So much about the ranting how PvP is worthless in AoC. But people will find a way to bitch about the system because it doesnt agree with them.

Of course you can always try the IGN review or the upcoming Eurogamer review, ot the GamePro review. And instead of attacking people on a personal basis, just look at whatt these reviewers say. You can't argue on facts with these reviews so put a Wow banner on them is no solution. In fact all reviews published after the 3 week launch tell about the same story. Yes. the lag in the cities is directly related to the number of player data your client needs to load from your hard disks and into your video Ram. And no you won't get more than 40 players in one instance of Tortage.
If we're digging into the worst:

1) How are warring guilds suppose to conduct war on another guild without its members going red? KOS means any member of the opposing guild for reason. Is there something in place to accomadate warring guilds?
2) What about calloteral killings. What if a low player gets caught up in a fight between higher level players. I saw a mess load of level 30's whiped, by level 60's+, near the Ymir's in Conall Valley recently simply because they were in the wrong place at the wrong time. In the confusion of the battle the two guilds warring ended up killing the level 30's. Does that mean all those players that killed the level 30's are griefers and should be flagged red?
3) Will "not tradeble" items be droppable now? If they are will Funcom implement better dropped loot to allow a player to gain a new decent weapon?
4) How will Funcom handle my scenerio of a PoM going to KP with no money and items in their possesion and ganking anyone and everyone? Even if the PoM is killed they'll drop nothing. Where is the punihsment and consequences now?

listen. the main thing this system will do is catagorise people. say i'm lvl 40 and strolling around questing whatever, I might see a lvl 50 attacking about to finish his mob. normally I wouldn't know wether he would attack me or not. in fact I would probably attack him first in self defense. with this system is means you can identify someone who is likely to gank you. while it might not give you any direct help, it WILL help. people who gank lowbies will be red, if you see a red you can either punish them or run. the rest of the time you can just chill with blues. it creates a us vs them mentality. I heard someone say in UO there used to be great blue vs red wars. it also means the lvl 80 anti griefer people can track down greifers more easily and punish them, hunt them down. the system may not police the world directly (that sould suck), but it helps the community police its self. and I'm sure a lvl 80 blue can kill any level red without any consequences, so that griefer may not care about loosing the occassional item, but he WILL care about getting hunted down by level 80s.
hoepfully there'll be enough reds that each red and blue becomes like its own faction. instead of choosing wether you want to be good or evil faction ala wow, you choose evil by your actions. now can you understand why this system could be awesome? its really not to do with the item drops at all.

1. As far as I get it you declare war on another guild. The exact consequences of that is unsure yet, maybe youll be treated as red to eachother if you are at war but you will not get fugitive by killing anyone you are at war with.
2. Well, lifes tough but youre not getting fugitive for killing one person anyways. If you do a lot of collatoral you should maybe think a litlle.
3. My blue 2 hander is a dropp and better than any quest item I got. And the crafting is suppose to shape up also...
4. Your POM will be red and naked, noobs will see you a long way and be able to run... And you will get killed a lot by other 80s, the gear does do a lot (or at least will, some stuff is still bugged).
no thanks. full looting is worse. full looting will just mean even MORE ganking. and MORE griefing/spawn camping. this is a perfect system in my opinion. taken from UO I do believe.
all this system does is discourage killing lower level players (ganking) and encourage killing gankers. its totally fair. if you go aoc forums you can see all the gankers QQing, its hilarious. but the system even appeals to the hardcore gankers. because ganking becomes a challenge, having tons of people hunting you, being a criminal is what some people love. I might make one character who is a criminal it will be fun seeing how well I can survive when everyone is hunting me down.
No offense but I question your background. If you didnt play UO then where did you get exposure to full looting? That system they proposing is nothing like UO/EVE. If you played a full looting game at all then you would know this has nothing in common with 'daddy'
It's more akin to Lineage 2 whereas griefers drop loot
I'm not going to criticize it because Ive only seen such Karma systems implemented in Asian MMOs (L2, Rappelz, etc). Will be interesting to see how it turns out
This really doesn't give PVP a point per se. I was waiting for the Siege PVP or a form of risk/reward for Guild vs Guild PVP. Doesn't seem like PVP will have a point to it still. But I can only guess from my exposure to Asian MMO Karma systems
edit- to be clear I dont even consider myself expert on Karma pvp systems either. I'm more used to EVE's harsh consequences in which is applicable straight across the board to all players regardless of security status

