Funcom is straightforward when it states that players have to be a part of an organization to enjoy most of what Alien Invasion has to offer. With organizations -- the Anarchy Online version of a player guild -- groups of players can ally under a shared banner to partake in the two major additions that Alien Invasion has to offer: player-created cities, and the alien attacks.
But there are other, more subtle changes introduced in the Alien Invasion expansion. For one, there's some new GUI functionality, which includes the ability to sort inventories, a new chat interface, and on-screen windows that can be docked wherever you like. Nano programmers, engineers, pharmacists, and other trade-skill gurus can make use of a new trade-skill interface that displays the ingredients and resulting end product before a combine is made, taking a lot of the guesswork out of experimenting with the game's incredible array of seemingly useless knickknacks and doodads.

Now thats a load of bull. Maybe folks know it now that its out and the forums are a flamefest
You've got to be kidding me!
I actually popped on to see if there were any reviews of Alien Invasion, but if I'm understanding this right, unless your in some type of guild you will miss alot of this expansion?
You know Funcom is one of those crazy enigmas. I guess they are destine to make every mistake there is out there before anyone else does. I honestly have not heard a single word about how you would "have" to be in a guild to see the benifits of the game. I do remember seeing blurbs about guild cities but thats all. Shame on you Funcom. This, too will bite you hard.
Oh well scrap one expansion and save me 29.99!
If you look at other Games like DAoC or Everquest, you'll see that many expansions are designed mainly or even exclusively for the experienced gamers. So AI just follows this tradition.
Yes, I am a bit disappointed, too, because I've never been in a guild, and I play this thing for over 2 years now...
But there are sooo many things to do here, that I'm sure I'll find the clue behind of AI.
There are not only some mean green aliens. There are player cities, player shops (if they work soon :-) ), you even can have your own grid exits, isn't that great?
So please see AI as what it is: an updated AO with some new features.
Funcom would probably haven done better if they had added the free month at the accounts of the senior players to reduce disappointment a bit.
Anyway, I'm sure that AO will keep its ranking as one of, if not THE MMORG with most content and best community
*sighs*
MKI your post is right on schedule. Well, ok maybe a little bit late, but there it is none the less and you couldn't be more wrong with your example of EQ or DAOC releasing content for higher level players in this same context.
Everyone knows that expansions are released to feed the appetites of higher level players, this isn't the issue here. It's made known as soon as the expansion is even revealed who the expansion is geared towards. This didn't happen with Anarchy Online: Alien Invasion. I know for a fact because I am actually a fan of Anarchy Online and was hoping to see how this expansion faired, but in all my pre-release research not one time did I ever read anything about HAVING to be in a guild to experience the majority of the new content. Not until after people have played and now know first hand has it been PROVEN that 90% of the content requires a guild or your just out of luck, so sorry you stopped by, take care & see ya next time.
Sorry bro - you can't argue this point as it's not opinion - It's a fact.
