I bought AoC.
Ugh, what a golden turd of a game and a community to match the turd reference, though not golden.
Got through the tutorial twice, didnt like my first character.
I was having issues and asked for help.
Got very rude responses and couldn't get it to work right even though I meet the recommended specs.
Eventually got a rude tell saying that my comp sucked and I should go play something else, that was the basic message of the tell, it was alot ruder but whatever.
I log out, uninstalled AoC and got me cash back.
Came home and had a email from SOE. Uck, no i don't wanna play SWG anymore, leave me alone....
wait.
2 MONTHS of EQ & EQ2 for free. ok.
Best thing ever!
I made, on a whim, a Ratoga Brigand.
Went out today and bought the full game. The class and race combo clicked for me.
I am having even more fun than i had in WoW. The community is great too.
Anyway.
They told me to leave. They tell alot of folks to leave in AoC.
I did and discovered EQ2, and i couldn't be happier about the choice.
Maybe the players of AoC instead of being asses to players who are trying to enjoy that game actually try to help folks out in they are having issues.
But it doesn't matter anymore.
EQ2 is very very fun.

Umm, you made one mistake. The two months gives you the full game all the way through Rise of Kunark as well as all the rewards. So you didn't need to buy anything.
At any rate, welcome to the game.
What a bunch of asshats im glad I didnt get AOC. Id figure since its an 18+ rating people would be more mature lol, wtf.
But yeah I took up the 2 free months and I love this game, I agree I like this game more that WoW I wish I started playing this game a lot sooner.
This is why I play Vanguard...

Glad you found an MMO that you enjoy. I might give EQ2 another try.
Very good choice. I'm waiting for my collector's addition to come in so I can start over fresh. My old druid is going to retire, but I'm coming back!

Yeah I am waiting for the trial to come out.

Yeah, EQ2 really is a great game, and very much underappreciated, although I think that is still mostly due to peoples old perceptions of the game even though it's changed immensely, for the better, since release. I have been playing EQ2 since early beta, minus a year+ spent in WoW, although I recently left EQ2, probably for good although I'm keeping my sub open so I can pop in now and then.
It really is a great game though. HUGE world that is always growing, GREAT community where you very rarely find the kind of ass-hatery that is commonplace in WoW (and AoC from what I hear), LARGE selection of classes, all of which are actually pretty well balanced and fun to play, and there really is something for every kind of player, there are many, many, group dungeons, tons of solo content, and a solid raiding scene. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend EQ2 to anyone that is looking for a very solid MMO.
teddyboy420 i see you play in the WAR Beta....... DAMN YOUUUUUUUU!!!!
42 hours ha? not bad... not too shabby....
I totally agree with you

Actually at release Vanguard had the most elite and rude community I ever saw in a MMO, much worse than AOC. Unfortunately this now seems normal in new MMO's, and I've even seen a bit of it in EQ2. There are still helpful people in all games, by the jerks are a lot more noticable.
Its the go back to WoW syndrome, which I think is caused by peoples insecurities in face of the juggernaut that is WoW. My response is always the same, as long as you are having fun, the game is great and who cares what others think.
I always thought EverQuest II deserved the sub numbers that World of Warcraft has. It is better in every conceivable way in my opinion. It doesn't make sense, I guess it's just a twist of fate.
Vanguard, by early next year will really be getting a lot of attention. They ae waiting to do a re-launch, and this time they aim to impress (and for good reason).
Age of Conan was designed for consoles, end of story. I hear their community makes WoW's community look like Ivory League.
Welcome to EQ II. I would suggest the Role Playing servers, even if you don't RP. Great, awesome, wonderful community of folks.
I miss the good ol' days when nerds were actually intelligent.
I joined a RP server, and very pleased with the choice.

Been contemplating playing EQII for quite awhile now, but have been burned by SOE in the past I didn't wanna give them a chance again! However in recent light of Funcom's idiocy they now hold the worst spot and SOE has been bummed up on my list. At the same time SOE gives me 2 free months with all expansion to play their game and convince me to like them again, and well its working! So depending on how far I get during this free time and the word on how close WAR beta is looming after, I just may subscribe for more time!
I am having a really good time, and in the 2+ yrs I hadn't played EQII has made amazing strides and I'm quite impressed.
Eh, quit your whining and go play something else....
Oh, wait... nevermind... :P
Glad you enjoy it. It's all about what's fun to you. That's the most important thing. Well, and friends. Ok, having friends play with you and fun to them, no, to you, no, wait, ummm...
Awwww, screw it, I'm going to go play something else...

