Will WAR force you to play on your closest server?

Does anyone know if this is the case or can you pick any server? A few of my friends didn't play AoC because they hated the idea of buying the game and being forced to play in a certain location. If you play MMO's enough you end up playing with people from all locations, so I will seriously reconsider playing WAR if I am forced to play in the EU only.

If your in the US with a US copy you can play on any US server you want too...they're all Located on the East Coast MAE (unless they change their mind). Before you go omg the ping! Go read up on what a MAE is...its basically cutting the travel time of the data in half. MAE's are awsome more games should use them instead ISP's.
If your in the US and buy a EU copy you have to use the EU servers in Europe.
If your in Europe with a US copy you use the US servers
If your in Europe with an EU copy you use the EU servers
If you buy the AU copy you can use US or the AU servers.
They made the deal with GOA before merging with EA so unfortantely EU gets the shaft .. if you really want to play in the US and be on when so few people are on then buy the US copy there's nothing stopping you.
Its unfortunate but Mythic WAS a small company they couldn't afford to open an office in Europe to run their own servers so they (like with DAoC) made a deal with GOA who will host & run the servers & websites in relation to European Territories. You'll be hard pressed to find to many MMOs that let EU and US players play together easily anymore.

Can a US copy play on AU servers though?
as far as I know yes ... US players have access to the Oceanic servers. I'd have to check WarhammerAlliance.com again but I'm more than sure that they said yes to that. I'mg uessing EA Is hosting & running the Oceanic servers in Aussie..the aussies seemed extremely happy.

Thanks Elven, its pretty funny since I believe AoC has the same system and a bunch of my friends moaned about how they are not playing it because they would have to order copies from overseas. Going to cause issues for me as well since everyone I know are based in the US and Australia. Kinda sucks since I end up soloing most of the time as EU tends to be on at US down times. Problem with this setup is that you can not swap servers. On Vanguard I had 2 characters, 1 on the US and 1 on the EU server so I could at least swap when the US slept.....tough call now...
When will they realise that EU players actually do mix with other nations!!! :P
If you want to play with your US & AU fans buy a copy from AU they just went on sale there.
It really has nothing to do with not realizing that players want to mix. It has to do with International Laws in EU in order to Operate there they would have to of built an office and hire more employees. At the time when they made the deal with GOA they were a small independant company so funds weren't available to do that (its really expensive ya know! especially with how lame the dollar is right now). If EA had been in the picture we'd all be playing together.

Fair point but it does come down to peak times vs down times. I tend to play from 8am - 1pm on Saturdays and Sundays mostly and the US is pretty much offline then. If Aus are on the same servers then its not so bad...
I don't understand, do you want to play on the US/AU servers? but worrie about down times of players? just play on your EU servers then...though i can understand wanting all servers to be open to all players, still i like it this way as it'll help with the deta flow for ppl with less then stellar internet connections to have a more enjoyable time with less lag.

Correct. Unfortunately as an expat I have lived in London now for 10 years but all my gaming mates are in the states or Aus. However my usual playing style would be to play on an EU server when US/Aus was offline (mostly during the week) but then swap over to the US/USA servers on the weekend. With AoC and WAR you need to buy 2 different box sets. EVE is perfect since everyone is lumped into one world.
I am probably going to grab the EU version because quite frankly its depressing wandering about when the population is so low and more importantly you miss out on all the guild battles since I am in bed at those times. Pretty hard to get up at 4am to go raiding.
Time may change it. before EA purchased Mythic GOA signed a deal to host/manage WAR in Europe. Just like they signed with DAoC.
EA purchased Mythic after this and so far is planning to uphold the agreement.
What may end up happening, is if GOA does some stuff the EA doesn't like is EA will buy back the European rights, which at that time they will most likely open EU players/server up.
I still dont understand why cant mythic have a deal with GOA to handle EU servers and distribution and still allow for EU game copies to be playable on the US servers handled by mythic and vice-versa...
I am one of the odd ppl who play at 4am while living in Europe, EU servers are deserted at that time, no grouping no ppl, boring..
Any idea where the EU servers will be located? I really hope not France...
