Why is it taking so long? WHY?

I'm as amazed as any of the feature list sounds great!

But what is the reality here?

How big dev team do they have? Any names there we know from before? What have they done before?

What kind of budget do they have? What kind of numbers we talking about? A couple millions? 10's of millions? (I know money isn't the answer for everything, but just for comparison).

What about their partners?

If someone could answer these questions please. Thank you!

Want the long answer or the short answer?

Short answer -- they made the typical newby developer mistake and bit off more than they can chew and are now choking on all of it.

Alright. Thats what I was afraid of.. I havent really been following this games development much I saw a video with naval battles and some combat a couple years back and read the feature list. I thought they maybe got something there, but since then almost nothing has happened. They still laying low..

Makes me sad.. Thanks for the answers Sayitwithme!

No other developer have tryed a seamless world with naval combat and mounted combat (at the same time) before.

Then add that the whole world are handcrafted + skills working without restrictions. Some other devs tell us it takes time to program the 13 abilitys a normal class have in a normal static MMO. Then think of the time it takes to program 500 skilla and 500 spells!

This is why it takes so much time.

Or they just mess with us and its just vaporware.

There's actually a term for that called "Glossyware"

I just invented a term specifically for Darkfall which is much more appropriate, “Flufferware”.

The developer is Cornered Rat Software and the game is WWIIOL/Battleground Europe.  It not only has naval combat, infantry combat, and vehicle combat - but also adds air combat.  All in a seamless world.   Launched in 2001 and you can still play it today.

Why DF is taking so long has been answered.  They bit off more than they could chew.  Developing a game is hard.  Harder when your team is made up of noobs.  Lets hope they have learned a great deal over the years.

When it releases, we will see what counts as progress.

I dont have to provide any info, because neither Razorwax nor Aventurine have developed a game before.  That means they are noobs.  Doesnt mean they cant program or create art - it means they are new to making games...because they are.  Fair enough?
