You call that content? Dude, that was a few books with nothing worth playing. Let's see, eriador was a joke quest zone. They added no new items worth getting. The raid zones were crap, all there is to do is Helegrod which you can craft befter items. They added nothing of actually use. Book 10 was so boring, I beat that in like 2hours.

Look at World Of Warcraft, they added free content for 3years and then had one expansion and since then they've added MORE free content. SO that's 4years of free content plus one expansion.

2years after LOTR and they already have an expansion you have to waste money on. Not too mention, the amount of updates Blizzard did in 2months is equivalent to what Turbine did in 12months. Blizzard released patches monthly that UPDATED the game a lot. Like adding PVP, new 40 man raids, like MC, BWL, AQ, Naxx etc.

What do you get with turbine? A useless level 30-40 zone and some book quests... oh and a raid dungeon that sucks more ass then Helegrod. Ya thanks Turbine, I'm totally going to resubscribe right now...
I quit that game 1 month after my free month because there was nothing to do. I had all the etched jewellry by the time I hit level 50 and already had the best gear in the game... talk about epic fail if you can finish a game in 3weeks.

Best possible advertisement possible for LOTRO right there.

    See you in the dream..

Haha yea thats one of the reasons Ive been playing this game for over a year... theese kind of people moved on a long time ago and the community is now one of the best :)

great example of why LotrO is not just a WoW clone!

book 9: Added 24-man raid and a 6-man instnace + a huge new zone with hundreds of quests..

book 10: Added the city of annunimas with 3x 6-man instances. Also reputation-system with 2 huge public dungeons. And session play with Troll, Ranger and chicken

book 11 (the biggest): Expanded 2 zones with the High pass in misty mountain and Tal bruinen in Trollshaws. New 12-raid (with the best rewards in the game)... New public dungeon Goblin Town (huge)... Housing (personal and kin) with 4 different homesteads...

book 12: Added a PvMP dungoen the Delving of fror and new PvP gear.. also gave us the outfit system and barber shops.. Angmar had a revamp which made the zone much better..

book 13: A huge new zone, Forochel was added with alot of new stuff... New monster play class: The defiler to give Creeps more healing... and fishing was introduced with titles, trophies and so on..

book: 14 To be released in July... Not much info yet but it will have 3 new dungeons and also alot of changes to PvMP (nerfing CC mostly)

and the comes the payed expansion Mines of Moria which promisises: 10 new leves, 2 new classes (The warden and The rune keeper), 3 new Zones: Moria as a HUGE dungeon, Eregion and Lothlorien... several new raids and dungeons... Legendary weapons... and much more!

    If WoW = The Beatles
    and WAR = Led Zeppelin
    Then LotrO = Pink Floyd

Returned using the trial and my opinion of the game really hasn't changed that much. It's a very decent release that can be fun for a while, but doesn't grab my attention for long. I'm sure there are many reasons for others to enjoy it, but for me everything just feels too empty. With it being a franchise game, there are no real plot surprises, there simply can not be any end-game to speak of, ... And I still think the character and monster models are pretty lame.

AC (retired); EQ (retired); DAoC (retired); Horizons (retired); EQII (retired); CoH (retired); AC II (tested); Lineage II (beta); Neocron (tested); Saga of Ryzom (beta); SWG (retired)...

As for the content updates... what they've done really isn't a big deal at all, compared to certain other games.

great example of why LotrO is not just a WoW clone!

book 9: Added 24-man raid and a 6-man instnace + a huge new zone with hundreds of quests..

Helegrod is stupid easy, you can 11 man it all the way until the last boss with ease, 24 man my ass. The 6 man is easy too, and the new zone is 85% water... Do you know why they chose a zone that would be 85% water? So that you had to SWIM alot, I'm thoroughly convinced this was a cheap timesink because the knew that content was pretty much nonexistant. Hundreds of quests? The same quests you did from 1-29, go kill 10 boars and bring me their hides, same quests different names.

book 10: Added the city of annunimas with 3x 6-man instances. Also reputation-system with 2 huge public dungeons. And session play with Troll, Ranger and chicken

Annuminus is another easy place. Reputation is a cheap excuse for a time sink, grind for days on end for this horse that is minimally better than one you don't need to grind for! This is another thing for the people that can't see through it for what it really is - something that really isn't entertaining or should be considered content. Troll and Ranger play pretty much destroyed the little crap PvP they once had, yeah, sure lets let players run around with things with 34,000 hitpoints that can do massive damage, that's fun, that'll balance things, don't even get me started on chicken play.

book 11 (the biggest): Expanded 2 zones with the High pass in misty mountain and Tal bruinen in Trollshaws. New 12-raid (with the best rewards in the game)... New public dungeon Goblin Town (huge)... Housing (personal and kin) with 4 different homesteads...

The Rift isn't the best gear in the game, crafted and Helegrod epic sets are still very comparable. They did a horrible job with housing, it's totally linear and you can just barely decide where items go, you're restricted to hooks. Retarded.

book 12: Added a PvMP dungoen the Delving of fror and new PvP gear.. also gave us the outfit system and barber shops.. Angmar had a revamp which made the zone much better..

The Delving brought all of the noobs to the 'moors. This was the final killing blow to the terrible PvP in this game. This brought people who didn't want to enjoy PvP, who didn't care how they did it, who didn't listen any better than a 2 year old, all they cared about was farming Ren/Inf all day and night, and nothing more, it even turned old time PvPers into nonstop farmers just because of gear.

book 13: A huge new zone, Forochel was added with alot of new stuff... New monster play class: The defiler to give Creeps more healing... and fishing was introduced with titles, trophies and so on..

