Has any eve player here had the joy of playing the BBS Door game years ago called Tradewars 2002 (if you dig around you can occasionally find an internet server for it)
I ask because after a couple days in the game it reminds me greatly of it.
In both games you can have multiple ships
those ships can be upgraded with various parts
you can create corporations in both games
you can trade your way to riches in both games
there are plenty of space stations in each game
each galaxy is divided into systems or sectors
Tradewars 2002 was probably my all time favourite game from that era (that and land of devestation)
and my all time fav space game (X2, and Freelance just don't even touch that game for all their graphical goodness)
That being said there are a few things eve doesn't have that tradewars had
The ability to own planets (and then colonize those planets with people who provided resources for you each day)
The ability to build citidels on those planets for defense and as HQ for your corporations
The ability to create a planet with a transgenesis torpedo (not a biggie if there ar eplenty of planets)
The ability to build space stations for trade
Otherwise this game is the closest game to TW2002 that I've ever played even without the stations/planets.
I've heard rumours online about an EP that is coming out that will add stations..what about some of the other things? anyone know?

Yeah I know.. it was called Tradewars Dark millenium I THINK I had a wall paper for it. It got scrapped.
This game though is an excellent sort of follow up to it in a way, adding just those few features would recreate alot of that excellent classic gameplay.

If you liked Trade Wars, and you like EvE, you will also like Privateer.

your arguement is so persuasive, so filled with knowledge and insight. You back up your argument very articulately, with suggestions of improvements and raising examples to glorify your position....oh wait, you didn't
Oh yeah, long long time ago.... TW2002... Played in a local bbs with school friends...
Pretty good and fun until a bug gived one of us unlimited funds.
We were all knowing each other and the sysop of the bbs personnaly, with the usual conflicts going on between school mate, that bug breaked the group, because some did'nt accept it as a bug like it was but as a maneuver to help some by the sysop...
Well, TW2002 changed life litteraly...
Eve is very close to TW2002 on many aspect but I lack the planets and planetary gun (with ressource management to keep them working) that it had... now, beeing blasted from existance just by jumping into a system where the citadel did'nt like you was, a real, unexpected, flash of dying light...
Now what Eve is lacking is Carbonite dyoxite (I think was the name) it's something you were putting on your ship like a dead man switch, if the ship blow up, it was using that to give bigger blast range and damage other ship... so, sometimes, it was fun to die...
