After 80+ hours played in AoC I have experience one memory crash, a few graphics glitces and I got stuck in the scenery once, which required a relog. So not everyone are experiencing a lot of bugs.
Ever since release my client never crashed even once and I never got stuck in scenery. I did get a few disconnects but that might just be my router or ISP. However I experience bugs all the time! I get stuck in combat, I have non working feats, non working skills and non working stats for god's sake!
Did you invest more than 1 point in Combat Casting? You just experienced a bug.
I can stay here for hours listing bugs, big or small. I play the game, I hate the GW-like instancing, I like the core gameplay even though it's mostly broken but I am sticking around because as you said, THERE IS NO ALTERNATIVE.
But to claim you do not experience bugs just makes you look like an ingnorant fanboi or worse.
As I said, not everyone are experiencing a lot of bugs. This is not the same as denying that there are a lot of bugs in the game, they just do not affect my experience of the game much.
I can play the game at a challenging level, getting rewarded for a fight well played and punished for fights where I do not pay enough attention. Which, in my opinion, makes AoC a fun game to play in a FFA pvp environment.
I cancelled yesterday. I thought about maybe going another month, but I realized that I like pve content, and AoC's pve content just can't compete with wow. Had the entire game been as polished as tortage, it might have had a shot.
AoC did some things well, and I wish it success. but I doubt I'll ever resubscribe. Maybe aion will be more my thing, but with its pvp focus I'll probably end up doing wotlk.
I think AoC is a good game that's woefully unfinished and unpolished. The roughness around the edges makes it easy to attack, but at the end of the day I did enjoy leveling my priest. But I don't really want to deal with the bugginess, the grinding, and lack of content. It's summertime and I don't need anymore excuses to be in front of my computer instead of outside.
I think most people will be able to get 50 dollars worth of enjoyment out of AoC. In one month you can get quite a lot of entertainment, but imo aoc doesn't succeed as a monthly subscription game, at least not yet.
Originally posted by Thillian If you want to get rid of the kiddies in your MMORPG you should stop playing games for kiddies. But if you enjoy the same games as kiddies do, then you will be always doomed to play with them.
What games would you suggest, that are not for "kiddies"?

Funny you should say that. It has the most mature fanbase out of all MMOs curently out (with the exception of EVE).
This is my opinion. I see no better alternative at the moment, AoC is the game I keep logging back into. I have never been a Conan fan, but I must say I do like the way the game is laid out, how the combat works and the FFA pvp. I wanted LOTRO to be the game for me, as I am a Tolkien fan and have read a lot of his books, but the gameplay and feel about that game did not appeal to me. WOW is a really good game, but I just don't feel like logging in anymore even though I have an active subscription. Maybe I just played it too much. EVE was once my all time favorite game. But it became a struggle to play in my fragmented amount of time available. After 80+ hours played in AoC I have experience one memory crash, a few graphics glitces and I got stuck in the scenery once, which required a relog. So not everyone are experiencing a lot of bugs. For me AoC is the better game at the moment.
I see it the same way like you.. actually what most ppl posted about the game here .. especially the negative comments turned out to be complete bullshit when it comes to bugs and questing. The instancing is required atm just because its soo busy on the servers and with colision detection it would be a HUGE mess if everyone would be in the same instance. Over time when the folks are more spreaded out over the world i am sure there will be less instancing but honestly speaking .. it doesnt hurt my game expierence at all with instancing... when i group with my friends and we all zone one time the whole group gets synchronised and gets into the same instance. Never had problems with this...
i tryed aoc not a bad game but funcom lack of support and program bug just got to point where i couldnt play that much. so back to daoc till war. best of luck.
most negative comments seem to be either those who skip the content (and complain of lack of content) or those who have technical issues.
Not so. It is more those that have completed the content and find there is absolutely nothing else at all. You do not have to be hardcore to complete every quest in the game see every sight run from one end to the other of every zone (time and time again) etc. I'm pretty casual and have not played for a week and have an 80 a couple of 60s 30's etc.
The game is great (well pretty good) until you finish it.