You wanna know why Forochel has a huge frozen lake? Why did they choose this area as the new zone? The same reason they did Evendim, except this time it's even worse because you can't actually swim. The Defilers to further screw up PvP, fishing is 100% mindless. I was terribly let down by fishing. And ZOMG titles, big deal, another grind factor.

book: 14 To be released in July...

After over a year of seeing how Turbine does things I think I'll keep my money, because I guarantee you a large part of the playerbase is going to be asking about new content because they're bored after a month and a half.

Man you really have to calm down cause you are taking things WAY to serious... if you dont like the content then thats fine by me... When looking at the list of other MMOs I cant find one that does anything different or better (except maybe EVE)... so what game are you paying that is so great that you have to keep bashing LotrO all the time? LotrO is a casual MMO with story/Lore as its focus.. theres no other such game out there..

I hope Mortal turns out good thou... seems like a cool and unique world.. but it will probably be ruined by immature gankers like all other games.... ;)

Please...F2P games will never be on par with P2P. At least not till they have decent devs that know how to block or handle hacks, gold sellers (yes gold sellers can be bad in p2p but not nearly as bad as f2p),bots ect. The other thing with f2p games is they can advertise MUCH more numbers than they actually have. Most f2p you dont cancel your account when you leave so even if you left 2 years ago they can still claim you as an active account. Your example of silkroad is great for my argument. Poor managment, tons of bots, gold sellers and hacks. Maybe in the asian market its popular but in the western market f2p games will always be a thing to pass the time till the next big p2p MMO comes out.

This is funny. I agree with the OP that is a lot of free content to be released in one year. There have been a couple of people post and say that other games have released more, but no one actually named a game that has. i dont play LOTRO, but congrats to those that do.

another funny thing is that everyone that doesn't like the update complained because of the lack of new gear in it. Consider this: Maybe its not about the gear. I played the LOTRO beta and I saw that the game was about the story, the adventure and exploring the lands. If you're looking for gear-based games with end game raids then just about every other MMO is better suited for you. LOTRO is being knocked for being different. what is the point in better gear for a capped character anyway? if you say there is NO content for your lvl 50, why do you need good gear.

Anyway this thread has me thinking maybe I should be playing this game, because its surely not all about the gear for me.

Talk about an epic fail, someone who has no life to the extent they can play so much LOTRO they apparently can finish the game in 3 weeks.

Here is a thought, TURN OFF THE COMPUTER AND GO OUTSIDE!!!!

Assuming the statement you made is true, which I doubt, why should Turbine lengthen the grind in order to appease the less than 1% of players who never leave their computer screen?

My personal problem with the game was i had no choice but to raid the rift or PvMP.

After that there was nothing left for me. Oh and yeah i guess i could have grinded my ass off for deeds or rolled another character and do it all over again. But thats not going to happen.

    lolwut?

Do you really think they put two zones in that are 85% water/icey water because they though players would like them? No, they put them in because it would take longer to get places and they need all of the time they can get.

Do you really think that the super duper awesome reputation system isn't just a pure grind? Because it is, along with the trait/deed system, nothing more.

The 'content' is pretty mind numbingly boring. Isn't this a western MMO? Starting to seem Asian to me with all of the grind.

  • jarishjarish Member Posts: 526

Hmmm I would say 50% water. And I am enjoying the new areas. To each his own I guess.

Not likely. I feel kind of bad for him :(

while I agree, the content updating is well done, and ALL other mmorpgs out there should use it as an example. I still can't find myself playing this game due to the boring combat mechanics. It's just not fun enough to make me come and enjoy the great graphics(scenic at least) and music.

AoC on the other hand, which I'm playing now is unique enough that I can actually look past content flaws to the fun game it is.

The game is free for me now.  Paid for a lifetime subscription at launch.  Now I can play free for the next (insert lifetime of game here) years without paying another penny other than expansion.

That being said, Thanks Turbine for giving us frequent content updates...unlike that other unnamed mmo.

I think you have some valid points about the flaws in LotrO but this is just stupid... 85% Water?? Have you been to forochel?? There is even a swift travel between the camps on each side of the bay... the lake in Evendim is realy boring and I wish there where some kin of boat or raft that would take you over but it doenst take away the fact that there is huge land area in the zone and the lake is not close to 85% so stop trolling...

And about the reputaion system... yes it CAN be a grind if you let it be a grind... there is no FORCED grinding in LotrO like there is in many other games... there is no content locked away from that you have to grind to get access to (that is Forced grinding)... the rep-system is made as a bonus and a way to get some good stuff without have to raid or PvP... and you dont get rep just by grinding.. you alose get it through crafting, questing and doing dungeons so its not like you have to kill the same mobs over and over to get the rep-rewards...

I agree that theere is lack of lvl 50 content in LotrO but the same thing is said about AoC... and then you have another 30 lvls to grind ;)

Maybe you can make a thread one year from now called: "AoC one year of free content that the Devs promised would be in release"

They ran out of places inside Eriador.  There is no conspiracy to slow down player progression.

It looks to me like they want to start filling out Northern Eriador before they move southward, and continue progressing through the storyline.

    Check this map out.  http://www.tuckborough.net/eriador.html#Map

    Tolkien Lore ftw!
