Whats the diffrence then you ask? Why did LOTRO get away with it and AoC is getting hammered for it. The awnser is simple really. Its part the hype AoC had (which yes, AoC had alot more hype than LOTRO). The other part is unlike LOTRO, AoC launch with many, many bugs that just wherent seen anywhere in LOTRO. End game content yes, I would expect there to be end game bugs in any new release. The problem here is AoC has major bugs affecting many people. Don't believe me? Fine but a simple "Age of Conan bugs" seach on youtube will show you a large amount of them.
Well said.
Yeah, well said, only AoC is doing just fine, and launched better than LOTRO. LOTRO has been out since dirt. When AoC has been out as long as LOTRO, then the comparasin will actually make sense. MMOs usually get better over time. For a poster at a site that deals with this genre only, you should understand this.
I was in the LOTRO beta and did not buy it because, frankly, it was WOW with even more boring characters.
AoC breaks milestone after milestone, and you haters come in here all like "No wonder AoC failed." Dude, give us a break. These blatant lies are getting old.
Name one milestone other than the whole 1 mil shipped mark.

Dude... the only milestone this game is going to break next is a record number of first month cancelations. If the best thing you can say is that this game opened with more people than LOTRO that's pretty sad.
MMO's usually get better over time? Tell that to Vanguard, Tabula Rasa, PoTbs and damn near every other MMO released recently. This game will be yet another game that has it's best numbers the first month it came out.
If you like the game thats great enjoy it but face the reality that most people do not agree with you. I remember people saying all the same stuff when Vanguard was hemoraging subs and people refused to realise the game was a failure.
I really get a kick out of people that give the OP a hard time because he has 2 lvl 80's. If the guy said i quit at lvl 30 people would be saying oh man you havn't even played half the game, your opinion means nothing, go lvl noob. Like what this game is only designed for jerrys kids who take 6 months to get to max lvl because they log in more to talk in chat channels than to play the game? If your goint to try to invalidate someone elses opinion maybe try doing it with some substance rather than just saying they play too much as if it is their fault the game has no end game content.

