Best competative raiding mmo?

I'm writing this expecting to hear go back to WoW or so but if that's the answer so beit. I used to play WoW a fair amount and really found a love in the raiding endgame. I'm looking for a similar or hopefully better experience. I used to love competing with other guilds for first kills on all bosses and instance completions.

I was never in the greatest guild but we were pretty much always in the top 50 or so which to me for the time investement was a good acheievement for me and to this I miss playing wow to that level. I would love to find a fresh new game where this could be a factor. I hear quit alot of talk of the hardcore raiding aspect of EQ but not sure how active this still is. While it's a great thrill to complete content regardless of who else is playing, it's always an extra buzz to know you've beaten so and so to that kill. Any recommendations would be great, or just "go back to WoW" would be fine too :)

I don't consider myself as well-versed in all the games out there, but I have spent a significant amount of time playing Everquest. If you are interested only in the raiding end game then EQ is awesome. If you are frustrated by lack of grouping opportunities then EQ might not be for you. On my server, all the guilds which I know of are almost always void of members except during raid hours(hence the lack of grouping opportunities). I enjoy the raiding, but I too am searching for a more rounded game either having more grouping opportunities or solo content for progression.

    Game on.

Raiding is slowly dieing in WoW.  Just examine the progression

Pre-BC:  40 man.   Only way to get good gear and progress in raiding or compete in PVP was by raiding 40 man...non...stop.

BC:  25 man.  Guilds splintered.  Good gear falls from the sky like rain.  Epic is no longer epic.  The only reason to raid is to see new encounters a few times.  Spending hours and hours raiding is less attractive.

WotLK:  10 man and 25 man progression paths.  Expect more guilds to splinter.  Epics will fall from the sky in a torrential flood through a myriad of sources.  The ONLY point to raid is to see the new instances, not for gear.  10 man progression will be the heavy favorite.  Easier to manage, easier to avoid playing with asshats, easier to progress with 10 very good players.  Raiding 25 man just for a 1 tier bump in gear stats to see the same instances and essentially the same encounters will be unattractive to the majority of players.  Add more Arenas, and new BG, new badge syste, better heroic gear, and an entire PvP zone with flying combat, destructible buildings, and siege engines.....and all the rewards those entail.

Yeah, raiding in WoW will have no point shortly.

Yeah I to see WOTLK seriously changing alot of stuff for WOW. They are getting alot more PVP stuff also and right now alot of the awesome gear for Arena and pvp out matches or equals raid gear. And you can arena in half the time normally and not be int he same boat raiding. The same guilds will progress through but look at this BC stuff and how easy guilds go through stuff now. Before on my server (Dragonblight) Pre-BC we had like 5-6 guilds if even who had cleared MC and BWL and such now these guilds in BC were just like everyone else (except for 2 of them who was far and beyond anyone). I came back guilds had split because of raiding had hindered how many people they needed.

So this is also what I noticed guilds now seem to break-up,reform,or just die alot more now then they used to. One reason is because the raiding is made shorter and people get bored so more people leave so it leaves more room in bigger guilds to go and people constantly leave and the guilds seem to be stuck more behind.

But yeah WOTLK doing different stuff to with raiding and adding alot to eh pvp front. WOW has been gearing more towards PVP lately in my eyes wanting more people to arena and such. WOTLK will be the start of WOW's downfall i my eyes I do not know what it was but BC was just horrible and changed so much. I love WOW to death I guess I just miss the old raids and such even though they were huge they were fun alot more socializing for me and getting to know people.

I cannot say what if any game will have the raid content it does. But I mean if your just into raiding stick around to see how WOTLK turns out and keep on playing.

I agree with this with the new PVP stuff being added it seems to me they have been alot more towards PVP as of late then PVE. So I think WOTLK will make or break the game for some now to see what direction its going to go in. I miss the days of 1-60 thats when it was fun to me.

I am fine with raiding going away. There are very few things I hate more than raiding.

I'm going to second the motion for EQ.  If end-game raiding is your thing, EQ still does it better than anyone else.  Its always been the main focus of the game, and after nine years they've really got it down.   Its true the server populations are smaller now, especially at lower levels - but they've made it easy and fast to level up to where you can start the (current) progression, and most guilds are happy to help a good player get up to speed.  Its seriously hard-core, I won't lie, you have to enjoy doing what it takes to be the BEST.  There's a promotion right now where you can download the game with all the expansions for free, and check it out.

WoW pvp is doomed to fail even if they add pvp content . Because 90% of playerbase is pve heavy ( even on pvp server) .

Agreed, most of the players on PvP realms are only there for fun, because the most of them, only does PvE!

That is if they can stand the dated graphics.

EQ2 has a decent bit of raiding, and the loot system for it is pretty nice as well.

My god has horns.... nah, I don't think he is real either.
