Right now at SWG is the 5th Anv of the game and the supposed high point of the game year is supposed to be highly celebrated and looked at as the best celebration ever.... on Tuesday the 24th of June 2008 it was bugged the Yoda and Emperor Statues didn't distrubte the gifts and Vader or Leia didnt hand out the badges its was bugged and wasnt working so they pulled Empire Day down till yesterday... So fare complaint after complaint has been pouring on the main forums calling for heads to roll.. the gifts were in the topic threads as well. A pair of goggles identical to the 4th Anv Goggle only change its a different skin and thats it no socket nothing a rehash paste & copy crap item... next it a movie poster of the Empire Strikes Back, problem here is that last years Anv it was a New Hope Poster and it wasnt No Trade and it was sized right .. this year the poster frame doesnt match like ANH does and the poster is a No Trade Item for some idiotic reason ... and the special badge for the 5th was revealed as only 1 person per hour can get this badge (who was smoking crack at the time?)
So far the long list of complaints about griefers, afkers, lder, spammer, and noob (s) and alts only getting the badge..
Here Ill let you all decide here how SOE has once again screwed the player base.......

I think they got what they deserved. Supporting a buggy, unfun mess of an MMO, developed by people who hold them in contempt, is a bad thing.
Enough already, let this game die.
If only.
I am really surprised that deadmeat allowed this to go off the way it did. Sad and shameful!
they don't get upset and leave over a huge change in the game but they are fuming over a stupid fricken badge?
If I'm not mistaken the random badge idea was Swede's and was one of the reason's why the event was delayed from going live by a day or two. Deadmeat should just have said no we'll go with it as is, no random badge giveaway, and been done with it. I know they say hindsight is 20/20 but anyone taking just 10 minutes to think about how players react to situations would have seen this coming.
Until you cancel your subscription, you are only helping to continue the cycle of mediocrity.
they deserve it for doing buisness with such a crappy company
To be honest are people stupid enough to sit at the keyboard for a once in the hour chance for.....let me me get excited a badge, no offence to badge collecters who may get cheap frills from this sort of thing, but i have to say this is the worst form of mmo entertainment i have ever seen.
That is not content, but utter lazy shambolic excuses for player content good luck to the afk generation, i hope it causes server wide failure but thats not likely as there are not enough players remianing to cause it.
This sort of crap only serves to prove how bad things are, and they are bad i hope its the final year for swg in a kind way im sick of cringing, the game should wrap up now and die the honourable death.
Personaly I went to the area, got my painting, bought for 1credit each the buff food/drink and left, I could care less about standing around to get a badge. That said there is a segment of the population that really wants to collect each and ever badge in the game, so that what they do log in just before each hour to try and get that badge.
"Do you think SWG players got the shaft for the 5th Anv?" Frankly, when havn't players of this putrid piss poor excuse for a Star Wars themed game gotten the shaft?
/slap everyone still supporting this project.
Yes, I still play, and I've been accused by more than one person around here of being a "fanboi" who "worships the company" -- both of which are bullshit, mind you, but hey, I understand it's a "you're-either-with-us-or-against-us" around here.
That said, the developers colossally fucked up the 5th anniversary bash. When you make a badge (which is content for some) subject to a once-an-hour random-draw lottery which can be spoiled by exploiters and AFK players, something is very wrong.
So I started to walk into the water. I won't lie to you boys...I was terrified. But I pressed on, and as I made my way past the breakers, a strange calm came over me. I don't know if it was divine intervention or the kinship of all living things, but I tell you, Jerry, at that moment ... I was a marine biologist.
Yeah, it's an amazingly stupid and poorly thought out idea... but the part that gets me is, how is an amazingly stupid and poorly thought out idea a suprise from SoE in general and SWG devs specificaly? You find something enjoyible about the game, ok .... I supose, but you expect competence from SWG devs? Now your being crazy!
...the people complaining are just a vocal minority. In truth, SOE has had MILLIONS of people join for the 5th year celebration and they all agree that the NGE is the greatest thing ever made.
...You just can't find these people because they're put off by your bad attitudes....
(/sarcasm)
Maybe you didn't get the memo but AFK players are no longer exploiting. SOE doesn't care enough about the game to do anything about exploiting so they made it so that it's no longer against the rules.
Well..One an hour.On all but maybe 3 servers, that means every person could get one in a few days ,and on some a few hours.
Apparently, the badge is not as 'random' as the devs would lead players to believe, and it appears that the location of where a toon stands greatly increases the odds of getting a badge. Here is a quote from a player named sajj -
Wow...was using a random number generator too hard for the current SWG development team?

Perhaps YOU didn't get the memo. Being AFK, in and of itself, is not exploiting. However, being AFK in the area is preventing people from getting the badge. That's why I said AFKers AND exploiters. Reading is fundamental.

What is ironic is that we all agree that the random badge is "not a good idea" for a 5th year gift. I wonder how Chris wil react to this feedback from the community? Well off I go back to bliss in Eve.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAA!!
Yes, I have anger issues. They taste like chocolate bunnies.
I agree. People that stick with this game deserve what they are getting. We don't just say the game sucks for no reason. IT DOES. It's a frigon horse with 4 broken legs, someone needs to put the thing out of its misery
I gotta say....
Serves em right, really. I mean, this is a team of people who routinely sit around and invent new ways to give their fans the once over. Every week we have something new that its players are mad about. If the lot of them haven't taken the hint by now...they deserve little more than having SOE walk down to their house and punch them in the face and demand compensation for it.
Its kind of depressing, though, to think that the game has found its player base devolved into a group of lemmings who WOULD sit in a pile around something in the hopes of attaining "content" which is little more than text on a screen.
"Hay guys, are we having fun yet!? I've been sitting in the same place for 6 hours! WOOHOO! "
Seriously, it has all the excitement and joy of waiting at the mall for a book release....sans the 8-12 hours of joy you would get from actually being able to read the book. Ick. Much as I would never return to WoW...at least its events were pretty dang fun. Shooting off fireworks, taking down Omen, showing an orphan all the neat sites of the world (like a volcano! I made up my OWN version of the quest.), battling the headless horseman, and hitting on the town guards were all kind of neato. Active too, did I mention that?
A little strange as well....but maybe that was just me using the perfume on myself to make the men guards smile. I felt pretty.
Either way, THIS as an event is pretty lame. I could probably do better with a text based game, honestly. That they couldn't even get THAT to work properly is, well....expected. *sigh* I really wish I could be surprised. Its status quo, at this point, for them to screw up elements of the game which have worked perfectly fine for years.
But it used to be. For the first 4.5 years of the game's life it was against the terms of service. It's only now that SOE doesn't care enough to pay for the GMs it takes to police their TOS that it's "legitimate".

Going AFK was exploiting? Not doing anything except being AFK was exploiting? I must have missed that, because I've gone AFK at one time or another for four years and never been accused of exploiting.

whether or not it's in the TOS or was, doesn't matter. it has never been considered sploiting to do anything AFK.
it's never been considered exploiting to afk grind entertainers, for example...something that's been going on since the hologrind started.
the only thing that is considered an exploit is using 3rd party software to run your character as a bot while afk....macroexpress and the like.
