Currently, this game will not release in english even they did some coverage during the 2006 E3.
As they promised it should come over after chinese server is settle, the chinese version was settle (but changed new license recently after going live).
Its our TURN!
Koei is a very asian based company, their games have almost no chances coming to Us beside dynasty warrior. And we all hate dynasty warrior (so STOP releasing it!, even through i play the online in japan server)
Uncharted waters online is a great game (MMORPG+SLG), it offers everything pirate of the carribean, burning sea, and voyage century offers + more. (if you don't believe me, state what you seek in a MMORPG, i will tell you directly what it offer you, since the list to outline the game is way too long)
Not only you can be pirates, PVP and steal other people loots, but also affect the world! by invest in ports to uncover new techologies and claim it for your nations, also have a guild house with guild banks and guild specials, You also have 6 different nation stories line that goes with full details and promise 50 hours of story.
Explore the world with real world facts, and travel the world and circle it! With a player made economy, player can be a merchant, marine (you can beat up Player pirates for bounty as well), or even explorer that venture into the wild like indiana jone. Meanwhile, you can change from any disicpline to another without much penalty and able to level every one at the same time.
Everything you does affect the world! you can change the power in type of ports you nation own by support the ports in middle america and turn into a military base or even a explorer hideout. Investment in ports to flip it to your nation or increase techology level to new trade items and ships.
There is also the great "sea battle" with 100 of players fighting on sea for ports without limit (its actually more like 10 vs 10 at a time but you can see 100-1000 ships sailling around)
Anyway dig up the information yourself with searching "GVO" or "uncharted waters online" on google.

im willing to work on a English community for this game. If enough people show interest we can set up a registration guide as well as full translations for all the in game text.
It's very unlikely KOEI will bring any of their MMO titles to the West.
As of present KOEI is set to launch both Dynasty Warriors OL as well as Roamnce of Three Kingdoms OL. Both games are an extension of their highly successive single player titles.
Its rather unfortunate that all of KOEI existing and upcoming MMO titles will not be coming to the West as KOEI seems to be one of only a handful of game developers that knows how to make great MMORPGs.
Since KOEI is a small company ran by a married couple they probably don't have the resources for large oversea operations needed to run an MMO in the western market. But who knows they might find a partner/publisher here if there's enough noise/interested generated. While Uncharted Waters is a very fun middle age exploration/sea trading simulation I'm not sure about it's viability to becoming an MMO.
I am playing the game right now in chinese on taiwan server. ITs pretty MMO title because of 3 factor. exploring in teams, sea battle in groups and trading among each others. If it can't be MMO i am sure Eve or POTBS should not be either. (while i personnally found potbs is too basic and doesn't even brother to offer anything good)
koei a small company? Koei's capital is 9,090 Million yen is roughly 90 million USD (http://www.koei.co.jp/english/html/introduction/index.html) while the game is translated in 3 other languages while NOT english, the game is also selling base on franchising. They don't need capital to get the game off but simply just look for a business partner. (its one reason i want the petition grow), this isn't about showing "10000 players want to play this game list" to koei, this is about "showing 10000 players want to play this game" to the US/EU potential license buyer
I personnally don't want to say this but seriously, there just aren't too many US/EU company working to license foreign MMORPG, or rather their focus is all "korean grinder". The reason is US/EU company just doesn't want to risk. They rather get games like RF online over here (of course codemaster fail at it) instead of trying new genre and potbs's failure will of course be another "blockage" to this game's entry. Hence i am supporting this petition 100%.
This is the crumble of differences in MMORPG if this keep going on, it will be 100% hack and slashes because no company dare to try new genre for MMO, and this is why you must support me so the US market get a "succesful game" to creat a successful example to US/EU.
The game still run on 4 servers with an average active online during prime time 5000-6000+ players on each server in japan. Approx 2000-4000 on each taiwan server (2) and there is 6 server in china (the last company seem disappear) I can't tell you how many play on korea.
These are just rough estimated of the population from what i see (consider seeing alot ships running around) I am sure there are alot subscriber as well.
I do remember during beta of the first chinese company, they annonuced they reached over 1 million beta tester during the beta event.
Heck, this is even more player then the crappy dynasty warrior musou online. Man seriously, i am playing musou online right now (since i can read japanese..not playing blindly), the game doesn't even have 1000 during prime time even for a "Free game". (i can tell because it show how many battles occur and players tend to go to populated battles arena)
Talk about people liking the dynasty warrior...So let's break the cycle together, we need your help, you are the one belonging to the world and you can be the one changing to the world and this industry.
however i also suspect koei just want to run the game under their nose because the other version never did even come to US. Considered that only one title came (IV was great game).
Koei not releasing this game to US might also be some kind of discrimination as well....since their actions always direct me to believe they really hate english players. Example: "our problem inquiry is only for JAPANESE players"

--------------------------------------
This game is one of the best in the world. Graphics aren't great but the game was made in 1994 -
There has been sequels in Japanese, Chinese and Korean... and in 2005 a group of people were working on translating the game. What happend? Does anyone know on the status of the project?
-------------------------------------
I was wondering if it's possible to edit the rom or PC game and change it your self? If had a team, we could recreate this game to make it x5 better.
It would be interesting to see a Romance of the Three Kingdoms Online, or Nobunaga's Ambition Online style game. If done right, I would be down to go dominate a few people while my MMO is down for maintenance.
*sigh*
This might be the last for North Americans to play New Horizons.
Those stupid anime grinders are all the same. Just play one of the other 50 million of them.
-------------------------
I have wanted KOEI's Uncharted Waters Online (Great Voyage Online) to come to the NA market for a long time now... So I support this effort...
(There was a whole thread on bringing UWO/GVO to the NA market on the official KOEI NA site, I checked there once in a while...)
As for RoTK and Nobunaga's Ambition Online version, I know the RoTK online and Dynasty Warrior Online are both being pushed through the Asian market (I check on a Taiwanese gaming website for that info)... And Nobunaga's Ambition Online is already out for a while now, and from what I heard, it's pretty good...
Too bad I don't have anyone who can pay for the account back in Taiwan, or I would be playing UWO/GVO now...
Current MMO: FFXIV:ARR
Past MMO: Way too many (P2P and F2P)
You'd have to take close mindness to a whole new level to assume that a game based on naval warfare and politics is the same as anime grinders.
Me and my entire family used to play Uncharted Waters and Uncharted Waters; New Horizons on the Sega and Snes. We got shit tons of hours on those games.
I'd probably be sorely dissapointed in this game though, I'll/I'd check it out none the less.
