Well after enjoying it for close to a month I've decided to cancel by subscription. I don't feel ripped off tho. i got to experience most of the game and what it was about.
The game overall just lacked that addictive quality for me. I wanted to like it and be into it, but I just couldn't. It's just not my game.
The only thing AoC really has going for it are it's graphics. Everything else is either the same old, not as good, or just bad.
The combo system belongs on a console game not a PC MMO. It's pretty frustrating and boring after awhile.
The OOC was entertaining thanks to no moderation whatsoever. (something I personally think is a plus since people just find ways to exploit the reporting)
The pvp was somewhat entertaining, but had no system at all so it really just devolved into ganking. That's ffa pvp tho. Not complaining really, just disappointed there was no system in place at all.
That brings me to my next point. AoC was not ready for launch. The combo system aside, this game really had potential to be something legendary, but we got a beta, or more like an alpha.
I understand that MMOs are never finished, but Funcom just didn't care when they released. Long grinds due to no quests at certain levels, lack of zones, no pvp thought, a variety of bugs, and just too many core things about this game were left out.
I really wanted a mount, but it's next to impossible to get it at 40 unless you're just in love with grinding. And believe me, grinding in this game isn't fun.
So no MMO for me now. Going back to singleplayer games probably until I see an MMO out on the market.
Btw, I noticed a lot of people knockin the launch. Imo, this was the smoothest MMO launch I've ever experienced. Just thought I should add that cause that was something FunCom did right. Also, I never really had any performance issues. Game ran nicely on my new rig, least I got one game to test a 1900 dollar comp ....

Same. I'm going to give WAR a shot, if it fails, I'll give Cryptic's Star Trek Online a shot when it releases. If that fails, then I'll wait for Blizzard's next mmorpg. And if that fails, I'm done for good with the MMORPG field.
Fear not fanbois, we are not trolls, let's take off your tin foil hat and learn what VAPORWARE is:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaporware
"Vaporware is a term used to describe a software or hardware product that is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge after having well exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product."
He is not a hater, he speaks the truth.
Agreed 100%.
Sorry to hear that the game was not for you. I am having a blast playing, and the combat system is in my opinion much more interesting and rewarding than what I have experienced in other MMOs.
Yeah I was going to buy this game but then I got the fear. Ive been let down by to many mmo's and didnt want to buy another one and only play a month or less cuz I didn't like the game. I have a graveyard of games sitting around not getting played and I don't know if AOC would have been one of them, but I don't want to throw down 50 bucks to find out.
I wish all companies would just do free 30 days and the game was free to download too. And then if you liked it you could buy it. That would have saved me some money I could have used for more useful stuff. lol
At least with AoC you get a single-player part of the game that will give you value for your money, until you decide to continue onto the MMO or not.
??? the 4-5 Tortage Night quests???
Malvolentia, I agree 200%.
I was enjoying myself but as I progressed into the game, the worst things got. Too many things broken/missing/bugged and the world feels disjointed (does not feel epic at all). Which is a BAD thing if you like exploring.
I'd be stupid to pay for a game which was shipped in this state (worse than I thought!).
Even though it's obviously about personal preference, Britney Spears, Good Charlotte and even Simple Plan have their fans too.
This seems to be the general trend. The game is fun enough, and worth the price of the box. Up to lvl, 55 I was having a blast. After that, it's pretty much all down hill, and at times down right frustrating (play a female toon on a pvp server and you'll know what I mean). I stopped and uninstall at lvl. 68.
I totally agree with OP, those are my experiences as well. Well put, we do not hate AoC, we just wish the game has lived up to it's potential.
unfortunately the op holds some weight
I like the game I dont feel ripped off
Although I am around 40 lvl and do feel less addictive and boring
Although I am not to can cel my subscription coz I need something to fill in the void and at the moment AOC is okay with that
Neither a fanboy of any game waiting for SPORE on 7th september and if ia get a chance of beta test WAR even with a small price (like fileplanets subscribed user beta) I dont mind I am open to all games
I agree the game is good and I too don't feel ripped off however this game is just more of the same...
Too much hype and very little substance... the crafting is kinda bleh too... not much individuality to it.
Personally SWG at launch was more fun and had more of an atmosphere than this game. There is too many instances too that kinda break up the people and make the game feel like a single player game.
I have noticed that a LOT of people ahve left my guild and my friends list has been empty for a 2 weeks now.
I don't think the game will fail however I don't feel it will be a massive success... the game is pretty shallow and uncomplicated at the moment and there are plenty of better MMO alternatives out there at the moment that offer more of a brain challenge.
Its just more of the same... and it doesn''t help that the game is in alpha... I mean most of my skill and feats do not work LOL
I really wished they had waited on this game. I really really really wish they did. Expanded a little more. The potential for a great game is there it just doesn't seem it's being executed too well.
I hope this gets out to other MMO companies and they're a little more careful when they release.

