I just want to say that i reactivated my account on swg. I started playing this game in 2003-2004 and loved it. Swg was always a great game, and despite the NGE Swg will always have a certain "thing" about it that other MMO's can not offer. I logged on to my usual server (Bria) and was very, very surprised on how active the community still is. Yes, i know. It's not what it use to be by any means, but the community is still filled with active players and vet's all over. With new player's joining daily. Even though this game has gone down hill, it has not hit rock bottom. So i do not just want new players thinking about giving SWG a try to not do so because of the negative people on these forums. Like i said SWG has something different that other MMO's just don't have. So give it a try, it's worth it.

100 % agree. This in MY OPINION...Is by far the funnest mmo i've ever played. And I didn't play at all before NGE.
Waiting for: Archeage, Darkfall 2.0, and Planetside 2.
R.I.P Shadowbane; The best MMORPG I've ever played...

I am a Pre-CU vet (played from release, quit a month after the NGE) and I reactivated my subscription about two or three weeks ago and I have been enjoying the game very much. I play on the Starsider server and the community is very good, if you like roleplaying it is even better. There were atleast 75 people around the Mos Eisley cantina area last night, it was like the good old times before NGE.
Like the others have said, no other game has the Star Wars experience and the freedom that SWG offers. I would definately recommend this game to anyone who has not tryed it, chances are you will enjoy it very much if you have not played Pre-CU. My only recommendation is to join the highly populated servers, because your experience will MUCH better. Star Wars Galaxies may not be the game it was before the NGE, but as a vet and a long time Star Wars fan I can still say that it is a fantastic game.
STOP WHINING!
I am vet as well and just reactivated my account as well. I am on the Lowca server and getting reaquainted with the game. I have run into some great people who have helped me in space get my act together which has been a huge help.
There are players on Lowca?
Oh my!
STOP WHINING!
Yup I reactivated awhile back (couple months maybe not sure) and was very happy with what I saw. Its still in my opinion the best game out there and very fun to play. There is always something to do depending on the time you have. If you want to play all evening you can find something that will be fun. If you can only play for a short time that day there are plenty of solo things now that can be done at your leisure if that is your playstyle. I still consider this a sandbox game even though there are built in questlines you can take them or leave them it doesnt matter. In any event despite the negativity as someone who first picked up this game (not even knowing it was an mmorpg at the time in 2003 as I didn't fully read the box hehe) and has seeen its ups and downs I can still say that its an excellent game in comparison to the bulk of new and old games out there.
p.s. I play on tempest and its classified as a low pop server but there is still a lot of fun to be had and when we do something GCW like etc you realize just how many people are scattered around. Plenty of fun to be had still.
At least 6 that I know of muhahha
Funny, I went back a year and a half ago, a year ago, and I went back 2 months ago and played my free Vet Trial and the game was still as bad as ever, just with MUCH less people playing it.
I'm not sure why the viral marketing is going on here but SWG is essentially what it was Nov. 15, 2005, added some skills they ripped off of WoW, the pet system they ripped off of WoW, and take away even more of the players.
Not trying to flame here but at least be reasonable about how you ask people to go subscribe and spend their hard earned money on a game that offers the sort of failure this one does. I highly advise ANYONE who might be remotely interested in playing SWG to use the Free Trial, don't pay a dime until you have seen for yourselves.

I had retired from SWG in March 2005. Over that time i went back in the end of 2006 for some days, then quited . Went to the free trial 3 weeks ago and reactivated my account.
SWG is a shadow of what it was and yet, after going crazy over AOC for like 2 to 3 weeks I ended up loving SWG for what it still has in the core planets: freedom to go anywhere & social interactivity. this just show that hypered half finished new mmorpgs with promisses of ilusion and content (AOC) can drive a person to the basics: playability and interaction.
I am in one hald dead server, eclipse, and yet I do have more interesting conversations than what i ever did in AOC and while in both games end up grinding, at least in SWG i grind where I want, what I want. Plus the crafting system stil beats almost anything out there.
Is it my impression or the skeleton crew of devs is slowly adding or attempting to add more " PRE CU" elements?
bottom line, swg isn't that bad. Or maybe it is, but most of the competition can make it look ok - what just shows that there has been a devolution in the mmorpg genre.
I play on Valcyn and have been playing since the game launched. I have seen it all and I still very much enjoy the game. Sure there were times when I considered leaving and played a good deal less than I am am currently but when I compared what I had in SWG to what other games offered there was no contest. I enjoy both the space and ground game and I will agree with the other posters in that along with new faces many vets have been returning to my server as of late. We had some great PvP last night!
It is sad when a game launched in 2003 still offers things (even if butchered by vicious devs) that few or no other game has.
It is sad that SWG still has probably the more extensive game world of current western mmorpg's -- it is like 10 times bigger than AOC and 2 to 3 times bigger than wow.
it is sad that SWG has, when compared to more recent mmorpg's, the more complex and rewarding craft system, operational player bounties, full social classes/professions, an instanced world, seemless world, space game, ground game.... SWG was revolutionary and it is sad the some of us get back to it because some of the revolutionary aspect are still REVOLUTIONARY .... this just shows that all of us , as mmorpg's customers, have been accepting sub par, monotonous, conservative, cloned products over the last 3 years, sometimes even eagering waiting for them - AOC is a prime example- to just go back to a 5 year game.
and it is even more sad that SWG was a niche game. and a very sucessful one, but at the time most of us - and the devs- didn't understand that the future is on niche mmorpg's.
WoW was probably the last sucessful mass morpg's and i'm willing to bet that the next of that kind and caliber will be also a blizzard product.
And any just some venting. Hope to see you on eclipse .
I will agree that other MMO games fail to impress as well.
I enjoy AoC much more than SWG if nothing else the combat is much better and more fun to play. SWG has busted combat. RPG combat sped up 5X to simulate FPS, which it fails to deliver on.
I have found that the new players on Bloodfin to be some of the worst I have ever encountered.
Just my opinion but it seems to be shared by most.
