Nope not trolling, its just you being paranoid. Why dont you just check ingame, fanboi?

Do you expect Funcom to write it up in their patchnotes?

Fanboi?  How about you read my previous post Sherlock.  I'm no fan of AoC but I don't start posting scathing complaints about the game.  I guess in your definition a fanboi is anyone who doesn't rip into the game at every chance.

I was asking a question. Your "quick glance" missed it and you pulled out the old troll argument. How about you answer some of the questions here instead of just posting meaningless replies.

    I will help you.

1: Can you confirm ingame that what I wrote is true?

2: Do you expect Funcom to write changes like these in their patchnotes?

and optionally, 3: If this is indeed true, what would be the next logical thing for Funcom to change in order to make it more friendly for kids?

My answer for 3 is: Give all female toons a bra you cant take off.

Read the post again Sherlock. I said it was possibly a troll post, and made it quite clear I had taken a quick glance at the forum, not an indepth one.  Now if you want to keep ripping into me for making a comment about possibilities, not making an accusation, then please go right ahead, it'll say a lot about you.

The thread that was linked earlier in this one does indeed talk about these changes and I'll refer you to my first post in this thread as my first comment assumed this was true.

It's called keeping a neutral stance Sherlock, something you seem to have trouble doing considering your 'fanboi' reply.

Go right ahead if you want to vent some more, I'm not going to bother any further discussion on this thread.

    Hahaha

Umm... so how about you answer those questions? Ah, nevermind, you are to busy with your Sher-Sher-Sherlock thingy.

That'd be like taking the 'nerd' out of Star Trek, you can't really.  It's an integral part of the lore.

I'd bet it's for the console gamers more than the PC ones.  PC games mean alone time on the computer for kids, and we all know PC stands for Porn Collector to teens.  But I can't think of very many console games that are showing T and A, and those are always in the news when they hit.  GTAs, that volleyball game with naked ladies, etc..

Either way, pretty weak of Fucom to put the stuff in, then take it out, which will probably involve some work to do, when the game needs a solid debugging as is and the artists are busy with other stuff than making bras for already made character models.

Yes, you should be angry...nay, outraged...that your ability to have hours of fun with pixelated tits has been changed.

In case it isn't obvious, /sarcasm off.

I couldn't care less either way.  But, its not even about the porn.  They are removing the mature themed LORE for christsakes!   Or, at least, being speculated to.  Regardless, its very important that you understand that, in removing said parts of the game, they completely remove themselves from EVERYTHING they said they were about.  They told players that they DELIBERATELY kept the mature theme and nature of Conan.  They marketed to those players, and got those players to buy the game.

By removing it, they are essentially taking away the very last aspect of their game they had left to offer from their originally listed set of things.  Honestly...will you guys not stand up for anything?  Has the MMO market really desensitized you so much...that you totally accept, not only failing to provide even HALF of what was promised, but also removing many of the things they DID provide?

The only reason I saw for any player to remain here was because they really liked the Conan lore and mature theme (which was showcased with their graphic engine).  In case you didn't know....what is being discussed here is the fact they could be removing that to make way for the "new players" they plan on getting.  I've heard THIS before...and it cost that company 200-300K players as a result.  Its too late to market to a younger crowd, or even a different crowd.  They have already spent too long hyping the game as it was....changing things is gonna sink em.

Tits and gore is not "Mature content", it's  "Inmature content".

I think it would have been much better just to keep the options to display it there then remove it entirely if that's what they indeed have done.

I am an ex-AoC player aswell, but cancelled due to lack of content and too many broken promises and features.

They are removing more than tits and gore silly bean.

Also, you can drop the elitism.  Not thinking tits and gore is mature does not make you better than anyone.  Frankly, if such things WERE only for immature people...then Porn would be legal for sale to minors.  It IS content intended for mature players.

But they are removing FAR more than "just" tits and gore.  Its what they are taking away from the NPC text and speech that hurts the most.  They are (perhaps, I can't swear) removing the very heart and soul of the universe (which is VERY mature stuff...you wouldn't want your kids to read it) which they swore to everyone they would stay true to.

I'm sorry if you cannot follow as to why people would be upset.

Looks like you know nothing about Conan world. Try reading a book or maybe watch a movie? they want to release this game for console. What do you expect? children have more easy access to console then computers. AOC is bread and butter of FC. Of course they will do whatever makes it sell more.

  • KroganKrogan Member UncommonPosts: 304

lol got to love funcom, they had a board meeting and decided that it was the mature content that was the reason they had no subs hahaha that was the only thing they had going for them.

yes I am sure that's it funcom, not the horribly unfinished game and all the massive limitations that makes AoC hardly qualify as an mmo at all, no it was the mature content damit!

but still I think its unfair to say that they are betraying their subs that is like cheating with another woman when your single. You need one for the other to be possible.

Breats and gore are not mature or immature subjects, they are facts of life...