I am a 41 Tempest of Set and have others started.
Since release I have found it interesting quest-wise enough not to log back into wow yet.
i have also had fun grouping for stuff including Sanctum instance and got some blues.
Graphics/combat are still better than anything out there and sound if you try headphones.
Game sucks- ok its got good graphics etc etc- the future of mmo's no doubt but they scammed loads of ppl with promises and not delivered them- i now know why they closed the forums of to the public on release and only gave access to ppl who brought the game- it was to make sure ppl couldnt see the millions of complaints from both eu/us forums about how bad it was.
Also all those idiots who claimed its only been outa few weeks- remeber how bugged wow was at release etc etc- what a bunch of poop- what where they doing during open and closed beta testing? and i played wow from beta and yeah it was buggy but nowhere near as bad as this- 90% of quests worked- all crafting skills worked- stats worked, world pvp worked and most importantlly gear worked and was alot more varied.
So to not compare it to wow is stupid- wow set a industry standerd, they dotn have to copy it exactlly but why break the mold when it works so well- they could of utilised loads of aspects from wow and had a even more popular mmo on thier hands isntead of one that's future is very much in doubt.
According to crossfire they have lost almsot 50% of thier player base and no doubt come end of free month they will loose alot more who will simplly quit for a few months or never come back due to the release of other mmo's and games.
I myself and a few ex wow guildies are quiting this game andnot bother ing to come back personally- we will do wow and eve again for a bit and then try stargate wolrds out in the fall.
Oh and i have 70 gaurdian and 60 PoM so yeah I know all about the grind and lack of high lvl content and 1 grind area- which is now so packed its hard to even grind to level-feel sorry for the ppl in a couple of weeks.
Also the stealth nerfs are a real slap in the face otthe comunity.
And with the way they nerf characters cause of all the moaning instead of fixing the others - both my classes have been nerfed and they wont fix things that wil ldrastically improve other classes
You have also been power playing Aoc as you have to high lvl chars, so when you complain about lack of content you only have yourself to blame tbh.
As it is silly to power play a new MMO (this is not an ideal world where games are released in a state where you can unforc).
Try lineage 2 or LOTRO that have been out a bit, you will be able to power play your chars and still have enough content to keep you happy, hopefully!
WoW has a lot to answer for, left to peeps like this there would only be one game WOW!
The updates for this game are coming at more than twice a week, which is pretty fast by anyones standard. Content will also becoming fairly quick as there is a lot which has been held back and is being introduced peicemeal.
MMOs are to last years not months, so if you fundamentally dont enjoy the game then you never will, if you do then enjoy it and are moaning about content and polish, come back after six months or so and i am sure you wont recongise the game.
The game's been pushed back six month at least four times that I remember.
Paying six month of salary (a salary adjusted for the high cost of life in norway at that) for a 110 person team is a _lot_ of money, most of which comes from investors.
It's pretty difficult to go see those guys who already threw a boatload of money at the project and ask them "6 more month pretty please with a cherry on top". At some point they'll just tell you to fuck off and release the damn thing, hoping they'll be able to recoup some of their loss.
To be honest, they had more than enough time to deliver a top notch game. It failed for other reasons than just a lack of time.
Sorry to hear that Malvo... some games are just not ours... happens... for me, AoC is great (personal reasons).
Think you said enough about the release and stuff... GL on your stand alone game...
AOC is not a bad game. It's just not the bill of goods I think a lot of us were sold.
The fact that it "could be" is what has me pissed at another game designer missing the boat yet again.
My great hope for a great PvP game was Vanguard. I still look at that game today, and ponder how much good 6 months of polish would have done.
I did not get my hopes up for AOC so I'm not dissappointed. I've not experienced a good launch for a game, but I've experienced more engaging games from level one or novice brawler through mastery. Conan has something that can't be fixed unfortunately thats the monotonous tone to combat, scenery, and questing.
Agree with OP, what took you a month to realise, took me a week. 3 weeks later still has ZERO desire to re-install this game.
You leveled to a high level in a week?

no the game came out 90% complete imo. it was just not for you. or me infact
March on! - Lets Invade Pekopon
Unfinshed, buggy content seems to be a recurring theme in MMO releases lately. TR had a lot of the same complaints. I really wish developers would listen to their audiences and stop releasing games before they're ready. It only drives off potential subscribers. I'm not saying the game needs to be bug-free, but the content should feel finalized and the bugs should be minor.
I didn't play AoC and never will What i did do though is did my research, watched vids and followed the game.
Old school MMO players can usually tell when a MMO isn't going to be good ,IF they use their heads and not the hype. AoC was gonna fail regardless.
Seriously.Conan. Out of every lore they could of done ,conan. The only fans this game is gonna have in two years time is fanboys. The vids i watched the graphics looked smooth and nice and very ground breaking from what i remember and dont get me wrong,im not knocking the game and i know imma get that ''dont put in your two cents since you haven't played'' but whatever.
Of course a game is gonna have bugs on release, hell the great MMO of the milli had bugs. It's not how a game starts out is what matters it's what you offer to the fans in the long run. word of mouth marketing is the best.
From watching the videos it looked like the graphics was all the game had running for it..you seriously think that bows had scopes on them? where in the hell did they come up with the idea of having a ''sniper'' mode for a bow. People want eaither total fantasy MMO's or as close as yo ucan get to real.We already have our Fantasy and thats wow.
Me,im personally waiting on Warhammer,Mythic did a good job with DAoC till ToA and WoW. Now EA is behind them to fund more. I pray to the MMO gods that Warhammer can shut down WoW or atleast make a dent in it's numbers cause alot of good MMO's are coming out
Warhammer
Champions Online
Stargate Worlds
Guild Wars 2
And i sure theres alot more in the makings but the whole P2P thing is gonna die out...theres more people playing same quality free games then people playing P2Ps

The light blue shows how dumb you are. You accept unfinished products. If you and other stop buying into products such as these they will end.
No company wants there product to fail. So they make stories and claims of what their product will do and have or what not. If us MMORPG players stop allowing MMO companies to lie and spew out garbage unfinished products they will be forced to FINISH their games before releasing them.
That is all.
