I was reading an interview from IGN about the development of Fallout 3. The article mentioned that Interplay retained the rights to Fallout mmorpg and was currently developing it. Has anyone heard anything on the subject ?
Personally, I would love to play in a post-appocolyptic mmorpg... how cool would that be. Plus Fallout is practically the best rpg ever having basically invented the format. I was so excited over the possiblity, I dusted off my copy of Fallout 2 and played it tonight.

Hello Admriker444,
Welcome to MMORPG.com
I agree Fallout was one of the most innovative, revolutionary, RPGs ever made. Alas, there will never be a Fallout MMORPG. The parent company has already laid off many workers, and is close to bankruptcy. They bombed on making Fallout 2 (the RPG).
You might want to try playing Anarchy Online. It recently has taken some elements from Fallout (like how you have dialogue with many NPCs). AO also, sorta, kinda, has a post appocolyptic world. There are a few areas straight out of Fallout - like the Junkyards, the Wastelands (in the far northern part of the world). And my favorite, the toxic sewage system underneath the mega city Omni-1.

A couple months a go Bethesda got the rights to develop Fallout 3 from Interplay who owns the rights to the Fallout franchise. I would be pretty happy if they get this game out. I have owned all 3 games. (Fallout 1, Fallout 2 and Fallout Tactics)
That is correct, that they sold the singleplayer game licence to Bethesda, but kept the MMO licence to themselves.
Unfortunatly... It seems they kept it more as a lucky charm, and not so much as a happenign project. What it seems like, is that IF they get back on thie rfeet, the economical situaiton evens out, and the company can go back to producing things, and not just lying on the ground like a wounded deer, then they want to have the right to do an Fallout MMO, and not given it away.
Chanses are slim that will ever happen.
Only game I wait for right now: Imperator.
Go Mythic!

I have some hopes for the Fallout series, since Bethesda did a pretty solid job on Morrowind.
It's also worth pointing that the "original" Fallout game (and actually better according to my taste, even with Commodore 64 graphics!), Wasteland, may see a remake or a new version, as the original designer Bryan Fargo has re-aquired the rights to this along with the currently in-development Bard's Tale remake.
DUDE! Bard's Tale is one of my most favorite RPGs ever! (after Ultima 0 to 9, the Bard's Tale series was the next most successful RPG series ever made.)
Do you have any links to more information about this Bard's Tale remake you mentioned???

The recently announced Fallen Earth looks pretty close to a Fallout style post apocalyptic world.

Also, its already got 3 years of development and stable testing servers from what i've heard.
Hmm..... looks like the new Bard's Tale will just be a regular RPG for PC and console (PS2 and XBox).

No Bard's Tale MMORPG?
*sniff*
Heartland, thanks again for the heads up about a new Bard's Tale game being made. No way I know about it!
I like how their main site has some new typical Bard's Tale humor:

AdmRiker444,
Head on down to your local newstand/magazine store and buy the October 2004 issue of Computer Gaming World.
On the very bottom of page 30 is a news item about Fallout 3. Alas, it looks so far like it will just be a stand alone RPG type game. Interplay is sub-contracting a studio called Bethesda to make Fallout 3. No go on a Fallout MMORPG though.
[And the magazine also mentions there will be a:
- Baldur's Gate 3
- Neverwinter Nights 2

If there was a Fallout mmorpg coming out you might as well lock me in my room and throw away the key, there IS a post-apoc mmorpg in the makings called Fallen Earth but I have a feeling that's going to crash and burn. I'm just not very optimistic about it.
Fallen Earth looks very promising but also far from being finished. Lets hope it'S not among the next MMORPGs getting canned.