I'm not sure what to make of that review it sort of felt heavily biased. On one hand it was quite indepth but it felt like it was heavily biased from the viewpoint of a WoW player or something. Can't put my finger on it but it didn't feel like a review one could really take into serious consideration.
Note this is opinion of someone fairly unbiased on AoC I'm debating on buying it. So take from post what you will

What do they use hidden iframes for, is that what people call cookie stuffing or should I be even more worried? It's been a long time since I had any experience with html, so someone enlighten me.
I think the system will probably be a very good addition because it will:
1. Discourage high levels from ganking lowbies. Why would an 80 want a level 20's loot? The cost of killing a lowbie is not nearly as good as the reward.
2. About the collateral killings. If anything i hope they keep that in for a touch of realism. "I'm sorry officer, I didn't mean to shoot that guy, I was aiming at someone else." He still died! You should get punished, or at least make sure to never do it again so your name doesn't turn red.
Of course this is all assuming it's implemented well and not broken like many things seem to be.

I'll answer you, even though the answers and solutions are really quite obvious.
1. you go red from killing lower level players. so unless some lvl 80 guild is going down on a lvl 60 guild then yes they might go red, but all they have to do is bank thier l33t gear, hardly a set back but will help even the odds don't you think? on a side note you can bet theres none of the fugitive system inside sieges and instanced pvp.
for 1 & 3) personally i'm surprised you have played on a loot ruleset before. in most loot games people don't go pvp in thier purples, and this creates a higher demand for player crafted items which is GREAT for the ecconomy. besides one minute people complain its not full loot the next its: but i'll drop my phat loot, waa waa. well then don't grief in you nice gear! non tradeble items in my experience are still lost on death, but the other player can't pick them up. otherwise you would see griefers in full nontrable gear without losing anything on death, thats an obvious fix for FC. seriously they're not completely imcompetant.
2. a simple mechanism to allow players to choose wether they attack greys or not. a toggle to either never doing damage to greys even when they are in your aoe etc (unless they attack you in which case they are fair game!), or a toggle to always attack greys automatically for when you want to be red or get some revenge. or simularly a system where you hold alt and then attack to attack greys, these are not new ideas. I think its safe to assume FC will work this out, if not straight away, its not hard. so unless that group of 60's wanted to kill those 30's and wanted to go red they would never have to!
4. punishment? its hardly a punishment in the first place. its a deterant. that PoM would be killed repetivly by bounty hunters. plus how can you COMPLAIN. in this scenario the current system is much worse. at the moment that PoM could go do that with all his l33t gear on. at least if the PoM has no gear it makes life harder for him, and gives the low levels are decent chance vs him. once armour is fixed, I bet a group of low levels with decent gear could kill a lvl 80 pom with no gear. the punishment is the handicap of not having any armour.
at the end of the day if you'd read my post the system is not a law enforcer its a tool for people to enforce the law. its a way of tracking down and recognising gankers and its core, which is more iuseful tbh.
So griefers will now be able to loot those they grief?
you seem to have it backwards, the pk's are lootable, not the normal pvp'ers
killing a few lower levels, spawn camping someone, or just plain random attacking other blue pvp people on im guessing a regular basis, will eventually earn you the red status, once YOU have the red status it is YOUR items that drop, not the blue guy. Pk's can keep chasing blues all they want lol, but theres no loot reward for being a pk. Only for hunting the pk.
Granted I loved it when looting was 100% open, and if it's in your bag, it drops (including money, go UO!) but the fact a 3d pay-to-play game of the general 3d mmo build, has Some type of player looting and pk-title system, so im sure rocking the pvp servers will be atleast somewhat more entertaining and slightly more balanced

Power and money, money and power mean nothing. Good always triumphs over evil. Love, True Love Never Dies." Which Final Fantasy Character Are You?