Ok most unethical business practices ever shown leading up to the release of a MMO
I had huge hopes for AOC. Thats all i can say. Yesterday my entire guild decided that AOC was too much of a fuck-up to play anymore. It actually ruined my whole day at work. So much time invested.. so many dashed hopes. The truth is.. Funcom is a piece of shit company that never can produce in time to keep subs. AO was a disaster, and it seems they haven't learned anything in the past 4 years or so. Feel free to flame, but after getting 2 characters to 80.. having nothing to do essentially but PVE raid on a PVP server in a game that was originally supposed to be PVP focused, myself and our 20ish guild members have decided that FUNCOM has miserably failed to provide any sort of worthwhile PVP experience. On top of this.. the patches every 4 days where they essentially retool entire classes make the game unbearable to play. Everything that had been patched until now was never properly tested.. and should have been in beta. People will say. blah blah GG you.. goodbye, we dont need you.. or just wait, it will be good in a few months. My response to this is, NO. Just plain NO. PvP systems are being revamped as we speak to make them Karma based and more carebear gear grindish than ever. AOC failed the second it decided that PVE was important enough to start changing classes based on PVE balance. It takes 3 days played to get a char to 80.. in other words.. no one gives a fuck about lvling balance. Killing mass mobs is easy so stop balancing classes b/c of their ability to kill mobs. Balance should have been PvP oreiented which is obviously not the case since almost all balances being made were to chars that they deemed OP in pve. Single target DPS, especially by classes that sucked in PVE were left in tact, bugged as hell. In a PVP game, PVP guilds decide on spec groups in order to roll around together. You cant make spec groups when every four days you have to shit yourself wondering what AOC is going to patch to radically change everything that you do. GG Funcom. You actually made the game fail with your shitty patches. I can honestly say that if you had left the game as it was when it released... and focused only on adding end game PVP content ( as of now, they've fixed dungeons.. but what have they done with seiges. NOTHING. they added like what 1 NPC. This is after they acknowledged how important PVP is to them in that bullshit letter) What have i learned? Never ever ever play a FUNCOM game again. Id rather play crap ass Korean grind games with 0 content that at least focus around PVP.
Back to Shadowbane.. and back to waiting for Warhammer.
Ruined your day at work???? damn, this should be fun for your free time, if you can't manage game with RL in order to avoid this kind of thing you have way more problems then just a game...
Well, GL on Shadowbane and waiting for Warhammer....
I like the game, but I feel like I am paying to be in a beta... no matter how you look at it, this game is still at the beta stage and it will continue to be there for a while still.
At my MMO GY.. yes its big. But as you can see.. i've enjoyed many titles. Hell i even played WoW for 2 years.. on and off granted but hey paying customer. I love MMO's. My guildmates love MMO's. We try most everyone that comes out. We beta and then retail just in case they fix some stuff. Very Occasionally there is a nugget of gold in piles and piles of shit (figuratively). I stated what these nuggets were earlier. Now, gold tarnishes over time if its not polished.. and well.. thats what has happened. Bugs/dupes/sploits are found and if not fixed.. then a game goes south very very quickly .
At the RL/IRL distinction:
Yes.. i play these games for fun. However they are a major source of relaxation and respite for me. When my cornerstone of enjoyment is crushed it does have an affect on my life outside of gametime. Im DISSAPOINTED b/c i was expecting AOC to rock PVP wise until WAR came out.. and if WAR sucked, we could always fall back to AOC. Now my insurance is up, and all my stock is in a highly volatile in-production game. SO yes.. when we had our guild meeting and decided to lay down AOC for a long time.. i knew that coming up were 5 months of dealing with crappy servers/low server pop/ and hordes of Chinese in Shadowbane whilst we wait for WAR. Yea.. pretty depressing when games dont fulfill our expectations.
On a side note. Ive never fully read an EULA but IMHO gaming is becoming a very serious thing. We put a lot of stock into an MMO and when it doesnt deliver.. no one is held liable. I think maybe its time someone tried to hold these companies liek FUNCOM liable legally for not living up to their end of the bargain. Dunno if this is even remotely feasible.. but id like it nonetheless.
When I was younger, I was a "fan" of games for example among other things. I would probably disregard alot of bad things and horrible games if I was the fan of the entire concept.
Today, there is no way I will do the same. I value the quality of how I spend my free time above everything else. I pay for entertainment - that means I pay for things that offer me fun. I am not prepared to pay for things that will frustrate me or put me into bad mood, because I get enough of stress and problems I have to deal with at work and I am not goig to whillingly impose more of it on myself, and as sure as hell I am not going to pay for it.
Maybe that is one of the things that companies have to realise. We are not in 80s anymore, and the entire generations of gamers grew up since UO, AO, EQ etc, so it is time for companies to change their attitudes.
I just weight things over - I have 2 hours spare I can game - why in hell would I spend it getting bored and frustrated when there are products out there that will offer me FUN. Frankly, I prefer watching a good DVD, or chase cars in GTA4, or go quickly slash some mobs in Ninja Gaiden, maybe read a chapter or two from a good book or go to a pub for a beer with a friend. All of that will offer me more fun and less un needed stress, so I would be insane to pick getting freaked out while paying for a beta test of a game with much potential, just because it maybe will offer me some fun somewhere down the line - that is not my job, that is the job of the people who develop the game - I am the customer and I am putting my money down to be able to enjoy myself. I do not care about FCs (or any other companie's) funding and investors, or reasons behind why they screwed me and sold me a lacking product. That is their problem to worry about.
Screw potential - execution is all that counts. How many kids are potentially good athletes but never become champions. Talent and potential is just one of the predispositions for great achievements, and it doesnt mean anzthing if you don't work on it.
It is up to each and every one of us to decide how much we value our free time and how we whish to spend it, and wether a product is worthy of our financial support or not, and wether the product offers us what we expect from it at the time of purchase or not.
I'm sorry but if you played 6 days /played on any game the price of the game was well worth it. You spent more time in the game then any other normal game which costs the same.
If the game held your attention that much it wasn't a bad game, now if there is no end game like we all know there isn't then there is no need to resubscribe.
But to say the game is outright garbage after spending all the time that you did spend in it really wasn't that bad because you did get your money worth.
Compared to other games, yes AoC is garbage and is not worth subscribing to. If graphics is everything for you then this game is prob something for you. If you are playing games for fun, this is not a game for you.
Before the AoC was out people slated it badly saying it wont make release, it then released and all those people ate their words.
Now it seems those players are back again taking the piss out of the game, when it has only been out for about a month.
The main people that are disaapointed with AoC at the moment are the power players that have 2 lvl80 chars. Which is ironic because power players should know better than complain about lack of end game content.
I bet you they will all be back once the seige PvP is up and running properly.
Its a dsigrace that any company will ever release a game so unfinished to the paying public.
Only thing we can do and should do is to chancel our accounts (those that were stupid enough to follow the hype) and let Funcom suffer.
And then maybe learn that a game that is a) not offering open beta b) not lifting NDA at least week before launch should ALWAYS be considered as garbage.
Seriously guys - How many Warning signs were there about this one ?
There are 3 types of people in the world. 1.) Those who make things happen 2.) Those who watch things happen 3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"
AOC as an MMO is garbage. Im sorry.. did i miss something when a game is rated on how cool it is lvling up.. MMO's arent. B/C lvling up is the work you put into the game to get to the real game.
Will i be back if AOC ungarbagfies itself.. probably yes.. BUT you miss my point. We left b/c of the direction of the game.. not the state. Look at upcoming PVp notes and youll see that this game is going to get worse and worse. Seiging will never be fixed and never be viable for small guilds. End of story.. AoC fails and most likely wont ever be that great like it should have been.
AOC as an MMO is garbage. Im sorry.. did i miss something when a game is rated on how cool it is lvling up.. MMO's arent. B/C lvling up is the work you put into the game to get to the real game
Let's not speak for everyone hmm? Last time I checked you still have to play the game to level up, and if that experience is complete crap, and is not fun or cool then why continue? because the end game could be good? I dunno, I'm not one to pay for something that I find to be tedious, boring or uncool, I certainly am not going to pay someone so that I can work to eventually play a game. Bottom line the grind is still the game, and if it's crap I don't continue.
God: Repent! Me: I will not repent. God: What will you do instead? Me: Sin. God: Sounds like a plan.

