In LOTRO there used to be a big problem with everyone wearing the same armor and looking the same. A couple of patches ago, Turbine released a new cosmetic inventory system that allows players to have one armor outfit for their stats and two cosmetic outfits. You can decide which outfit to use for your appearance without affecting your stats. They have also released a lot of cosmetic items such as quivers, dresses, robes, etc, designed specifically for cosmetic outfits.
A few months later, it's quite amazing to see how diverse and cool the outfits that people have come up with are. I found this really cool thread today which shows off some of the best. For your viewing pleasure:

You can look unique now but I'll maybe subscribing back once my character can be a little bit more unique.
I really like how this Thief looks like.
The theif your talking about has a good bit of the rift geer making him look very sexy. Yeah thats some awsome stuff their. Wish i had that stuff.
We'll never be really unique in mmos... :P

Yeah we can't be 100% unique but I'd like if the classes weren't carbon copys.
That would take a lot of "genetic programming"... perhaps we still don't have the infrastructure to make it happen.
Maybe in the next few years... I'd like to see MMOs using technology such as Google Ads and their "Crystal Ball Stuff" to increase the gaming experience.
An ever-changing game based on our preferences, historical experience and the environment?! It hurts...

All I see is more "dumbing down" in the future. EQ2 had more complex system then WoW dumbed it down a bit and then LOTRO dumbed it down even more.
Maybe for the usability experience and in-game systems... But I think about even a simple game system, on an ever-changing way... I don't know what way is that... yet!

Well, supposedly they are looking into ways to specialize more

"Jeffrey Steefel:: Probably both. In other words, for some people that want a completely new class and don't mind going through the entire thing, who don't mind starting a new alt [alternate character] because they've been through the whole game once or twice, eventually there'll be opportunities for new classes. And by the same token for people, to your point, who don't want to go back to square one and just want to continue I THINK THERE WILL BE WAYS TO ENHANCE THEIR EXISTING CLASSES. THESE ARE IDEAS. Now I'm in idea mode which Adam hates. WHETHER IT'S PRESTIGE CLASSES OR LEGENDARY TRAITS THAT SO SIGNIFICANTLY CHANGE YOUR CLASS IT ALMOST MAKES IT AN ENHANCED CLASS OR NEW CLASS THAT DOESN'T START AT THE BEGINNING. Those are all possibilities that we're considering. It's something that is also a part of our internal discussions for next year."
"WarCry: Beneros: Any plans to make classes more unique, I often feel like im the same as every other hunter my class, a branching system would be neat.
TensLOTRO: For Book 12 we've wrapped up our major class updates with the Month of the Guardian and Burglar.
TensLOTRO: But, to be perfectly honest, we think that giving our classes more customization options is neat too.
TensLOTRO: So much so, it's currently a large portion of what the Systems Team is working on, now that we've got our major class updates out of the way.
TensLOTRO: While I can't reveal any hard details, I can say that future class specialization will lean heavily on Traits, Items, and a feature to be announced at a later date.
TensLOTRO: Don't worry - we're on it"
I'ts possible that feature they mention is the legendary items which can be customized, but I'm thinking that that would fall under the "item" category that he mentioned. So I hope it's some kind of talent tree that's layered on top of the trait system.

Ok! Thanks for the info. Maybe I'll get back to LOTRO after the expansion or when ever they are planing to add that.
