Thinking of starting over on Kettemoor.

But... I have a few questions.
After NGE I really didn't play long, what class is most like the pre-nge ranger?
I saw a post boasting 57 playing joined a new guild on Kettemoor.
- Do you guys role play at all?
- What time zone are you mostly in?
- Who do I contact and are you of rebel or imperial alignment, or neither?

The closest class to ranger depends upon what aspect you're considering ranger. Technically all professions can have the same harvest modifeirs to the extent of my knowledge, although you can get a mod suit if that's what you're going for.
Spies = Cloaking/camo, but not currently a favorite for instances. It's a niche profession.
Bounty Hunters = Traps and various other things, and is one of the most powerful ranged professions.
Medics = Reviving, healing, buffing, components of combat medic.
Officers = Squad leaders for the most part, focus mainly on AoE damage and group support
Jedi = Lightsided Jedi are considered "tanks" while darkside Jedi are considered DPS, both are obviously melee focused, but I haven't played a Jedi in a long time and they might have some more ranged force powers.
Commando = Not a ranger. The heavy weapons person with a lot of armor.
Smuggler = I don't personally know a lot about them, but they are a mixed bag of tricks with melee or ranged and burst damage.
Traders = Nah.
I'm not on Kettemoor; I'm on Chilastra.
Hmm a pre-nge ranger... I would think spy claims to be the most like a ranger. They have camo, and most of their more powerful attacks are really hated in PVP.
As far as Kett, I have started a character their and am having a blast.
1. Some of the guys role play, I cannot comment on the extent because I am playing at odd hours compared to the rest.
2. It seems to me that most people are playing in the evening on the east coast of the United States. I still see several people at the hours I play(live in Australia) but I think most people are on the east coast time and play in the evenings.
3. It was suggested by the rebels on Kett, we go imperial. We did, although to date none of us are high enough level to enter restuss to get a good feel for the PVP.
Contact --- Imtheboss, Freica, Farcus, Hunnymonster, Hosal, Keilo --- those are just some off the top of my head.
I think Kett does not have that great of a population, but the guild is really trying to help everyone who joins up. I think everyone is basically leveling up from scratch, although we did take in a few returning vets who already had characters on Kett.
