this game is really impressive. Really.

If you' re looking now (immediatly) for a perfect polished game take EQ2 or Lotro and wait for GU6 + trial.

IMO VG needs one more big patche (GU6) and a trial and VG is ready for relaunch. It took time but release was catastrophic...

I can say SOE did a great job on it: unplayable for a long time, boring to play > GU4 and playable now since GU5 but VG always need more improvements.

I have a free subs (2 months) on EQ2 (offered by SOE 1 week ago), I play only VG.

     My projects for 2009

    - Vanguard for PVE

    - Warhammer Online for PVP RvR (as I'm a pvp player . aoc failed imo. )

With a cheap videocard (ATI 1650) : medium/balanced etc (took 10 min for VG.Ini) I have now 27/30 FPS sometimes 37/40. When I put all settings to high (all settings to max !) with this card (payed 30€ ?) I have 17 FPS. I need a new video card: not only for VG but for all games ( GothicIII , Crysis, War etc) And i'm sure i'll play VG with high settings with 40+ fps. (or more)

I'm going to buy a 2nd HD : put VG on the 2nd HD , take a better video card and it will be great. (and ready for new videogames)

When you put all settings to the max + type setfog etc, you discover the potential of VG: it kills everything. Everything.

A lot of new people will storm this game when the new character models will be introduced in the next large Game Update, and the Trial Island will become available.

To me it's the best PvE MMORPG on the market. My main complain about it are the rather ugly character models, which will be fixed in a little time.

The game already has SO much to offer, and it will only be getting better.

Cloaks move a little while running, but not as much like the jacket of Max Payne.

Combat speed can be set to 120%. And there are some spells that make it a little faster.

AA will not be introduced anytime soon. Ofcourse they will be sooner or later, but not within a few months from now. This was discussed during the interview with Silius (one of the developers) a few weeks ago.

I haven't seen any floating heads in quite some playtime on different continents.

Character customization will be re-introduced during the next Game Update (number 6). All character models are currently being completely remodelled.

No cities have been rebuild since Khal. However, there are plans to do this to other parts of the game.
