Who says all WoW players are kids?

ZindaihasZindaihas Member UncommonPosts: 3,662

This guy's no kid, he's now 76 years old and is considered hardcore.  Well maybe he is still a kid at heart.  I sure hope so, because at his age, his heart could go at any time.

In a related link, check out this guy's monitor set-up:

To get smooth gameplay, he says it requires at least an 8800 card and SLI.

Most of the people I know that play WoW are over 30. The oldest person I've raided with was in his 60s.

However, my son plays WoW, and all his friends do too. I've heard kids working at the grocery store talking about WoW last month.

You can't draw any conclusions as to age, but based on trade chat, there are more kids than adults playing.

Blizzard's internal data for this stuff paints the average WoW player as 26, last I checked, with the population heavily centered around the core gamer segment of 18-34.  That's the average player age, not the average subscriber age.

Most MMO's have a very similar average age to WoW, but WoW sees a lot more spread.  So yeah, there are a lot of kids and a lot of older folks.

It's definitely not mostly kids, though.  Kids just tend to be visible and annoying.  Plus it's a nice talking point for those who want to hate on WoW.

Aye, the kids do act out a lot in games (WoW isnt the only game they play) and are easily noticed.

But I would have to say a lot of times its those who are mentally still kids. Like the 32 year old raid leader who would throw a hissy fit if a raid wiped.

Whats funny though is a majority of the people hating on WoW and using the 'too many kiddies' line are the ones who were right there with the kiddies acting out in chat with the Chuck Norris jokes and annoying other for the fun of it.

See, ours never did that. He would just start calling the raid group 'retards' and start screaming and talking down to everyone.

He threw this huge and I mean HUGE fit when raiding MC. We wiped on Rag because 3 people lost connection mid fight. He waited till they got back on and chewed everyone out. He basically stated that if we wiped again he was going to give up raiding and leave the guild (which our GL kept trying to talk him out of).

So after his 15 minute rant about how stupid we were and the possibility of him leave should another wipe happen, he ordered everyone to buff up. While buffing was going on, someone made a comment about having to log out soon. He treated the guy like a 5 yearold. By then I had had it with him, targeted a pet that lay dead near Rag and rezzed it, just as the raid leader (a warrior) was getting in position behind Rag. The pet attacked Rag, he killed it and went after our raid leader who died in 1 hit.

Everyone died soon after and all we heard over vent was our raid leader screaming something about us being useless (there was that hint of a quiver in his voice) so people pointed out he was the only one near Rag and caused the aggro. He logged off, we decided to give it one more go and took Rag down.

Soon after he left the guild, created his own raid guild, which failed, and ended up bouncing from guild to guild. Our raids went a lot smoother and if we wiped we would laugh about it.

Obviously adults play WoW, but I would say anyone who thinks WoW is a good MMOG is unsophisticated.

lol, that was bad. I just remembered an old youtube clip of a leader discussing an onyxia raid and listing what to do and what the penalty was if instructions weren't followed. It was hilarious.

Yeah, I play games to have fun and hate when people treat it like its life or death moment. Once they start getting all  drill sergeant like and treating people like crap because some mob that has some gear needs to be brought down or the world will end.... yeah, the fun is gone. Thats when my brain switches to prank/pissoff mode.

People who take a game too seriously to the point of having an aneurism should really just get up and walk away from the machine and re evaluate life a bit.

I couldn't agree more. It IS a game after all, and should be treated as such. I doubt anyone enjoys being yelled at for not being what 'they' expect you to be. Or maybe it's a fetish that some do  enjoy?!

It's a good game to some.  You might not like it, but it's definitely good to many people.  And no, there's no objective criteria which defines good and bad.  The only things which are universally bad are things like technical problems which make a game unplayable or unfulfilled promises.  WoW does what it aims to do and does it well, even if you think it's shit.

Couldn't have dreamed of saying any better than that. I know alot of people in their mid 20's to mid 30's that play WoW (along with their kids), but everyone who wants to bash WoW always go to that same old line that "WoW is for kids" and somehow their MMO or game is exclusively all adults. The irony is that in making that statement they show their own immaturity (but I suppose we all have to let our inner kids out every once and awhile for fresh air).

    Cheers!

Obviously many different people play WoW. The reason we dog it's age group is because it has THE MOST IMMATURE COMMUNITY of any P2P MMORPG. It's disgusting to see the forum or general chat for that matter.

Congratulations on posting something so ridiculous.  I've seen some pretty stupid and ignorant comments in the years I've been on these forums.  This one takes the cake though.

    In Death - Sacrifice.

I'd disagree there.  The forums and general chat (even in the worst areas) aren't really that bad.  The forums are filled with annoying whining, but MMORPG.com is even worse in that regard.  No, if you want to see the true nonsense on WoW, that would be the trade channel.  Since it's the only channel shared among all the major cities, it has become the de facto spam channel.

I don't think the community as a whole is immature, though.  It's just that you can't avoid the vocal minority in WoW.  Somebody is always around to say something retarded.

Overall, I'd say every MMORPG population has their immature segment, though perhaps they take different forms.  There are a ton of twenty-somethings who take their raiding or PvP way too seriously in the hardcore MMORPG's.  Are they immature?  Most definitely.  Do they readily come across as immature?  Nah.  It's only when you push such players that they show their true colors.

Add to the fact that the vocal majority that spew inane banter are mainly from the immature segment, whereas the more mature players tend to play more and babble less.

WoW has a horrible forum community and the general chat trolls are just as bad.

It has TONS of kiddies, and TONS of noobs who generally haven't played any other MMOs. That's the target audience, that's what they got. That's why its a success. People who have never played another game don't realize WoW is screwing them and taking all challenge out of the game.

    Hello everyone,

Yes I have played WOW since day one and I am still playing.  I am also now 40 years old.  Games are not just for kids.

    I agree,

because WoW/TBC is not just a good MMORPG, it is by far most sophisticated MMORPG ever designed.

It is the ONLY MMORPG where YOU decide how YOU play its end game since patch 2.3 ...

and that's why the children and dungeon dwellers whiners left it to the people that want to have fun in playing WOW the way THEY want it.

Not even one other MMO comes close at the moment (and please do NOT mention >the EVE spreadsheets). I'd rather look at grass grow in my garden.

Are you serious? The only game where you decide how you want to play it? I'm pretty sure most GOOD MMOs are that way, or at least they used to be before WoW's linear path made so much money that sandboxes are dead.

WoW pretty much invented the LINEAR and DUMBED DOWN MMO. There exist many games where you can do what you want, but I guess you just don't want to look at them. EVE is one. WoW is not.
