OMG, stop bashing Age of conan!!! Lol, j/k. The picture was really funny. It's pretty true, but I can see some people getting mad about it, but I don't know why. It's just good humor.
Seriously, *I* find it more sad. WOW is like a giant making it extremely difficult for other MMOs. No debate about WOW here pls, I just said it to make clear I am NO wow fan! No hater either.

Wow is part of it. The other part is there are just too damn many MMO's. Even the crappy ones can take a few hundred people away. It spreads the non-wow group even thinner.
I see Guild Wars is not on there. Does that means it wins?
Great pic
At every lousy MMO released, WOW looks bigger and better. Soon it will be considered sandbox and hardcore.
Awesome pic
Great description of the mmo genre
World of Warcraft is a proof that MMORPG quality should affect schedule/budget and not the other way around.
rofl..
Uuuh, I utterly fail to see anything really funny in that picture, though. Thats because it has hardly anything to do with reality. I strongly doubt any failure in any of these games listed had anything to do with WoW at all.
I have played Vanguard from its release and I have heard all kinds of reasons why people leave. Leaving for AoC or EVE, getting bored, too many bugs, too low population, busy in reallife, starting egoshooters instead, ... but not ONE of them left to play WoW.
Yes, your beloved GW is a definite success. Such is LotRO, by the way, too.
don't be naive...it's obvious they reactivated their wow account after they told you that.

I thought the picture was funny.
In War - Victory.
In Peace - Vigilance.
In Death - Sacrifice.
It would have been funnier to have created a joke based upon those games dying from self-inflicted wounds, rather than at the hands of WoW.
Nevertheless, here is what the market looks like, as of April.

"Don't corpse-camp that idea. Its never gonna rez"
Bladezz (The Guild)
Hahahahah, who knew Runescape was a juggernaut. Second place in percent of subs? According to that chart of course...they couldn't possibly have that many members, it's probably free and member accounts. The least Jagex can do is fix the Wildy and give your character a face (though admittedly with the new graphics update it will look alot better).

A human and an Elf get captured by Skaven. The rat-men are getting ready to shoot the first hostage with Dwarf-made guns when he yells, "Earthquake!" The naturally nervous Skaven run and hide from the imaginary threat. He escapes. The Skaven regroup and bring out the Elf. Being very smart, the Elf has figured out what to do. When the Skaven get ready to shoot, the Elf, in order to scare them, yells, "Fire!"
Order of the White Border.
{ Mod Edit }
Oh..btw...LotRO is ranked at top, WoW is not.

But--If you are basing your statement on sales then of course WoW wins, but it's not all about the sales, it's about the game and after 3yrs even WoW will level out. Expansion time will change it again.
"My Fantasy is having two men at once...
One Cooking and One Cleaning!"

"A good man can make you feel sexy,
strong and able to take on the whole world...
oh sorry...that's wine...wine does that..."
That was pretty funny but what makes it funny is there is some truth in the picture. It is not WoW fault they got slaughtered its their fault for not being better games.
A game I'm currently playing (LotRO) is a head on the wall. And I don't think its as good a game as WoW just newer to me.
A game that really wants to stand up to WoW must be a blast to play and not a copy of WoW. That will be the trick but I believe it can be done.
Maybe if Vanguard had been more successful at launch some of the horde of WoW players might have gave it a shot. Golden opportunity lost. I know the creators of Vanguard were counting on WoW players coming over.
ROTFL
Ok, that one WAS funny
To the first sentence: exactly my thought.
I really dont know if I would care about a WoW killer, would it ever be released. A WoW killer would be played by WoW kidz - no ? So why would I want to play whatever a WoW kid likes to play ? I dont play WoW either, so ...
And I guess a WoW killer, if anyone here wants to make one, simply has to follow the WoW scheme:
If you manage that, and manage to be original enough to be a different experience (after all, WoW *is* a different experience than Diablo 2), and maybe even get a big IP (such as Harry Potter), you could end up being the true WoW killer.
GREAT!!!
I think this picture should be finely printed , framed and sent to all MMO developers , as a nice momento of their failure to innovate, improve ...
and for crying out loud - even failure to COPY !
Great picture... in fact, it would be really cool if someone actually illustrated the wow archetypes chilling in a ski-lodge type place with the collected heads of failed mmos mounted around them... kind of like a political cartoon. For the LoTRO one, I'd change out the generic man head to Gandalf's head...
This might be funny if any of those games had ever actually had the intention of "beating" WoW.
But they didn't, so it's really only funny to fanbois.
Well, I suspect Garriott may have had the hubris to think TR could compete, before beta anyway. But not the others.
Thank you. Very funny. Sent the pic to all my guildies including 2 who played AoC for about a month and have come back to WoW. They still think they may return to AoC, but after a little more work has been done on it.
Sad thing is that some of this game had actually a good fighting chance against WOW ... well in theory at least.
Tabula Rasa - If actually developed right , had a combat system to actually challenge WOW on fun department
Vanguard - could have easily challenge WOW on massive world of content and adventure
LOTRO - surely has the Lore
To bad their developers were just not up to challenge. Actually some of these games are sub par even compared to single player games...and i am not talking about good SP either
Age of Conan's problems have nothing at all to do with World of Warcraft. I bought AoC, played it, and found it much more enjoyable than WoW. However, the Funcom devs seem to have no idea how to build a stable game. Before yesterday's patch, I had the game up and running smoothly at around 60fps...now, the graphics refuse to display. As with many of the trophy heads in your picture, what's killing AoC isn't WoW, but developer incompetence.
Also, seeing as LOTRO is thriving in its niche of Tolkien fans and is about to release an expansion this fall, I'd hardly call it dead.
...moo?
Well I don't think the OP was insinuating that WoW was necessarily the reason for a games popularity or lack thereof, but rather that each game has failed to put WoW on it's wall so to speak. They all wanted to grab what WoW has and for whatever reason hasn't been able to do that. I don't really consider any of the games on that wall failures necessarily, just that they haven't been able to wrestle the title away from Blizz.
