SzarkSzark News ManagerMember Posts: 4,420

Following the announcement of Age of Conan's recent 700,000 player milestone, Funcom has noted that Age of Conan occupies the #1 position on many PC game sales charts across Europe and North America.

Funcom is proud to announce that Age of Conan continues to dominate the PC sales charts in all markets where the game is available.

Over the last few weeks it has remained the overall #1 PC game in most European markets, while also performing tremendously well on several all-format charts. In the US, Age of Conan impressively conquered the #1 PC spot for the first two weeks of available NPD data. Due to the amazing interest surrounding the game, more than 700.000 gamers have now signed up for an Age of Conan account. In the second month after release it is also clear that Age of Conan has taken the position as the undisputed #2 subscription MMO in the western world.

Lol I'm surprised I'm saying this but.

Somewhere out there a single bead of sweat rolled down a Blizzard executive's forehead.

"What is it that the gamers want from these games and why is it not given to them? We were playing these games ourselves, that's why we know it was not being done. So we moved in the opposite direction. We thought about what the users wanted, what we wanted, and why it wasn't happening and how it could happen." - Tasos Flambouras

Apparently you have never played AoC because if you had you would know Blizzard* is not sweating AoC at all. If anything Blizzard and any other MMORPG company laughed out loud at all the people who were suckered into buying and paying for AoC Beta Live.

*I am not a Blizzard fanboi in anyway.

Oh come now every  buisness smart corporation (which is what both Blizzard*  and Funcom** are) has atleast taken note of this event .  And if an MMO gets 700k accounts I think it is logical to assume that a game is atleast a contender on the market.

    ** Or an AoC fanboi.

So this is just a repost from the same announcement this week or past week (don't quite recall the exact timeframe).

I do wish AoC to sucessful, unfortunately it wasn't my cup of tea. WAR on the other hand is a game that I'm quite excited about.

So true. I was hoping AoC would be my new MMO. No way I'm paying for beta. And I hate Gaute Godager lol.. so thats another strike against AoC

Instead of sitting there bragging we got the charts we got the charts like some little kids they should be fixing the damn game. Ya woot to you guys, who knew the newest game would sell so well! In a few months sales will die, subscriptions will cancel and then they will be worrying about how to keep people staying instead of holding their asses in the air proclaiming king of the sales chart.

[[ DEAD ]] - Funny - I deleted my account on the site using the cancel account button.  Forum user is separate and still exists with no way of deleting it. Delete it admins. Do it, this ends now.

I hope you were being sarcastic because the only thing the Blizzard executives are doing is laughing their tails off of another failed attempt to affect Wow.   AoC has no staying power, they forgot to include content for the upper levels and since you level so darn fast most people are already there.  Funcom's abysmal support has also been a very sore thumb to the playerbase.

My guess, this will be a 200k game by middle of the summer and drop precipitally once War hits the ether.

Another major MMO company that did not do their homework.

Hasn't that been the basis of Bli$$ards promo for the last  three years 4 million subs, 6, 10 etc.

Get over it and hope that any game that offers something different in any way can have some success against the Bli$$ard monster.

Let them have their moment in the sun, it's likely that AoC has made it's developement costs back already which meams more new games for us all to play in the future maybe you'll like the next one.

I too had been looking forward to AoC for years. I was a member of the forums the first week they originally opened. It turned out to be the 2nd most disappointing MMORPG I played that I had been looking forward (AC2 was the first incase you are wondering.) So much potential ruined by Funcom. What is more upsetting is after learning about The Secret World I got excited about that. But seeing what a disaster AoC is I have no hope for Funcom's next game.

Funcom PR team trying their best to bend the truths still I see. Funcom know they released AOC at a time when players were getting burnt out with their current MMO's and AOC was the only choice for the summer for a new MMO. Do you really think AOC would have sold like it did if  StarGate Worlds, Aion and War were released around the same time? AOC will be the loser out of the MMO's released this year, just you wait and see.

yep septembre to decembre will hopefully be very busy mmo month

i alreaddy pitty the people from chronicles of spellborne or ddo making beutifull games that have to watch from the sidelines when wow dukes it out with war

also i wouldnt want to be in the skin of the war guys because the pressure and expectation after the so-so conan launch must be immense. to me all of their concepts look brilliant and seem to evolve the mmo genre a good step forward but simple details like ui and controlls, the atmosphere or technical issues can really be only evaluated after the launch.

     my thoughts exactly.

i played AoC at release, im disgusted at the people responsible for releasing it early in the state its in now. FC have a mountain to climb -to win back all of the people who have since cancelled thier subs after the first month.

my guess is that by the time they get the missing content patched in and the core features - currently broken - fixed... me and many others will be gearing up for WAR or Aion or WotLK.

have already renewed my wow sub and am leveling alts... :(

When i started to play wow it was much like aoc many bug and everything.  A big MMORPG doesn't get good at the start when they realees a game.

I like wow and i also like AoC at the same time. also i look forward to try out Warhammer online :P

you will never find a online game that is perfect from the start :P

The game i am looking forward to play most is Diablo III :D

Who cares if they do or not, what I can guarentee is a mass exodus to War  from AoC if there is enough of a population left to represent a mass exodus.

I will also guarentee Funcom doing server merges after the 1st of the year.

    You can guarantee anything

I guarantee AION will make Warhammer look ugly, bad optmized ( take a look how Aion looks and the system requirement is lower than War ) and boring... and will take A LOT of the PVP and PVE crowd from Warhammer.

I can guarantee , at the release Warhammer will be less impressive than Age of Conan, and if Funcom fix all AoC issues, War will not be important to AoC playerbase.

I guarantee the upcoming WoW expansion will overcome War.

War may take some of WoW crowd, but  people that play Everquest2, Age of Conan and Vanguard will not be impressed with War, and after AION release, War will look, sound and play like a 6 years old game.

See, we can guarantee anything... and we can be totally wrong too.

I only hope to have fun with all these games.

Its way too early to see if that one statistic will accurately model the success of AoC.  I know I am a part of that statistic who is no longer a subscriber.  I have a feeling that a ton of others were just trying it out for a month as well and will walk away unsatisfied.  Give it more than a month and see who is left when the dust settles.

  • chrimwinsterchrimwinster Member Posts: 45

Wether sales reach a million or not I think its relative success will have a small impact on WOW because of course some customers will leave WOW as well as other mmos.

When the dust settles I am sure it will be an mmo in the top ten and that has to be an achievement.

It has its flaws for sure but I am still recommending AoC, to any who ask me, as a decent mmo and the best out there at the moment - especially if you do not like cartoon graphics.

Warhammer may well be better and more popular but its pvp and cartoony graphics will keep it seperate from AoC.

Why is this news worthy?  Accounts made, and retained and active subs is totally different, yeah after all they hype of course they were gona have high sales, but there is no way 700k people are playing aoc lol.  After the firts month finished im sure 50% of peopel anclled their accounts.
