so i was watching some vids and reading up on the main website and i am keen to play a wizard (love my fire spells).  a few questions that i have before i attempt to start

1. does the wizard have many fire spells?

2. does he have a longcast high damage spell?

3. does he have a good mix of long/short cast spells?

4. roughly how long does it take to reach max lvl on the newest, classic and the new server that they were set to release?

5. is it a horrible grind or an average grind (like WoW and LOTRO)

6. how fun is pvp?

7. how active is the community?  i live in Aus so the different time zones usually stuff up my groups

8. i hear all this talk about RvR.  is it going on all the time or is it in little bursts (9-10am then nothing til 5pm kind of thing)?

and last (but by far the most important)  how big a download am i looking at?  i saw the trial was 2 gig but there were quite a few expansions and extra files.

MMO wish list:

-Changeable worlds
-Solid non level based game
-Sharks with lasers attached to their heads

The way it works is like this.  Wizards have 3 different spell lines to specialize in.  Earth, Fire and Ice.  And each line has a bunch of base spells that you get no matter where you put your points into and then it has the spec line that you get when you start putting points into a given element.  That means that you'll have a nice variety of spells to use as you see fit.  And even though you'll end up specializing in fire you'll still use some base spells from ice for your root and the magic armor and shields and what not from the earth lines.

    1.  You'll get bolt spells which have the longest range in the game, you'll get nukes that are your average DD range as well as an area of effect nuke and a ground target one that lets you explode it where ever you place your ground target.  This means you can sneak it under doors or put it up on a balcony where you have no line of sight.

    2.  The cast time in this game depends on your dexterity.  The more you have the faster you cast, up until a certain point where you hit the speed cap.  I'm not too sure what you're asking for when you say "longcast" because I can interpret that 2 ways.  You're either talking about how long it takes to cast or how far your spells will reach.  In case of the distance you can hit, yes fire wizards in albion, void eldritch in hibernia and runecarving runemasters in Midgard have the longest spells, along with bainshee and Warlocks but theirs are slightly different.  With fire you will be one of the casters with the longest range.

    3.  Once again not sure if you want distance or time it takes to cast spells.

    4.  I reached max level on my warrior when I played about 1 year ago in about 3 weeks, but I took my time.  You may do it faster if you want for it is possible.

    5.  My response here is going to be biased because I liked the grind in DAoC and hated it in WoW.  I have not played LotRO so I can't compare it to that one.  I personally didn't think it was all that bad but I don't exactly see things as others do.

    6.  I found DAoC to be the only game that did PVP right.  The only problem with it that I have is the somewhat lacking population.  If they could get a server with as many people as they did when the game launched then it would be just fine.

    7.  Back when I played I found people playing on the North American servers that were from Italy, France, Germany and so on.  Not sure how you being from Australia (?) will affect you.

    8.  It all depends how many people are on the server.  Obviously when people come home from work/school and have time to play will you see active RvR.  The fact that there are people playing from other time zones might change that slightly so you'll have to see for yourself.  When I played it usually picked up in the afternoons and evenings server time.  The servers are located in Virginia I believe.

As per the download amounts, I don't know.  I have the cd's as I bought them as they came out so I have no idea.  if you go to the Camelot Herald you can check the size of the downloads and get all the info there.  Hope that helps.

No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-