I do like EQ2, and am keeping one of my subscriptions active. As for AoC's community, I've never experienced something really awful, but I've purposely stayed on the PvE servers. PvP has a whole lot of mental midgets, who seem to equate self worth with ganking. If I had more time I'd play both games.
Coming back to EQ2 as well, Im having fun, the thing is though, I never tried RoK, so I really enjoyed the starter RoK zone up to level 20.
The problem starts then, I ve already worn out the old EQ2 zones leveling up several characters, and the content there is mind numbingly boring to me, I wish I could just skip to the level 70+ RoK content that I have never experienced. I have managed to level up a 39 fury, which I planned on betraying later on. But getting to level 70+ and getting back to RoK is going to be a pain for me.
What's hilarious about this is how my experience went the completely different way.
Right before AoC came out, I decided to try and go back to EQ2 for a bit. I installed it, patched it, reactivated my account. Guess what. The game wouldn't get past the character creation process. For some odd known reason I have never solved, my pc did NOT like EQ2 anymore. I even asked for help in the tech forums. I got one reply telling me to post my dxdiag info. Haven't heard from them since.
So... off came EQ2 to make room for AoC. Guess what, AoC runs just fine on my PC. Go figure. I'm not dissing the game, I do like EQ2, but I am not happy with customer service or the technical aspects of a game 3 years old.
Personally, I'm just playing AoC to tide me over till WAR launches. Then its buh bye to all these precursors.
Tried EQ2 for the first 4 months and wasn't happy so I moved on but I'm glad to see so many enjoying it now but for me I'll stick with Lotr.
A year now and I'm happy (and with a lifetime acct). People criticize the pvp but I came for it and still enjoy it daily and the only thing that will sour me me on it in the future is Turbine. I'm happy for anyone that's found the game they love.
btw: lot's of folks left lotr for AOC and quite a few have returned but that's the world of mmo's. Some will never find their niche. Good luck to them though.
I never had any problems with the AoC community personally, but I was aware of a lot of muppetry going on in the channels. It's the same in every new MMO unfortunately. A lot of those asshats will move on (or hopefully back to wherever they came from).
Still, I gave up on AoC. It's a promising game but I really didn't like it as much as I do EQ2. I got a Tempest to level 40, started my tradeskills, and left in disgust. The tradeskill system is awful. I missed EQ2 crafting I guess.
So I'm back in Norrath. Loving EQ2 with a newly rolled Coercer (a class I've never tried). It sure is the most solid MMO out there imho. And the community is certainly better than most.
Currently returned to Norrath after disliking Hyboria.
I'm glad to see new people trying EQ2. It really is a great game, and definitely the most complete MMORPG on the market today loaded with great lore, numerous races/classes to choose from, tons of content, superb dungeons, and the most thrilling raiding content ever seen in a MMORPG not named EQ.
It may be a bit overwhelming to some new players since there's so much to do. You could honestly roll a character and play him/her to 80 and still not experience all the wonders EQ2 has to offer. This is how huge the game is.
My advice is for all the people who troll these boards wondering if they should give EQ2 a try to just do it. I can guarantee at least 7-10 new people who try the game for the first time would enjoy it. Even those who was in beta and played the game back at release and quit shortly after, "like me" you should give it another try. What do u have to lose?

Their loss, our gain.
Welcome to EQ2, Maniac.
hey guys, I read there are so many expansions (4 ?) EQ2 has, should I buy all of them to enjoy the game or I can just buy the last expansion ? do I still need the first game client ?
for example (wow as my first MMORPG with expansion) : you can buy regular WoW to play the game, but minus new races, lv cap to 60, and old zone Azeroth. You have to buy The burning crusade expansion for 70 lv cap, new races, new crafting, and new zones etc
how does Expansion work in EQ2 ?
Iam playing AoC atm (lv 71 Demonologist), I decided to play only 1 MMORPG for the last time, but I can't choose which game it is.
I never play EQ2 and Vanguard. Which is better overall, EQ2 or Vanguard ?
thanks in advance
Hey Spellcore.
Having played both EQ2 and VG, EQ2 definitely is a better choice for numerous reasons. It's loaded with more content, has much more depth, it's much more polished, more population, and the game is just alot more fun to play.
You only need to purchase the latest expansion, "Rise of Kunark" which includes all the previous expansions in one bundle.
Now, keep in mind both EQ2 and VG play a bit differently than WoW and AoC. Both of those games are very easy to level up. Eq2 actually makes you work a little bit to progress through the game. Of course you can solo to 20 fairly easy, but once u hit 20, doing quests and group dungeon runs are alot more rewarding, loaded with adventure, and the experience flows much better than soloing. Basically what I'm trying to say is, EQ2 and even VG are more of a grouping based MMORPG, whereas AoC and WoW doesn't really require you to group much, less even with AoC.
Hope i answered your questions.

Sorry you had that bad experience in AOC. Actually during my time there, the people I talked to one on one were pretty cool. The OOC chat was pretty bad though, from my experience with other games that is not so uncommon.
EQ2 has been out a lot longer, so more polished and tons of content. My only beef is the graphics but this is very subjective. I accept that my aesthetics may not be same as everyone else's.
Anyway, enjoy your time in EQ2. I made a ratonga brigand which is kind of bypassing my problem with not liking how some of the other avatars look. Ratongas are so cute!

thanks for your reply oakthornn
Yeah I was really interested in EQ2 and VG after played WoW and LotRO for a while, tho I found AoC as a newer game to test out first. But now I think I will give VG or EQ2 a shot.
am I too late to play EQ2 (since it's been released for 3-4 years) compared to VG (newer one, 2007) ?
oh btw I might post in a wrong thread, Iam not trying to highjack OP's thread. Perhaps we can discuss this in my own thread if you don't mind ? here's the link : http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/187360
