What would be your perfect MMO?

DuilyonDuilyon Member Posts: 326

I was just going over each MMO I have ever played and was thinking about all the good and bad in them. Then i got to thinking what would be my perfect MMO and I came to this conclusion :D

I would take Lord of the Rings Onlien graphics, area design and character models, Vanguards huge seamless world, DDO dungeon design / traps, POTBS Ship combat and crew and Probably DDOs combat. Would also take Vanguards classes : D

For Crafting I would probably take Vanguards way of doing things and also their diplomacy system and SWG Housing!

To me that would the perfect MMO :D Why can't some developer just take all the good things about those MMOs and make one perfect game ; [

    Pre-CU SWG + Meaningful PvP

Good quests, loads of activities you can do, low level differentiation so pvp gap is low and people don't have 'barriers to grouping', npcs with character that everyone can recognize, appealling world to explore, enjoyable crafting, option to solo but not overly easy, maybe a combo combat system, freedom to select your moral path- what faction you are aligned with etc, involving activities perhaps that aren't grouping or raiding..

What I posted on another topic but also I'll say:

AC2 World+ Everquest depth+ DDOish kind of structure(low level divide and ease to grouping)+some other stuff..

Pre CU SWG with a mix of CU ranged perks and quests (minus legacy...god i hate those) from the NGE, in depth space and death penalties like in EVE.

Its all in my head, but way too complex to write down.  But it would be closer to EVE than any other current MMO.

Everything creates huge amounts of negativity on the internet, that's what the internet is for: Negativity, porn and lolcats.

My image of a perfect MMO, sadly, is more like a MMORTS than a MMORPG - that probably won't be out for a while. :(

  • MarLMarL Member UncommonPosts: 606

Planetsides gameplay, eve's economy and world system, neocrons crafting mods and stock market, 10six pvp base owning and building. There would be no quests, no npcs, no levling, pure economics, pvp, world domination, and politics.

So my game would be a pure pvp mmofpsrts where everything is player made and player destroyed.

    Own, Mine, Defend, Attack, 24/7

My perfect MMO? Deus Ex Online. Conspiracies everywhere, and no one you can trust. Would put Eve on second tier of the deviousness of foes. Plus, put a rest to all these dime a dozen high fantasy worlds. Want to hack; crack; talk geek; and fight/sneak and explore -- it's a videogame and is on a computer, and by God, a game about it all and it's impact on the world!

If it was made, I'd think I'd died and went to heaven.

    Cyberpunk. FTW!

winner...but add a bit of pvp in ceratin sectors

But if I had to make a game I would mix

Earth and Beyond (Questing / Trade / Economy / Crafting/ Ease of Play)

    RF Online PVP and graphics

Eve's End game style of play

And on a side note theres something to be said about WOW's attention to detail, customer support, updates and skill setups and loot tables that also make Diablo popular that I would include sparingly as to avoid the endless Raiding / Loot monger scenairo

Glad to see another thread like this, I'll just post from the old one I started.

    My perfect MMO would have:

    • No need for farming. This will break a game for me no matter how good it is. I should be able to make all the money I need without ever having to farm. The money doesn't have to be easy to get, I just need to be able to get it without farming. I want an economy in the game that isn't easily broken by people that try to hack the game or buy/sell in-game money.
    • The game should be secure. I don't want to see botting, power-leveling, game money buying/selling, or game account buying/selling.
    • Game servers should be maintained efficiently. Blizzard did a good job of this with WoW.
    • Good character customization. I want to be able to do more than just select between 5 faces and 10 hair styles, I want to actually be able to change my characters shapes.
    • Game mechanics that encourage grouping. I don't want a game where soloing is the best and fastest way to go. This is not to say that you shouldn't be able to solo effectively, you should be able to so that you can actually play when your buddies aren't online.
    • No reputation grinds. I'm not saying I don't want some sort of reputation system, but it would have to be incorporated in a way where there wasn't any grinding/farming involved.
    • Crafting that is not just a grind. I don't want to go running around gathering metal for 6 hours straight just to make my blacksmithing go up by 5 points.
    • More than two factions. This one really isn't too important. I'll play a game that has only two factions, but I'd prefer more.
    • A world that is expansive but doesn't require you to repeatedly travel long distances. I don't want to have to go all over the world over and over again.
    • When it comes to PvP I like the idea of having it be completely FFA. However, I want a PvP system that allows for the least amount of abuse (ex: ganking).
    • Extremely little dependence on gear. The sword doesn't make the man, the man makes the sword. I don't want gear to be the difference in a fight, it should exist to augment a character's stats, not be the only source of them.
    • A dynamic storyline that players become a part of. In my ideal game the political enviroment would constantly be changing.
    • Rarety in items. I don't want to walk into a city and see 20 guys standing around in all epics. If an item is labled "rare" it should be rare, none of this "Dragon A only drops common items but Dragon B will always drop a rare item". If it's rare, then it should never be guranteed.
    • Uniqueness in items. If an item is supposed to be one of a kind, it should be. Even if there's another item that is exactly the same but has a different name and looks different, I'd be fine as long as it was truly one-of-a-kind.
    • A highly customizable interface. I don't want to have to download addons just to get my UI to look the way I want.
    • No "end-game". I want to be able "to continually advance my character through one means or another"~JK-Kanosi. I never want to reach a point where there isn't anything left to do. This is not to say I don't want raid content.
    • Raid content that is possible for casual players to get through.

