Okay well this is by no means a review and its as always with every post on here i feel an "opinion" its not  meant to be right or wrong but its just some things ive noticed about the game. Okay ill start off with character creation, it seemed like as far as physical appearance of your character it wasnt SUPER detailed but it was pretty well rounded you can go into advanced and edit your characters facial features similar to EQ 2 and a few other games, so that i liked. Once you create your character, (you start out as a slave on a slaveship which sinks, and youre left on the training island) So far it seem like the combat is fluid and fun, i still dont understand all of it like the shields around people youre fightning but from what i understand those are basically where theyre blocking and you just have to point at a different  preferably unshielded direction to do full damage. I was pleasantly surprised that the game runs on my rig as well as it did, i have an older comp now its amd 64 dual core 4200+ and a nvidia 7600GS AGP vid card 2 gigs of ram. I plan to upgrade soon but its nice to know i can at least run this on low detail until then and enjoy the game. I dont know if past the starter isle all the NPCs have voice acting but so far all the ones ive spoken with do and thats a nice touch, it makes it easier to follow along with the story. Its alot easier to get the inflection in the characters voices and pickup on subtle moods etc which to me helps to promote character detail and depth. When you swim you cant go below the water, or at least the few seconds i did swim it was sort of like swimming in tabula rasa where its just above the water, i may be wrong about that but as far as i know its only above the surface of the water. I kinda always hate when a game does that because it seems to eliminate the possibility of underwater cities etc. I think alot of games overlook the possibility of that kindve thing. I havent spoken to a single person since ive been playing, i tryed to wave at a person using an emote but dont really know any of them yet and when i put in /wave it said un recognized command so i need to learn those. All in all im pretty pleased with the starter island so far, and it may not be the ultimate game ive been waiting for its a pretty decent bit of fun and something ill be coming back to for quite a while until i can find something else that holds my interest. Id quit playing MMORPGs for the past like six months i guess after tabula rasa didnt really hold me like i thought it would so i got bored and have just been playing an online shooter Enemy Territory Quakewars, excelent game btw if you like shooters feel free to join me, my name on there is shinjorai. Anyways just a few initial thoughts on AOC. There was one glitch i ran into and it may not be a real glitch might just be something they overlooked. I jumped in the lava on starter island to see if it had any kindve special effect and nothing really happened except it said you have been incinerated then after a pause i died lol, thought that was kinda lame but it may have been from lag or any number or reasons or because i got it on lowest detail. Once again thought very pleased the game runs so good even albeit in low detail i get good FPS it seems, havent checked the amount of FPS yet but it seems very playable and i dont notice any video lag so far. I really siincerely hope i dont get a buncha lag or something once i leave the starter isle because so far i like the game and it seems very detailed and fun like a mmorpg should be. Hope this helps anybody looking for a brief overview of the game, first impression wise. Keep in mind I have not played the game past the starter area, ill probably review it some more later on as i get to know the game better so anybody interested can get a more in depth review.

*Wall Of Text Hits YOU for 28906 points of damage*

    *You have died*

Its a good post (content wise) just break it up a bit and people will have an easier time reading it. :)

There are 3 types of people in the world.
1.) Those who make things happen
2.) Those who watch things happen
3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"

You still have long sentences, try breaking them up with some punctuation.

If it's just a big wall of text with long sentences, less people will actually bother to read what you put some time into writing.

    Hi there

well I picked up AoC over the weekend and like the OP my experience of the game so far has been pretty good.

Like the OP my set up is hardly cutting edge (AMD Dual Core 4200, Nvidia 7800, 2 gig ram). AoC did take an age to install and patch and then I had to update the Nvidia driver but I'd half expected that.

Performance wise I've not had any issues (so far)

Character creation is quite nicely done. Each the the 3 races has a fairly distinct look, and there are plenty of tweaks that can be made to personalise the avatar. The only drawback is a fairly strict limit on the careers available to each race. From a lore point of view this makes sense though.

The starting solo area is straight forward giving a basic tutorial. I played through it with 2 different characters - a Stygina Necromancer and Stygian Demonologist - and enjoyed it both times. Unfortunately for the Altaholic you always have to go through this basic zone which could get a bit repetitive.

Combat and spell casting felt pretty fresh. Setting people on fire as my Demonologit was suitably gruesome. It sounded like those flames really hurt!

It's still early days and both characters are now questing in Tortage. I'm on the RP-PVE server and have been a little disappointed (though not surprised) by the chat. The various channels are full of the usual bull. Hopefully this will improve further down the line.

Quests have been pretty good fun. Though they are the normal fetch and carry / collect / deliver / kill type quests they are dressed up enough to make them fun and fit in well with the Lore.

    cheers for now

    Chubchub

Glad your enjoying it friend i have a 48 Ranger and am having a great time.

I have not learnt how to use emotes yet either and my biggest gripe with the game is the chat/social UI. though the recent patch made it a lot eaiser but still needs work :)

You can swim under water friend it may have been you were in too shallow water. But i have swam under at lots of places. And an under water city that needs a breathing spell would be great!

    ROFL

To emote just type /emote in the chat window and then hit tab twice, brings up a huge freaking list. More than I have seen in a lot of MMO's I have played(some hilarious ones to, like catching on fire). The other day running through Conarch Village I found a group of players standing around talking. I ran into the middle of them and started rolling on the ground screaming.. They all started laughing, pretty funny stuff..

Sorry about the no paragraphs thing lol. The reason i came back to check on this was to not only read the replies but to put that i had made a mistake about the swimming thing i felt like a big dork after i realized all i had to do was press the right mouse button and aim, its just like wow controls if i remember right. (NO IM NOT COMPARING THIS TO WOW lol, please dont choke me). Thats awesome about the emotes ill have to check that out, right now im having fun just making a ton of alts trying out all the classes.

So far ive made a barbarian and a necromancer, both pretty fast paced and fun to play. The one thing that was funny about the necromancer though is theres this pet that appears at random called frozen horror or something similar. When it first appeared i was on the beach on starter isle and fighting the mobs there. It scared me cause i thought it was a mob too lol so i was running from my own pet. It took me a second to figure out it was on my side then i couldnt help but laugh at my stupidity. So far im glad to have a game that has a few surprises in it and doesnt all seem old hat to me(same old same old).  It may be because ive only been playing it a day or so now but I hope that feeling lasts, right now im really enjoying the game.

lol running from your own pet.

That pet comes when you or anyone in your party performs a fatality.
