to what extent is the instancing???

I have never been a fan of instanced games and I would like to know, how much of this game is instanced?

Would I be able to meet up with a whole guild of people and seige cities/castles or can only a maximum amount of people do it?

Is PvP world wide, or in set areas/instances?

Basically, how is this game played? Are you only with a handful of people or is the whole server in one "world"?

It's instanced everywhere. If I had to  compare it to any game I would say it's like EQ2, if you ever played that. On PVP servers, it's worldwide except for the 3 main towns of each region. Anywhere else you're not safe. If the maximum number of people are in a zone, then it creates "Lone Lands" Alpha or "Lone Lands" Lambda.

I always chose Lambda instances if it was available. "We're Lambda Lambda Lambda and, Omega Moo's."

The game is zoned with loading screens between areas.  In the major public areas, there are generally a couple instances at any given time, but each instance will have a decent number of people (you'll generally run into people everywhere).  It's similar to how EQ2 runs their zones.

So far, major sieges are limited to 48v48, but there are technical limitations to that right now.  The client needs some serious optimization before that many people can reasonably participate.  The lead developer also mentioned 300v300 battles later on, but as I said, the technology is struggling with even the lower limit at the moment.

PvP is world-wide on the PvP servers only.  On a PvE server right now you won't see much PvP.  There are minigames, but it's rare to find enough people queue'd up to do it.  There's at least one PvP zone, but currently no real reason to go there.  With the additions coming to PvP soon(tm), it may or may not become a more common sight on PvE servers.

The world is a little disjoint, though in most areas it doesn't really bother me that much.  I always run into other players everywhere, so the world doesn't feel barren despite the zoning and instancing.  Just make sure you find a server with a decent population (any of the servers there at launch).

Everything is instanced. Each zone, or playfield as they call it sometimes, have 3-20+ copies of itself on the server. And if the one you are in is removed due to a lack of players in it you will be disconnected and forced to watch 7 commercials again...

I agree it is heavy instanced. Personally I like that it is since some zones can become crowded quickly.  e.i. cistern.

i don't have fixed numbers cause there is no classic /who tool taht lest you see who is in your zone. but form my impression its in the 20-50 players range per instance before a new instance is created. numbers also might be different depending on size of the zones.
