Anygood sandbox MMos?

CaielGCaielG Member Posts: 16

Are there any good sandbox MMOs out there?  I was really big into Star Wars Galaxies, but that is obviously not a sandbox MMO anymore and Saga of Ryzom is dead.  Are there any other games that allowed the freedom that these games once allowed?

Actually, if you check the Ryzom main site there is some form of teaser image. All may not be dead yet..

Have you given Eve any consideration?

Yea I actually played EVE for awhile, but I felt kinda restricted in space all the time.

I'd say waiting for Ryzom to come back is your best bet. I looked far and wide for something that gave the sandbox feeling of Ryzom. Even the noob island experience is worth playing. The new player island has lots of quests to get you use to the interface and action stanza system. Once you hit mainland you can choose to do what the heck you feel like doing. Another positive thing about Ryzom is that you only need to role one toon. One toon can train anything in the skill tree. I hope to see you on Atys :)

Yeah EVE takes awhile to adjust too. I personally recommend my friends to simply just take the dive and subscribe. You really don't get anything done in EVE in 14 days.

Ambulation patch should be coming around soon as well

Keep watching Ryzom, but if you're yearning for an immediate sandbox experience, play EVE in the interim.

For fun you can give UO a 14 day trial.

    Wurm Online

Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!

Wait for Ryzom or try Wurm.

If you dont mind 2d graphics that opens up a lot of options, like Starport. If you dont mind something a little older- try Vendetta Online. If you scour the web really hard, you can find some sandbox games in closed testing. Some have a slight indy feel to them but they are really fun to mess around with

Unfortunately the one I helped test recently- they don't allow us to advertise their site. Which really sucks I wish they would allow me to advertise it for them

try Rohan. It is definitely an asian grindfest, but you grind in groups, which makes it more entertaining. Something worth a shot.

Vanguard has improved a lot since release.  You might find it to be a good sandbox game now.

    sandbox == grindfest?

Wow I musta never understood the term then, I'm glad more mmos are not sandbox based then.

My god has horns.... nah, I don't think he is real either.

Sandbox does not equal a grinding game. I have no clue why Rohan was suggested. Rohan is not a sandbox MMO.

    Blessings,

Yeah, I think Xephonics was being sarcastic with his response, but yeah..I'm not sure why a "grindfest" would be even mentioned in a thread about Sandbox games. Like mentioning peanut butter, when your talking to jelly....bad analogy?

I'm not sure if that was a joke, or what you meant by that...don't know if this makes me look stupid or if I'm one of many. Can you please clarify?

You can walk around on stations and they are huge and after that planets. should read the forums got tons of youtube vids of orbital flight walking around stations.

Don't let disambulation fool you.  Yeah, you'll be able to walk around in a space station and maybe planets some time after that but there no plans to include a ground based combat system or ground skills or anything like that.

You're still going to be stuck in your ship 95% of the time.

You never know they say they got plans for the game for the next 10 years space combat can only go so far.

Although you're right in one regard, Nisstyre, no one here is waiting 10 years for such a feature. If they did include such a feature, though, I'd give it a second look. It would, however, be the equivalent of them making an entirely new game.

If you can't stomach EVE, then you will propably run out of any good options. If which case start praying that Darkfall comes out someday.

    Pray hard and pray often.
