Hi all,
Im a WoW/Guild Wars vet mostly, still playing WoW but I grow tired of my 70 and frankly dont have the patience to level yet another char all that way.
Im considering picking up something new to try... I've heard lots of different opinions on the other top games "Eve, LOTRO, AoC, VG, etc" but its hard to judge some of these due to some players being very jaded (see Vanguard for details)
I'd like some feedback on a good new game to try. My PC can handle most anything so that shouldnt be a problem (I hear AoC has tough requirements)...
I'll also mention I did try Eve and couldn't really get into it, although Ill admit it was quite a long time ago. Im more of a fantasy player, so VG, AoC and LOTRO seems the most appealing. Actually I did give the trial of LOTRO a spin at release but it was far too similar to WoW at that time for me to keep going.
Anyways Ill stop blabbing, any comments are appreciated
Cheers

Give Vanguard or LOTRO another go...stay clear of AoC! Vanguard is getting much better, and LOTRO besides the UI being quite similar to WoW, the game itself is very different overall once you get deeper into it!
I'd say give Vanguard a go of it. Its making a nice little comeback. It seems to be a love it or hate it type of game, so give it a shot to about level 20 and you should have a solid feel for wether you love it or hate it. I'd say give Eve another shot too. I was in the same boat where I didn't give EvE much of a chance the first time then played for a month the second time. It didn't grab me the second time either but it is grabbing some people as evidenced by their growing subs so its probably worth a second look.
I'd say Vanguard. You ever considered Everquest 2?
Thanks for the replies guys
I think based on this Im going to give Vanguard a shot. Is there a free trial for this? I heard something about 30 day free trial but not having much luck on their official website.
No there isn't at the moment. They're working on a trial island-type thing though. That 30-days thing is with regards to a returning player promotion if I'm not mistaken.
I can't speak for Vanguard, although I am hearing it has come a long way since release. I played it at release and left, however it is catching my eye once again. EQ2 is a solid game but you need to really read the forums and choose a char very carefully, many changes have been made causing several classes to be defunct atm. I'm sure they will be fixed but I would hate to see you start a good game but with a bad class and get turned off the game. Vanguard or EQ2 are your best choices, imo.
They're all great games, AoC included. It depends on what you're looking for. By the sounds of it you don't suffer from altitis, in which case I'd concur with what others are saying that Vanguard is probably the best for you - it's the game in which I've been most inclined to stick with one character (after trying a few out of course), and it's got a nice, expansive feel to it - it's BIG and the gameplay is pretty deep.
If you want a real break from the High Fantasy, but still want a good fantasy setting, and you're into PvP, AoC is a good shot, but it's definitely unfinished, it might be better to wait for a bit till it sorts itself out - however the combat is great as it is, especially for PvP. If you don't expect too much of it right now, and take it for what it is - basically combat-oriented - then it's a good game.
LOTRO is a lovely game, and is highly polished and well thought-out, but it may indeed be too similar in its gameplay to WoW for it to be enough of a change.
EQ2 is also a good bet - it's also highly polished, has a similarly stylised High Fantasy setting to WoW, but again it might be too similar to WoW for it to feel like a break.
Thanks for all the great replies guys! this is a refreshing change from the WoW forums
Vanguard sounds the most appealing, but I admit I know next to nothing about EQ2. How is the game play? I thought this was an older game (perhaps Ive mistaken), how is the player base, especially at lower levels? Is the end game "WoWish" IE Raid or BG for 3 months, get epixxxx, destroy everyone (I was a hunter), yawnnnn, roll an alt? Im really looking for something that is a bit more complex but offers me many different alternates at top level. Something with nice game mechanic's and a good player base. Nothing worse than playing on ghost servers.
Again I appreciate the comments... I'll likely pick up a game tomorrow, so wish me luck on what I get If I like/dislike the game Ill post a review either way.
Cheers!!
