I remember back when Kunark first came out. Such a great experience.
Felt acomplished when I leveled just one level...
Would play again but I've heard bad things about peoples stats being way too high and how hard it is to get any gear because all of the old raiders don't look for new recruits. Plus I'm sure the population is god awful, for lower level content I mean, making it harder too level.
Anyone here still play this game alot? I mean raiding and such.
Despite all the bad things I'm hearing I'm still tempted to install it and start up my account again, the only thing thats stopping me is I lost my disks. Plus I'd have to go out and buy expansions past Darkhollow

I play, generally, Thurs-Sunday. I am having a great time.
I raid, however, maybe once a month. It is generally a pick-up, and it is always fun. It is not as pushy, or intense, as I remember the "old" raids used to be.
I play a few servers, but I have mostly been playing Combine. Finding a group is never a problem for me.
Edit: geez, original was as if a 9 year old wrote it.
I heard they took away the "grind" feel of EQ with some patch too attract more people back so it won't feel like 'forever'. Thats something I personally enjoyed about the game but I dunno...
I figured by now the highest stats needed for raids are outrageous and almost impossible to get without raiding guilds? Thats what I meant.
Hows the economy?
Honest answer:
-The grind is still there. It start at lvl 70 and at lvl 80 the AA grind starts. You will think you lvl fast up until lvl 70, then reality will kick in and you will spend months to catch up in AA and lvl to lvl 80.
-The highest stats are 1000hp items from the SoF expansion. If you have 200hps items you are considered gimp.
-SoE has started RMT, you can get items for $ now, including potions that give you double xp, called potions of adventure.
-The economy is ruined because people buy platinum all the time. The highest lvl items go for 1mill+ now.
-The population is awful yes. Multiple requests to merge servers have been denied. I believe because financially it costs too much to bother to do it. So if you're on a dead server they expect you to pay 50$ to transfer.
-Raiding takes too much time, and everyone multiboxes, even on raids.
I quit and it was a good decision because all of the above just pissed me off.

Well I guess good thing you told me haha. In all reality, I wish they reset the game to the first 3 games. I'd come back in a heartbeat.
Yw Bdon. You're my age, and I just felt lost, most people in EQ are married and have kids and are 30-45 year olds. I'm 28 lol and it feels kinda weird.
EQ is kind of a waste of time now cause it crossed the line from entertainment to grind. I can't stand 4 hour raids anymore and that's all there is to do at higher lvl. After the raiders log EQ is an empty space.
You can play it casually but there's no one around to play then.
It's real hard to get a good opinion on EQ because there's a lot of folks who have never played anything but EQ and can't form a decent opinion because they're unable to compare it to another game.
The only game SoE still has that's kinda cool is Vanguard I guess, but it's very low pop too.
WoW is not my favorite game but I play it now, it's ok, at least I can talk to people there you know, some are kids, but most ppl I hang with are my age and most are fun you know, so it's cool and I'm having fun most of the time, I don't raid heh and play it casually which is cool.
Yea I got what your saying.
I understand where your coming from, I guess I'm just getting kind of restless because there are no good games out with good balance. I just remember playing EQ back in the day and being happy, no game has been able to give me that back.
Its unfortunate really, but I'm so tired of WoW....
I am enjoying EQ more now than just about any time in the past.
It is true that the community is not like the community we all knew from the past, but the community from the past was not all that rosy either.
Combine is a good choice, so long as you avoid "classic" and "progression" guilds.
Whats a "classic" guild?
Classic guilds are guilds that restrict themselves. They will block themselves from any loot or zones beyond a certain expansion, set by them.
They put these restrictions on themselves.
Those guilds don't usually work out though, since there will be conflicts etc and people looting things and using zones they shouldn't according to the 'made up rules'.
I've never been in a guild like that, and they're far and few in between and never seem to stay alive.
I wish the progression servers weren't lightning speed or I'd play them.
EDIT: Totally new post.
I am not that eager to play progression ... again.
I had fun. It was not as good as I thought it would be. Yes, expansions were released too fast.
I REALLY wish I could find my disks just because I checked my account, and apparentally its free until the 25th?
There a place I can download it online?
if you download the station launcher, you can download and install any of the SOE games.
http://launcher.station.sony.com/
How positive are you of this?
This includes EQ and all expansions, correct?
i installed eq, eq2, and vanguard using this the other day. it will install the base game and what ever expansions you 'own' will be patched in. you can also select optional content to be downloaded from this as well (extra sound packs, etc).
it's really rather neat, as it'll grab your friends lists from each game and allow you to IM them in game (sends them tells).
This is actually really neat and is tempting me to try EQ 2 since I can get all expansions and adventure packs for 30 dollars. Thats a steal.
i'm, personally, kinda in limbo with MMOs at the present moment. between WoW boredom and the failure and pure un-fun every AoC class i've tried, i'm stuck loading up a game only to play it for a total of 20min feeling extremely let down and frustrated. gone are the days of looking forward to logging into a MMO and playing for hours. MMOs these days just aren't "fun" anymore, though, i can scarcely define what made EQ fun back in the day other than the fact that it was the only game of it's kind when i started playing it back in '96 (nostalgic memories of dorf quad-kiting come to mind )
perhaps i'm getting old and showing my age
You sound like I do when I'm describing EQ.
Its funny you posted this because I was JUST thinking about this. I was looking up information on EQ, EQ 2, VG, and WoW. All games that I have played.
Your feelings on playing MMO's is exactly how I feel. But I feel the need to convince myself that the games have changed and will be fun. I'm hoping too god that WAR will be as fun as I have convinced myself it will be.
I know if I install EQ I'll play it for maybe an hour, because the gear on my character is WAY outdated, and I'm not going to be able too level with groups because of how old all of my shit is.
Depressing really...
It depends what you are after really.
I returned to EQ about a few weeks ago reminicing of all the good times i had in EQ's peak.
I used to play casual even back then, so was quite happy spending most of my time solo levelling (which of course, took ages). If you want to play the game on easy mode then stay in the starting area and follow the path they set you. You can level really fast that way. This however didnt appeal to me, so straight away i exited the starting area and went to Greater Faydark to follow the old way of levelling, which is still the same.
Im loving it, i started fresh and im currently killing orcs on Orc hill looking forward to entering Clan Crushbone again. Saving my CB Belts for hand-in later on. Im doing my Ranger armor quests (which i had to write notes to remember the ingredients). I think what i like the most is that its not a game that holds your had all the way through like all MMO's ive played since EQ. Fighting an even level mob is not an easy 4 hit and he's dead fight.
Grouping is not the same though, i used to join the odd PuG here and there, and thats not really possible now. But for the Solo'er like me its great!!!
ranger armour quests? wow, i'm really going to be showing my age here, but, when i was playing, there were no real quests to speak of. sure, the odd faction turn-in here and there... and, of course, epics... but as i recall, low level gear was dropped or crafted (even then it wasn't very good).
I remember when they first implimented the lower level class sets. Was surprised they did it, but it was kind of needed.
I remember when FoB first came out, was so excited to go hang with lizards...
Really? they were there when i used to play and that was pre-Kunark.
You have to say a few key words to your guild master and you get a recipe and told what ingredients you need to combine to get your armour piece.
must be because i was 50 pre-kunark, and when kunark hit and i made an Iksar monk, he was PL'd with my druid until he could solo with his new shiny Fungi Tunic (loved the kunark exp)
I think I recall an ivy armour set for rangers.
I could have sworn that the lower level armor quests were there but didn't work for a long time. I'm not positive though, it was a long time ago...
I should turn this into THE reminscing thread