Now, I don't need all these things just to enjoy a game (obviously since there isn't any game that has all of this) but a game with all of this would have me hooked for life.

  • 1. AoC's combat and graphics

    2. Open world

    3. Maybe VG's crafting

    4. Complete world, where you can do whatever you want (sandbox)

I want an everygame.  In short, I want each element of my game to BE a game in itself.  The perfect MMO would be more like a hub for 50 or so OTHEr games...all which use the world presented in the MMO as their foundation.

I could write pages here...but I'll do the short version.  I want to be able to go off and build a farm and have it play like Harvest Moon.  I want the combat to feel like the great games....like DMC or Fable....something.  I want to build and decorate when I choose, and it should be as vast and enjoyable as the Sims.  I want each element of the game to be another game hidden beneath its crust.  Each part should stand alone and be enjoyable, and each part should be connected to all others.

That's basically Face of Mankind, without the base building. I think you would have liked that game.

Classless character growth were you develop your character int h direction you want to take it. No levels, they're not required as there is no end-game content. Gear dependency not as important as player skill. Meaningful PvP, harsh death penalty and player looting where you can take money and a token (or ear) that you can display to show your skill. A crafting system that is worthwhile, dungeon drops not as good as crafted items, ability to craft items that look different so we don't have 5000 people who look exactly the same.

I'll get back to you with more.

Call me nuts here but I don't mind levels, as long as there's not too many and I'm not forced to grind through them all. I suppose a sandbox style game would be fun, but since levels are a great carrot-on-the-stick for companies I doubt they'll be going anytime soon. What I'd rather see is smarter AI.

I want mobs (humanoid mobs at least) to travel in groups, especially if they're bandits or something. One of them might seperate to scout something out once in a while, that would be a great chance to take one down if I couldn't kill them all. If they were, say, a professional enemy army, the group would be a small regiment, maybe 5 or 6.

There should be a central place where the mobs spawn from, a camp or maybe multiple camps, that can be taken out by a group of players. The camps can respawn after a set time but I don't want Bandit Group A just appearing out of thin air behind a tree. The camps would obviously have more mobs and, depending on the enemy, some defences.

As for quests, I don't think they should give exp. It's just a way to force you to do them. Quests should be by choice, and if you do more quests for a specific NPC, he should start giving you some benefits or spreading the word about your deeds to other NPCs. I don't mind quests giving item rewards, I've found them to be useful...as long as they are on-par with crafted items of my level.

Crafting shouldn't be a grind and it should provide better items than that of quests or dungeons. That's really all I expect since I'm not much of a crafter, but when I do craft I hate the grinding and I hate seeing my items gather dust because no one will buy them because they just raided "teh awsum boss" last night and got "teh awsum stoof".

Raids should be different sizes, but probably no more than about 20. What bothers me alot is defeating the big bad boss in the game, then going back the next night and Ta-Da! There he is. What would be plausible at least is if you cleared a raid, killed the boss, but then the next night there's his apprentice who has taken leadership. He would have a different fight than the main boss, and if you killed him, there's the third in line the next time you go in. I suppose I can dream here, but it ruins the lore when you have the Lord of Evil or whatever on farm status...

Ah well that's all for now.

EDIT: Grouped PvP with a purpose (2 or 3 factions at war, no FFA because that attracts idiots), a large world but one that has easy means of travel, simple and smooth UI, good class custimization but make sure that the balance is there.

    --------------------------------------
A human and an Elf get captured by Skaven. The rat-men are getting ready to shoot the first hostage with Dwarf-made guns when he yells, "Earthquake!" The naturally nervous Skaven run and hide from the imaginary threat. He escapes. The Skaven regroup and bring out the Elf. Being very smart, the Elf has figured out what to do. When the Skaven get ready to shoot, the Elf, in order to scare them, yells, "Fire!"

    • Oblivions skill system, or at least the idea; lots of the skills need to be redone to work in a MMO.
    • Guild Wars' tactical skill system, mix it with Oblivions and take the best of the two.
    • Guild Wars's graphics; most computers can handle them and they still look awesome.
    • LotRO's quest and storyline.
    • CoH's/CoV's character customization.
    • Guild Wars' PvP.

Post-apocalyptic setting, no idea which game feature that. Probably forgot some aspect of the game, but that's all I could came up with currently.

I never thought of this but it's an excellent idea... actually, when I think about it, it's the same as EVE's missions. This should be implmented as it reduces the need for a level grind.

I'm still on the fence abut FFA PvP. It used to annoy me when someone in my faction in WoW would ninja my resource node as I couldn't kill them. But I agree it would just be a gankfest, look at AoC.

    These are great ideas too.

If there were no griefers, a completely FFA you-can-kill-anyone-anywhere system would be great. But of course, there are griefers. For this reason, and this reason alone, I would want pvp to be completely seperate from pvp. I find this a better solution than "turning on" pvp if you want to be able to fight people, I think that system is truly flawed.

I don't claim to know everything about pvp, but I think having a system where pvp and pve are completely seperate will make most people happy. You won't be able to kill people that go after the same things as you, but at least you won't ever be ganked. Some people don't like pvp at all, so they could just stick to pve without any problem. The people that do enjoy pvp won't have to worry about complainers or people that hate it because they'll be in a seperate place.

I do think that pvp is an important part of an MMO and shouldn't be something thrown together the last second.
