RoFL at those who complain about performance of a game. Sure it has bugs I've gotten hit with them as well. However, I do not even have a high end machine and can miraculously achieve 30-50fps in this game with everything maxed. On top of that the 15 or so customers who I've upgraded their computers to play Age of Conan have personally witnessed me boot up their machines and take all their sliders to max and still have it running over 30fps in the most dense parts of tortage. Moral of the story, you look like an idiot when you rant about how bad a game is when the only support lent is the perforance stinks. Obviously you don't have the horsepower to run the game, or your machine is so bogged down with inessential programs downloaded over the year(s) that there is no free power left.
As someone also said there are going to be those who love it and hate it. I've heard both, and as long as it is a reason of "such-and-such factor just bothered me" then that is cool. Saying the game sucks because your silly computer is incapable of running it makes me laugh. As for the award it most likely is based on sales and review scores. Not on whether the game can run on a HP-Compaq-Emachine-Gateway-Dell.
Well I can officially say that your post is a load of balhooey. A minimum spec'd machine as they have posted on the AoC site will not play the game with any success period. Even the suggested machine won't run the game acceptably.
I have a nvidia 7800 and the game runs like molasses. I get 4 times the FPS from even Oblivion than their crappy client and I have a decent dual processor machine with plenty of memory.
The only system I have seen this client run well on is systems with 8800 graphics cards. Hence the OP nailed it.
So you can post all you want about your success with running the game on unoptimal computers, but everyone that posts here knows that is nonsense.
So if you want to pay for beta testing it, please do so, I have better places to spend my money.
A friend is running aoc with a 7600 and is getting 30-50fps, on low/medium settings. (can drop to 20fps in the middle of cities)
If this wins PC game of the year then all the the other games must be awful. If there was any justice in the world this won't win, I'm going to try and do what I can by voting against it. AoC is flawed, unfinished, linear, grindy & far too instancy (is that even a word?) please don't vote for this game!!!
wow, didn't expect AoC to be on a list of those games. sorry but they can't win best game of year or even best online game of year (which i voted eve).
if they win any award being voted on then i'll be pretty surprised and maybe ask for a recount.
Unbelievable. The first mmo I've every played where, even though I easily exceed minimum specs, the game gets crap fps to the point of being unplayable.
Ofcourse, I was reading AOC forums and some guy who was getting 2 to 10 fps was saying it was playable for him and he liked it. Hahahaha. Some people like to watch slideshows I guess.
Literally thousands of posts on official tech forums complaining about performance. Not only ati people now. Apparently there are quite a few nvidia people who are seeing declining fps, etc. Don't believe me? Head over there yourself and start reading.
Ofcourse, anyone can be nominated for anything. But still, if this is the way of professional reviews and such I'm giving up on gamesites for anything other than screenshots and movie clips.
And no, I'm not a hater. I actually love the game, and I want it to succeed. But Funcom needs to get there head out of their assess and optimize their game engine. The free month is essentially over and they are releasing everything but optimization. People were getting better fps in beta, and fps for many has gotten progressively worse for more than just a handful of people. Something is wrong with their engine. Fix it, so people can play your game and give it a fair shake.
The game has potential as so many games do. That is the frustrating aspect of this. But it fails at the technical level for many people who meet or even far exceed even the recommended specs. And there are apparently a lot of people for whom the game runs great. And for those people I say congratz and I am happy you can play the game and have fun. But acknowledge there are a significant number of people who are having problems. The fact that you may not meet them in game might only mean many have given up on playing the game and simply no longer log in when performance for them is utter trash.
Mmo's need subs. They need a good community to be healthy and grow. We are all in this together and I'm sure most if not all the people labeled as so called 'haters' would love to be proven wrong and play a really fun game.
For the health of the game and it's future community, Funcom MUST optimize. Otherwise it will dwindle and die. Ofcourse, never underestimate the power of tits and a good beheading.....but still.
After nearly a decade of playing MMOs Age of Conan really does impress with its appearance as well as general gameplay. The price to pay is older/slower systems may struggle with this. But should every MMO restrict itself by being compatible with older systems - personally I think not. There are a plethora of alternatives for older machines. Mine is well over a year old and I get 30-60fps and to be honest no more bugs then any other launch games and less then many. Maybe I am a lucky so and so but I am hardly in a small minority.
By being a solid title and diffferent , gorgeous graphics as well as tits and behaeadings, conan is much more likely to prosper. I do sympathise with those who cannot play it because it is a fine game but standing out from the crowd must be beneficial.

Have you not noticed that it's not only those with older/slower systems who are having performance issues, or are you just ignoring those for sake of fanboism? Save the "I have no problems, so noone else does either" spiel.

If you read my post correctly you would of noticed I said 'maybe I am a lucky so and so but i am hardly in a small minority' - implying I accept many are having graphical problems in a demanding game.
Calling me a fanbois (almost a compliment at my age) because I spoke positively shows great immaturity. To be honest I do get a bit annoyed by the extreme wingeing and negativity of so many forum post I almost feel the need to be upbeat to redress the balance - of course many who are enjoying the game are to busy playing it.
I have to wonder about the people crying abut poor performance in AoC.I have an old rig and run it just fine on high settings with shadows and AA turned down.7600gt 2.6 C2D 2g ram and i run between 25-50 no problem.Im wondering what kinda machines these people are using...
