Puzzle Pirates (Underated mmorpg)

Graphics: 9/10
One of the first things people notice about this is the graphics. The graphics doesn't compare to the level of warcraft with flowing water and changing clouds, but comparing them both in the same class would be a bad idea to begin with. Firstly the game is offered entirely through the web and through java, to make it more accessible to people. This game is about gameplay and not about having the latest direct X drivers or voodoo cards. On that note I personally like the graphics as its a departure from the mundane hack and slash look of majority of mmorpgs.

Gameplay: 10/10
The puzzles have a purpose behind it. For example one aspect of the game is to man a boat and pillage on the seas. The different aspects of the game becomes most apparent in this puzzle. You have 4 basic stations, sailing, bilge, carpentry and navigating. When you are in a sea battle the sailing performance of players gives the navigator tokens to move the boat. The carpenters and bilgers make sure the boat is not full of holes and water. If there are too much water in the ship than less movement tokens are generated by the sailors and hence the navigator can move less. It is a very clever design of a set of cooperative puzzles. Other puzzles such as distllery, drinking, sword fighting and more. The other interesting aspect of the game is the economy of the game which is completly player run. A player has to forage the material, trade it to a shop, where laborers work to build the item requested. The game has price fluctuations almost like a real economy. The third biggest strength of the game is its social puzzle. Something that is no advertised but is crucial for a player to be successful in the game. Its a little hard to describe this and how different it is from other mmorpgs.

Community: 10/10
Of course everyone claims to have the best community, but one major difference about this games community is the accessibilty players have to the developers of the game. The developers throw tournaments, casually drop by for a drink at your table. The other strength of the community is that people throw themselves into piratey lingo with chanty contests and piratey limericks. I mean what mmorpg have you seen people speak in elvish or dwarvish?

Concept: 10/10
Amongst a myriad of hack and slash games the concept of this game is very refreshing. Very accessible to hardcore as well as casual players. I mean whats more fun than cute lego pirates, puzzles as addictive as tetris and a monkey on your shoulder?

Overall: 10/10
At $10 USD per month it might seem pretty steep, but its worth every last penny. I have played numerous mmorpgs from everquest, ragnarok, to others and this is the only mmorpg which has managed to keep my interest for a year. It is really something spectacular once you manage to immense yourself into the game.

I guess I am a little biased, considering I got a beta special which was 50 bucks for 2 years. If you get a year subscription is annually: $74.95 / year [ $6.25 / month]. Thats quite affordable. ::::17::

This game is by far underrated.  The community is extremely friendly and, for once in an MMORPG, you're actually left with a sense of accomplishment.  That's my favorite part of this game.  If you're sick of getting good at crafts and battle skills by just repeatedly clicking buttons on a menu, then PP will definitely please.  Each puzzle is different, and therefor there's a good deal more actual tactile action involved in each skill in the game, and everyone will actually have something they're good at.  Some people are expert carpenters, bilgers, sword fighters, or whatever-may-have-you, and it's all an actual matter of skill and not just how many times you've clicked "Craft."

    Yay.

    Yay.

Exactly. There is actual skill involved in the games. I personally dislike the hack and slash genre spawned by everquest.

Best game evar.  Lifetime Subscriber and I highly recommend the game.  Please do note demo accounts do not get all the features in the game, it is far bigger than it may first seem.