I already said in this thread that it was UO players saying it was like UO. and that I have not played it. thats why I said in this quote "I do belive".
in OP I give away my looting background. runescape. it had a great loot system. if you are a pker you drop everything on death. if you have no attacked any other players recently you drop all but 3 most valuable items, even in PvE!
I think there should be some sort of reward for even greifers when they kill someone their level or higher... and the reward should scale for how many people they are killing someone else with... reward decreases the more people they gank with. With their new system patched in there is a risk for open PvP... but there's not much point without a reward.
I first made a PvP character... then seeing how incredibly lame the current system is I've been playing on a PvE server... I'll pickup my PvP char again once they get a solid system in place.

Name a karma system like this that didn't have holes and wasn't abused.
Believe it or not, I have just now gotten around to reading and researching this in-depth. This has got to be one of the worst ideas to ever be implemented in a multi-player game, ever. The very least anybody can say is that this turns the PvP ruleset onto its head. What about all those people who rolled on PvP servers and established themselves and their character, just what are they supposed to do? That server is something else entirely now.
Just for the record, I started on a PvE and went to a PvP server. I freaking hate griefing and griefers, but damn, come on.

4) How will Funcom handle my scenerio of a PoM going to KP with no money and items in their possesion and ganking anyone and everyone? Even if the PoM is killed they'll drop nothing. Where is the punihsment and consequences now?
yougamers stinks, piece of crap site. and im not saying that cause they gave aoc a low rating, good for them... the site contains a invisible iframe launcher and the staff isnt professional at all. IGN is better, and they even didnt give that high a rating

@ teala and like minded.
listen. the main thing this system will do is catagorise people. say i'm lvl 40 and strolling around questing whatever, I might see a lvl 50 attacking about to finish his mob. normally I wouldn't know wether he would attack me or not. in fact I would probably attack him first in self defense. with this system is means you can identify someone who is likely to gank you. while it might not give you any direct help, it WILL help. people who gank lowbies will be red, if you see a red you can either punish them or run. the rest of the time you can just chill with blues. it creates a us vs them mentality.

How about addressing all the concerns and not just one.
Consequences is one thing. A screwed up lame PvP penalty system being implemented is another whole different animal.

Sounds good to me so far.

4. punishment? its hardly a punishment in the first place. its a deterant. that PoM would be killed repetivly by bounty hunters. plus how can you COMPLAIN. in this scenario the current system is much worse. at the moment that PoM could go do that with all his l33t gear on. at least if the PoM has no gear it makes life harder for him, and gives the low levels are decent chance vs him. once armour is fixed, I bet a group of low levels with decent gear could kill a lvl 80 pom with no gear. the punishment is the handicap of not having any armour.
at the end of the day if you'd read my post the system is not a law enforcer its a tool for people to enforce the law. its a way of tracking down and recognising gankers and its core, which is more iuseful tbh.

you seem to have it backwards, the pk's are lootable, not the normal pvp'ers
killing a few lower levels, spawn camping someone, or just plain random attacking other blue pvp people on im guessing a regular basis, will eventually earn you the red status, once YOU have the red status it is YOUR items that drop, not the blue guy.

I look forward to abusing the hell out of this system.
Me too! LOL just because it is a lame system. It is a joke and was not thought through thoroughly enough. Read my post here.

Exactly. It's been a long time since I've had the joys of noto-pking. I look forward to being given the opportunity to do it again.

Er.... but then we would have to assume the system will be gaps that can be abused. I have doubts.
I think its a great start. Last evening in 3 hours of play my level 27-30 Assassin was attacked 4 times, by a 2 level 80's, one level 76 and a level 40. I evaded one, died zoning into a new area on another and 2 were virtual one shot deaths.
All of these folks are cowardly fools and this new system will "reward" them for their actions.
Note, not one time did anyone near my level even attempt to kill me... guess they were too busy working on their quests.
Maybe Funcom just needs to find something for level 80 characters to do?
Name a karma system like this that didn't have holes and wasn't abused.
Believe it or not, I have just now gotten around to reading and researching this in-depth. This has got to be one of the worst ideas to ever be implemented in a multi-player game, ever. The very least anybody can say is that this turns the PvP ruleset onto its head. What about all those people who rolled on PvP servers and established themselves and their character, just what are they supposed to do? That server is something else entirely now.
Just for the record, I started on a PvE and went to a PvP server. I freaking hate griefing and griefers, but damn, come on.
