According to Tasos in his last 2 updates the community can expect soon :-
"a few interviews to various mainstream media"
"a comprehensive video sometime in the next few weeks","using actual Darkfall gameplay footage"
"a couple of magazine interviews"
"a couple of online interviews"
"a couple of updates that are forthcoming"
"a Q&A journal"
"some specialized updates for the core Darkfall community
"some community members here in early-mid July"
Comments
I wouldn't hold my breath for it, to be honest..
I doubt really much this will ever see the light of the day!

Well if they do all that, then I am going to believe in Darkfall. These things would guarantee that there actually is a game after all.
But, however much I wish the game came up to the expectations, I cannot see us getting anything more than another D&L. If we get anything at all.
Magazines are another kind of mainstream media, you know
*sigh*
Before people start to mis-quote Tasos here is what he said.

Promises suck
The chances of him fulfilling two of these eight things is so unlikely. I highly doubt that he can keep these promises, which he has failed to do in the past.
Only time will telll and July is apparently a key month, where many things will, or will not, be happening.

In response to Friction's post, seems to me Polarization quoted Tasos pretty accurately, but just for the record I went ahead and updated the quotes with a bit more info.
In the end, Tasos has promised the above items in the near future, however you'll note in some cases he's left himself some wiggle room.

Yeah, seems to be a lot of "wiggling" and "giggling"...

Ultimately the way he says it gives me the felling that if this game is really still in production, its in a very early stage....

I want Darkfall to exist as much as the next person but let's get real here...
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO THROW TOGETHER A GAMEPLAY VIDEO??? These are supposedly professional programmers here. 2 or 3 people can do this in 1 day. Are you telling me they are THAT busy coding that they can't put 2 people on it for 1 day?
I mean who needs advertising right? They aren't trying to make money here or anything.
I've followed this for years, I've read all this for years. Same excuses, same language, same result.
I just am really starting to believe this game is nothing more than an investment scam.
Tecmo Bowl.
I don't really think its an investment scam. I think its a clever way for freelance, nobodymen, to earn some early cred to get into either a major MMO company more easily.....or to open the way for them to get employed in marketing somewhere based on how successful their marketing approach is even when backed by so little.
I'm leaning toward "group of new programmers and such that just want their foot in the door and decided that the best way to do that was to talk about a game they 'might' make and show some basic screenshots or simple videos of what they can do, and then allow the public to virally transmit this widely so that it reaches the eyes of all the major players, thus, allowing them a shot at getting a real job far easier than the average joe because they have already proven to be decent with code and GREAT at selling an ideal."
Good question ,apparently it takes the developers 1 month to go from "looking at releasing" a video to of only just "started collecting in-game footage" for that video.
May 23rd
We’re looking at releasing a comprehensive video sometime in the next few weeks. We’re doing this ourselves and our first priority is working on the game, so we can’t just slap something together in a couple of days.
June 20th
We've started collecting in-game footage for a video update which is taking a while being low in the immediate priorities list, but moving along.
So they are so busy working on the game they don’t have much time to show us the game, Because they don’t consider it a high enough priority at the moment.
But they manage to find time for things like this which are apparently higher on there priority list
"We made a Darkfall presentation at a local college with a videogame development program while there to recruit some junior QA personnel."
"We’re expecting some community members here in early-mid July,"
"There have been a couple of magazine interviews"
"and we’ll try for a Q&A a journal, or something along those lines for next week."
I personally don’t think any of those things should be higher on the priority list then releasing the comprehensive gameplay video.
Q&A Next Wednesday
We now have a definite timeframe for one of the eight promises.
The devs of Darkfall could probably care less what the community wants. They know a good game will attract more players than a polished over advertised MMO ever will. What are they worrying about?
I mean seriously if you threw the best game together with features people have been longing for, why would you go out of your way to hype this game when you already know the game itself kicks ass?
Imho, not managing the community produces the opposite as you are implying. The game is uber hyped. Why? Because as they never cared to show anything abotu it, each of us have in our minds what each feature is. Now... how will anyone release a game that actually covers everyone's private hype? Imo, it's impossible.
if you think we, the players, understand the features equally I invite you to read the DFO forums and see the discussions. Each person has his/her own "vision"on how each feature should be. Just to name one: sea combat.
By not showing us thing or careing about manage us (the community) they are creating huge hype.
Worst, each time the release some information it's jsut written info that speaks of the marvelous of everything.
IF DFO release, I think the most hard thing the game will have to survive will be the hype.
And adding to all these is the fact they aren't in a beta where non employees are testing the game so they aren't recieving customers' feedback.
Of course, DFO may end up been the best game ever and the features will cover so much of what each of us is expecting that the game will survive.
And, imho, Aventurine do hype this game (just that they hype it with only text and nothing else to back up what they say). Tasos is a hype machine.
*sigh*

Just wanted to add even more clarity to your excellent post, Kyleran.
Of course DF care bout the community, not sure that that is here though..
Advertising costs money they maybe don't have at the moment, based on the lack of quality MMOs available at the moment , anything vaguely good will sell itself.
Not sure they are worrying they just seem to be busy, will the small number of staff they have understandable.
Most of the hype is generated by the so called "community" based on release content I don't believe they have. They have responded posted a limited number of forum posts, set up a web-site that outlines the game , posted infrequent updates, but if you believe they have over hyped on the ammount of content they have released you are wrong.
The level of hype generated on any game that may be half decently coded and having features that work shows the desperate MMO community no reflection on DF.

Sorcery must persist, the future is the Citadel
The list of features is pretty much what we have seen piece meal in a lot of games, a number of MUDs have most if not all these features minus the graphical aspect which can be difficult to address.
From a coding perspective I see no problem in getting all those features coded from a bits and bytes angle, integrating adequate graphics and the networking aspects into something efficient and playable is the greatest challenge. Good design up front helps and it looks to me like they have had 3 stabs at this sticking with an approach from 2003 onwards.
A lot of what is said about features is exaserbated by fans and sticking with what is on the official site has not changed greatly, so Tasos being confident in their developing product, is not Hype it may be over confidence or arrogance but not hype.
I guess the problem with the whole picture here is that the code is feature complete the package around that that makes it look like a playable game is something else.
I can't disagree with you to any great extent as you seem too sensible and you arguments from one perspective are solid... for these forumns. But the hype is maintained by disalusioned MMOers.... And the fact that a sandbox with this variety of features is not available and is what a good number of people want is self generating as far as hype goes(so to some extent DF are responsible for the list not the ongoing furore though.
The scope of the DF site has not changed that much as we can all see from the lack of updates. I love the bit that talks about PvP being only a small part of the game, and that is what holds my attention the most. Strategic/ Expansive world/ Great feature list .... We all have different view on what the game should be.
