i know nothing about EQ2 guilds any ways...

Legion of Light is going to be vaporware though and Ebonlore is going to play like 4 months and quit. THen say they pwned the server and they left because their was no competition

Actually, Deso has never played a game without pvp in it. Horizons was played by some of us, but only lasted about 2 months before everyone got bored and quit.
I think Kunou explained it rather well that most Deso members dont want to be forced to pvp, but the majority of Deso members do like having the choise of pvp. I think about 7 or 8 of our members are even still playing SB...for some unknown reason.
Edit: Oh yeah, forgot about CoH, which some played for about two months and again quit.
Going on what Kunou has already said, I have to agree that the likelyhood of well established Guilds to deminish because of EQ2 is slim.
As a casual gamer due to "real life" responsibilites, (Imagine that?) I am unable to administer the Clan from within all the games we are involved with. (We're not exclusive to MMORPG's). That and the fact it would cost me my entire allowance, So... this allows the oppertunity for Members of the community to demonstrate their leadership skills and carry on our mark.
However, I will be present in Both WoW and EQ2.

Maxxx, don't be a hater...The reason people are eager to become a part of something bigger than themselves before the game is even released is because it is a new realm of hidden excitement. People (well, most people) look forward to the teamwork that goes into making something huge happen. People like to go at something with friends rather than all alone.

No problem, it's what I do. I've been leading guilds as long as mmorpgs have existed. I've been leading this particular group of ummm fine folks since the first days of DAoC. If anyone should be able to lay it all out tehre it'd have to be me. If I had to pick one thing Deso had going for it, it's staying power. I think we'd continue to exist as a community/guild even without a game to play, we all get along that well. Just today I had 2 people who played with us WAY back in the first couple weeks of SWG, hadn't heard fromt hem since then when they quit the game (don't think I need to go into why people quit SWG
) but they tracked me down again looking to join back up with Deso in EQ2. 
Anyway, like I've said before, if you have any further questions Sarin feel free to contact me on my guild forums or in email or IMs (I use AIM, MSN and Y! and keep them on all the time).

Forgive me for answer people's questions, I'm sorry if it bothered you, seeing as you joined the site today, and have all of one post... I'm sorry if the fact that me being a Guild Leader AND a Staff member at this site offends you or doesn't seem fair in some manner. Personally I don't see how I've EVER used my position with this site to "control the boards" in order to get added press for DesOlation. If I were deleting posts from other guilds and such, then yeah, you'd have a point. Every other guild in question in this thread has responded, no one else has commented or complained about it, so if you don't like it, don't read it.

Actually I never even noticed it wasn't in the Guilds forum, I moved it. Like it matters much which forum it's in. My guild has never needed the "press" of me being staff here. Desolation has existed LONG before I became staff here. I suppose though that your grand conspiracy theory will include me having applied for Staff here SOLELY to get more "press" for my guild...
So what about Malk? He's an admin here and a Guild Leader, he's not trying to dig up "press" for his guild by posting here also? I don't see where there are 2 guilds "going at each othere" here as you seem to think... Murt posted askign for info on 2 different guilds. Several others also chimed in with questions for those guilds and for info from Malk about Blood. NONE of the guilds or Guild Leaders in question had anything to do with starting this thread, we only responded with the information we were asked for.
I'm still not seeing how me being staff here gives my guild any advantage... If anything my guild has the advantage that I was the one who attended teh SOE Fansite Event... but then again considering my report was posted HERE not on my Guild Site, every single member of this site received that advantage, not just my guild. As for recruitment? Of ALL the registered members on my forums, like a total of about FIVE tops came from these forums. And most of those came over LONG before this thread popped up.

My goodness, what an odd little person... Is this some new rule in the laws of mankind, that the people administrating and running a site about games, no longer have th right to actually PLAY those games, since doing both things at the same time would give them some.. unfair.. advantage...
I do not know who made up that rule, but that person should sit down and start all over again from scratch.

im not sure why this had become as controversial as it had. Murt asked a question and a number of people answered him to the best of their ability based on what they believed... if it so happens that every guild here happens to implode i would have to question the game...
and does it really matter whether or not Kunou is a mod or not? this site isnt linked to the making of EQII and joining a guild just because the leader is staff for MMORPG wouldnt make sense or give you any real advantage.
if your going to join a guild do it because you want too not because of the name or because your pressured into it. my advice would be to shop around alittle go to each guilds forums and chat alittle with their leadership and members, see where you fit in, and make a decision for yourself. the only way your truely going to get the most out of the game is if you find people you want to play with... or play by yourself solo if that happens to be your thing. this isnt going to be a pvp game atleast not at first and i doubt it'll end up open pvp at anytime so you dont need to worry about HAVING to be in a giant guild just to have fun.
play who you want to play with and success will come. like kunou said, rivalries are kinda pointless since theres no pvp... it wont be like shadowbane where if i didnt like you i could go and blow up your city... where as alliances may have its advantages for trade and such