I will never understand why in US culture where violence is always there nude bodies and erotism are immature or wrong... anyway,

The main issue is, Conan universe is realistic, is violent  and erotic ( as any primitive culture without christianity, modern moral and hypocrisy). Funcom need to stay true to the original lore.

When you are at the beach ( normal beach or nude beach ) and you see a girl doing top less you close your eyes and shout, how immature? You dont do it in your private life, right?

When you see how violent are quests in everquest, wow or any mmo, you stop the game and shout this is immature?

In my opinion it is sad to realize that "colored violence" is cool, but realism or erotism is wrong and immature in the eyes of the masses.

I blame cencorship on those ESRB people and FCC that want to control us as little pets and animals than rather make our own choices on what we want to look at or do/say. it is all politicaly tied to to those people who let religion think for them and not them for themselves. cencorship is propaganda by the government and religious institutions. I sense post deletion with my comments if people care and want to be politicaly correct Oh well! .

Actually this is just a marketing ploy to get you to resub and take screenshots while you still can.

Really though, we all know that they are only doing this because AOC is underperforming and they need to reach out to broader demographics: suburban teenagers with uptight parents.

the only thing I got out of this thread was whenever GrumpyDwarf got upset he called people Sherlock lol

People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.

I dont really care about the nudity factor of the game, but i still think its kinda lame that they would throw it out after calling it one of the Sexyest MMO's yet. Does that mean they will half to tone down the rating in the back from (Nudity) to (Partial nudity)? Kinda lame if you ask me, i am not playing atm but that is pretty stupid.

  • fiontarfiontar Member UncommonPosts: 3,682

This really doesn't surprise me, but it is disappointing. When you stand back and ignore the game's many technical flaws and just look at the game universe as presented, it's actually pretty disappointing.

I just don't get the gritty, primitive vibe that should be present in the game. Hyboria is set in a fictional version of 10,000 BC Earth, yet the game feels like a typical medieval fantasy world!

Way too many of the NPCs are fairy land ultruists and the female armors are less revealing than any major  MMORPG except LotRO.

The game fails on atmosphere and toning down what little mature content and dialog there was in the game is just another step in the wrong direction.

What I meant is that tits ang gore attract the inmature players, not the mature ones, even if it's rated "Mature", so it's a contradiction. They should label this content as "Inmature", for people that like that in a game, specially gore, and for people that make a fuss about seeing a naked body.

Wait until the Xbox version is released - by that time AoC will have morphed into a game with WoW-like nudity (i.e., little more than sexy armor/clothes) and an incredibly immature player base!

Seriously, I don't feel the need for breasts, but nudity is definitely required in AoC. In every single R.E. Howard story the women are dressed in next to nothing, or if they are dressed, Howard makes it a point to mention how the clothes do a very poor job of covering the girl's flesh.

It's part of the appeal of Howard's writing, along with the barbaric decapitations, maiming, dismemberments, etc. Every single time that Conan "crushes" a girl to his chest and "bruises" her lips with his mouth, she is naked or close to it.

If you disagree, before you post your denial go check your copy of the collected stories of Robert E. Howard - I just finished book 1 and 2 of the 3-part complete Conan series and I can assure you that girls who are present in any original Conan narrative almost invariably are naked, end up naked, or are covered only by  those fantasy gimmicks like metal breast cups and diaphanous scraps of silk (mind you, some editions of Howard stories are censored, find a full version).

What Funcom is doing is pretty uninspiring, and a disservice to a great writer. Shame on them.

Let me also add that it is not just the attractive women in Conan stories who are naked. Plenty of men also go buff at times, including Conan.

    Not exacly.

Get The Witcher, it has sex and nude bodies and  it is a pretty good mature RPG.

Get Salammbo, it has a seductive art style, and it is a pretty good mature adventure.

I think in your opinion Age of Conan is like GTA or Postal and it is not, there is a reason for nudity and mature content.

If we take your concept about mature/immature you would belive only immature people would go to an exposition to see Klimt´s art.

Do you think only immature people would watch Caligula or any Tinto Brass movie?

No one is making a fuss about a naked body, only people that think it is immature or imoral are making a fuss.

You are totally right about Conan lore Julez and you expressed that in the best way.

But really, the 360 version has nothing to do with that, just take a look at GTA ( Im not comparing the pop hiphop expression of gta with Robert E Howard work, but I think you got my point ), the PC market is much more family oriented ( wow, the sims etc ).

There is not an official position from Funcom about this issue, some players are noticing some changes in quests and npcs, I think we should wait to be sure about all this issue.

I hope funcom doesnt change the mature content, as one of the reasons I play this game is for the original lore, but if they are really doing that, as you said, shame on them.

Ah FunCom, you have risen on the ladder for the title for the category of "Bait and Switch" companies.

All you need to do now is make Conan a playable character for all and you will vanquish SOE off its throne for the title..
