Will the original still continue to be playable, new products released?
Or will it end?
I'd like to play both I think, but won't be able to get a new comp for a while, so hoping that GW I will continue for years.
Sorry if it's been asked before, haven't seen any info.

"The original Guild Wars will continue to be supported after release of Guild Wars 2. This will include continued holiday events and tournaments."
from http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Guild_Wars_2
As Nasa mentioned, it will still be supported. I expect, however, that a large portion of the community will leave for GWII. You'll most likely see the community shrink (as a result of what I just stated) and become more tight-knit. Who knows, maybe there will even be some roleplaying!
Currently Playing: Guild Wars.
Played:Guild Wars, Dungeon Runners, WoW, WC3, Starcraft, RuneScape, Wurm.
I'll talk about what I know first so I don't say something dumb.
I have two friends, one plays Guild Wars for 3 hours/day minimum, probably sunk in 2000 hours already. One got his ranger to level 20 and didn't finish any campaign. The one who plays it all the time plans to keep playing it and not play Guild Wars 2, I think his reasoning was that he's achieved so much already. The other - the ranger - already plans to buy it and has an arrangement with our local EB Games (Gamestop in Canada) to get it on launch day.
I have Prophecies and Eye of the North (came in a bundle) and I don't want to get Factions+Nightfall because I figure that I'll just get more of the same thing, only better, in Guild Wars 2 and no time lost.
While I absolutely agree that the community will dwindle, it'll be equal parts newbie and professional. I'm also wondering if Guild Wars 2 fails to meet expectations for any reason. 99% of people I meet (not you meet, just me) despise WoW and say Guild Wars offers more strategic, planned gameplay (which it does). With the addition of partners (essentially everyone's own personal hero) and races (factions/alliances?), I'm wondering if the game will still be that strategic team combat.
Because GW has no monthly fee, we won't see any crazy exodus of players like when say.. EQ2 came out or something similar. If i get GW2 when it comes out, I doubt I'll completely stop playing GW. it'll cut down a lot on my playtime, but not by too much.
And you never know, GW2 could have certain problems. some people may go back to GW to get things that are missing or less balanced in GW2. Like the Coke classic of Guild wars.
Everything creates huge amounts of negativity on the internet, that's what the internet is for: Negativity, porn and lolcats.
i think a couple of months back we had to re accept the EULA because there where some changes made which stated that you agnowledge that if the population is judged insufficient, they will close down the servers. so basically as long as there are sufficient people playing GW1 the servers will live.
GW1 will be active for quite some time to come. People with older systems who won't be able to run the newer GW2 engine. People who prefer the "not based on levels" of GW1. People who prefer no Z-axis. (Yes, they exist!) Not to mention the Hall of Monuments will still accrue your achievements after GW2 launches, so we're likely to see a lot of GW2 players keep coming back to GW1 for more HoM achievements to carry over.
Plus, with no monthly fee anyway, you don't have to "quit" GW1 anyway. It's always there to come back to, free of charge.
yes but because gw2 is obviously a sequel to gw im assuming that almost every current player of gw will buy it, so the community will be very small. It will still be running though.
Yes, but even so, it will still be playable and especially forthosethat want bonuses from the Hall of Monuments... that in itself will bring new players to GW1 as they will want the Hall ofMonuments goodies too
At present we can only assume that, as we do not yet know exactly what we'll be getting in GW2 as a result of the HoM.
I honestly think a lot of the best players have gotten so attached to Guild wars 1 that when they try GW2 they will probably end up going back to GW1 where they are already the top tier. Its what happened to Everquest. Lots of the BEST players that ever played EQ are still on EQ did not move on to EQ2
At present we can only assume that, as we do not yet know exactly what we'll be getting in GW2 as a result of the HoM.
True, but Weapons, Armour and minipets area good indication...
Personally,I'd like to make a character that can use my GW1 characters armour...