I agreed to alot of your posts in this thread until you stated the above highlighted statement.
This one statement put's things in perspective. It's not the game's unfinished state that you are unhappy with, it's the lack of endgame content. Over the last couple of years every MMO I've played gets these sort of posts shortly after release. Your post was disguised better than most due to all the flaming AoC is receiving at the present, but what it all comes down to is you are a power gamer (nothing wrong with this playstyle) that has ran out of content.
Regarding your statement. Personally the leveling is my favourite part of a MMO, I enjoy exploring new places, seeking new experiences, grouping with new people to explore far of dungeons etc. IMO a MMO should be fun all through the level ranges including endgame, thats why I laugh and sigh when I see comments like the the game gets better after level 40 or wait to endgame to experience the fun. If I'm not enjoying myself at level 20 why should I continue playing something I'm not finding enjoyable to experience someone else's perceived fun at level 40 etc. According to you a MMO is about the endgame. If this is what a MMO is all about why not start the game at max level and play the real game, why bother with levels.
I apologise if I'm wrong in my assessment, but this is what the highlighted statement screams at me.
the only thing is.. this end game.. or real game as i call it has really nothing to do with content. I dont want raids and epic PVE zones and lvls and shit. I just want a solid system in place that makes PVP a rewarding experience. I dont mean rewarding by gear. i mean rewarding by giving me the feeling that i have somehow inconvenieced the pleyer i kill to a somewhat large extent. Be it by travel time, loss of gear/cash or by just taking him out of the fight for 10-15 mins. This style of PVP needs to happen in open world.. not in instances.. and if people choose to avoid it, create reasons to open world pvp. IE 1 instance so you cant just go and swtich when you are getting your face owned. Overall there is no risk/reward (again see above for my definition of reward) system in place. Sadly enough, the system that they are now hyping with their ALL-Star marketting team is about as appealing to a PvPer as two girls/one cup is to an OBCD hypochondriac.
lamens terms: when i kill someone i want them to face crush their keyboard b/c it sucks to get owned. At the moment, the worst thing you can make someone do is switch instances. totally not satisfying.

AKA, You are a griefer, and want to continually be able to grief people. There is a reason they put in different instances. No game is going to cater to that kind of gameplay.
Are you showing Hypocrisy at its best OP? You level 2 characters to 80? Then claim the game is garbage? LOL I see the problem here as well..
Who cares how many toons the guy has , his free month for buying the game just game up
The logic you people use to support a lying , scamming company like funcom is amazing
Using exploits to reach lvl 80 in 3 days and then basing that rate of progression as the reason the game is a failure IS the problem. Obviously there should never have been the ability to exploit the games mechanics to permit character from doing this, but Funcom infact did fail here.
I aslo agree that the OP was never going to subscribe and was simply looking for another community to grief since they're likely tired of wacking on ferries with sticks in the other mmo they play. Class balances are severly needed but the problem is in fact that pvp-griefers are the ones whinning the most. Classes should be balanced for PvE with PvP's balances being dictated by your allies.
Funcom, yes they fucked up. The bugs, which there's a plethora of them and they continue to add more each patch, is enough reason to not play the game.
I honestly believe Funcom failed miserably even though I have fun playing the game before it crashes, which is every 45-60 minutes as of the last patch. The game ran smoother when it launched then it does now.
I had huge hopes for AOC. Thats all i can say. Yesterday my entire guild decided that AOC was too much of a fuck-up to play anymore. It actually ruined my whole day at work. 2 @ 80 already?
Geez man what did you do play for 10 hours at a time?
I get 2 hours if im lucky on a good day.
Wow so Ao is a disaster? Is that why its free to play and STILL MAKES A PROFIT!!!!
A year after launch AO won game of the year.I predict the same accolades for AoC.
Lemme save you some time in the future. When Warhammer comes out say after a month just remove all references in the above statement and insert Warhammer and EA/MYTHIC where needed.
Cause ya know what?MMO"S change a lot.The classes even change over time.Guess you didnt know that though.

The main people that are disaapointed with AoC at the moment are the power players that have 2 lvl80 chars. Which is ironic because power players should know better than complain about lack of end game content.
I bet you they will all be back once the seige PvP is up and running properly.
This all comes down to one thing....
The game wasn't ready for retail.
Seriously guys - How many Warning signs were there about this one ?
now bags are broken lol

There are 3 types of people in the world.
1.) Those who make things happen
2.) Those who watch things happen
3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"
Lol, something so simple yet seems so hard Oo
Are you serious? AO was one of the worst launches of any MMO ever. It's definitely in the top 5 in the MMO world, alongside Vanguard.
LOL at the guy who rename the game :
Garb-age of Conan"
Sorry for ya, hears some tears.
What is your physical limit?
