If this has been discussed before I apologize.
I was just wondering if EQ2 will make use of input devices other than the mouse. I ask cause I write code for a living thus I'm doing the keyboard/mouse type and click feast for at least 8 hours a day. So when I get home I'd like to be more confortable if playing a game on the computer which means avoinding the keyboard and mouse as much as possible.
This is one of the main reasons I'm not subscribed to any MMORPG atm and own a PS2.
BTW, as long as SOE doesn't start releasing expansions every other month (like EQ) I will prob be playing EQ2.
so any word on the input devices supported by EQ2 ?
thank you in advance.

The only mmorpg I know that uses a joystick (controller)of any sort is FFXI. Mainly because they designed the FFXI controls for the PS2 as well...and the keyboard option was sorta complicated (as you can tell that it was designed for a controller anyways).
The only other mmorpg I can think of that will be using a joystick is SWG: jump to lightspeed.
Other than that, I dont think EQ2 can allow you to use a controller (I could be wrong)
Also, expect expansions to come out for EQ2. Its quite normal for expansions to come out for mmorpgs and depending on which game you'll be playing expansions are not free.
The only two mmorpgs I can think of with free "expansions" is EVE and Lineage ][

Well thats too bad then, I was not actually expecting the Joystick to replace everything but rather to implement a small set of functions. Something simple like the directional buttons with strafe, etc.
Concerning the expansions, I have no problem paying for them, as long as they don't release one every other month. DAOC released (paid) expansions as well they just didn't release as many.
And quite frankly, some of the expanions added very little to the game, like the froglok one.
You should be able to do that in *any* game with a decent controller. I had that exact setup for a bunch of online games that didn't officially supoprt joysticks (such as EverQuest) and it worked perfectly. Just configure the controller to output keystrokes and you're good to go.
The Logitech dual analog stick contoller is excellent for this. I forgot the model name - it looks EXACTLY like a PS2 controller with 2 analog sticks, 1 d-pad, 4 buttons, 4 triggers, start/select type buttons in the middle, runs about $20 at your local game shop. The M$ ones arne't too bad, but they are not always as configurable as something generic, and you have to install a lot of M$ bloat....er....software on to your machine. =

Thank you Pooka !
Very interesting. I guess it's been a while since I bought a joystick for the PC, good to know they now map keys, at least the good ones do.
And since I'm a big fan of Logitech I'm going to try the one you mentioned.
Thanks a lot.
Just make sure it's the "gamepad" type - and not a full analog (flight style) joystick. The former are usually very configurable, but the flight sticks are only really good for flight-sim type games.
