I like the Cities series but Champion's unrestrictive character creation/advancement sounds better.....but I hope the graphics are like CoX and not too cartoony or I wont play it.....

Champions looks like it could be better gameplay wise. But their style of animation ruins the whole game for me. I don't like playing cartoons. Can't say for sure but CoX to me now is the better of the two.

Well being as champions is really COH2 i'd say that champions will win that one.

Champions Online has a lot of potential if they can deliver on the the depth of customization talked about on their site.  I personally like the cell shaded look, it brings a nice comic book feel to the game.  The only thing that makes me skeptical is they're developing it for a console platform as well.

For the most part I would say CoX.  Cryptic would want to make something distinctly different from CoX so they would seem to be copying the game they sold.  They would, however, have to make it similar enough to draw in comic fans or fans of the old pen/paper rpg.

They did mention that every player will have an arch-nemesis.  A npc that will harass the player throughout his heroic career.  If they could pull that off, that could be the thing that tips the game in their favor.

From the little bits of CO Im going to have to say 100% CO.

I love the look of the game, def more comic book looking in my opinion. Actual cut scenes with characters talking and moving thier mouth, unrestricted character advancement, and of course the biggest selling point for me, space, volcano, and jungle levels, not just all cities!

honestly, is that true? Imagine having a nemesis. That would be amazing. And you wont actually be able to defeat them till end game. and it wouldnt be easy. SICKER

Did not vote -- too early to tell.  Why?  Because before City of Heroes was released, it was described the same was as Champions Online is now, including being designed with a skill system originally.  Sure, Jack E. and team may get it right this time but it's simply way too early to speculate other than "that looks interesting.".

Well that is what Cryptic initially said would be a feature.  Of course what they say will be in the final product and what will actually be in at release are two entirely different things.  Blizzard originally said Hero Classes (yes plural) and "meaningful" pvp would be in the game at release.   Well we know how those plans went....

So yeah as long as the villain is unique to each player, this would be an awesome feature.

Wow, that looks awful.  I don't consider myself a graphics whore but that is immersion breaking for me.

could you give me some information about champions online?  because looking at their website, this comparison is akin to....

would you like this hot super model woe-man that you see in front of you...

or, would you like to take a chance at what is behind door number 2?

    what's behind the door?

    stuff.

    ok, what kind of stuff?

the stuff you get if you pick door number 2.

    is it good stuff?

    maybe.

is it stuff that is better than this super hot nymphomaniac?

    um, sure, why not.

so um, hook me up with information on champions online so i can vote on your poll.

    mmkay, thanks, drive thru.

could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?

Bit of an odd question because CoX is now old and CO still in very early stages, but it's quite possible that CO may turn out to be CoX2, contrary to hopes/expectations.

It's just that, as someone said, the features being touted for CO are the same features that were touted for CoH at one time.  My understanding of the history is that Cryptic tried the classless thing but ended up with ATs because in beta it was found that it was just too difficult to balance - too easy to either unintentially be gimped or be one of many in a City of Identical Min-Maxed Tank Mages.

However, if Cryptic do pull it off (and I have a lot of respect for them, CoX is one of the best MMOs), then it will be a great game, and better than CoX.

I am one of those who don't like the "comix" graphics though, I hope there's an option to turn off the cel-shading effect.

Can't really compare the two becouse Champions is not out yet. I like City of Heros/Villains, I have been playing it for a while and have still yet to become bored with it.

I will try CO when it is out. Then I will decied which I prefer.

From what I read, which of course will probably change before release, is that you'll pick an archtype but can choose any skills you want.  Skills that fall into your archtype cost less than skills that fall outside its role.  So your tanker-type could have blasts of some kind, they would just take up more skillpoints giving you less overall skills.

They also said that each character will have a nemesis.  An npc villain that will harass the player throughout their heroic career.  THIS is what I found most interesting personally.

Graphics wise I'd expect it to be between CoX and AoC in quality, though if it looks like the above screenshots I'll be sorely disappointed.

First off, graphics don't mean that much to me. If the game has good mechanics, that will suffice.

I voted for Champions Online. I respect the poll, but it's not entirely fair to write off City of Heroes when we really don't know what the CO product is yet.

I suppose the reasons are as follows:

    1. The Makers of CoH ARE the ones making CO, therefore I believe they create this game with ideas that will circumvent problems they had to deal with in CoH.

    2. CoH is plagued with a series of problems that I believe they will never truly overcome. Basically, they refuse to give credence to PvP. CO has an opportunity to gather this crowd.

    3. Fully open choices on powers and abilities is far superior to class or archetype based systems.

Given all this, Champions Online can still fail. And to be fair, we can't judge CO against CoH immediately. We can compare the CO release to the CoH release, I suppose. But to be consistent, we'll have to let CO get up and run with it...before we can adequately compare it to CoH, which has been around for 4 years and been able to polish itself off.

Ok Hhussk I just have to comment on your point #2.

The main reason they don't give much thought to pvp ... is the players aren't that interested.  When polled there are more players that want coop zones than pvp zones.  Dual Blades and Willpower powersets were added based off of player feedback.  If the community was screaming for pvp, I have no doubt they'd add more zones or more pvp features.

Remember well before CoV they added the Arena to give the game some pvp.  It was never used very much, at least on my server Infinity.  If pvp was so hotly in demand, the Arena would of been mass crowded from day one.  Now I do see a lot of action in Sirens Call, again on my server it seems to be the most popular pvp zone.

Just to put it out there, from what I understand, Champions is being designed with the XBOX 360 in mind first and PCs second. I believe I read that on Gamespot.com. So being skeptical about it being designed for consoles seems to be a bit unfounded.

Hit the nail on the head,

I think it would be smarter to revamp CoH to become more like Champions Online rather than to divide the two into two seperate games. Sure, you won't get revenue from selling a brand new game - but NCSoft has to worry about DC Universe Online and judging by the gameplay I saw, they're going to have to make as much content and make the game right now as fun as possible in order to keep their subscribers.

dc online will be typical of everything tainted with the 'soe' name.

champs has jack and whatever his 'vision' is; but like someone already pointed out -- a lot of things jack is touting for champs are the same things he touted for coh, back in the day.

cox has a lot (if not all) of the dev staff that it's always had.  not sure who, other than jackie, left cox for co...  powerset proliferation -- who is to say they won't continue to expand on this until you end up with pretty much any pri/sec for any AT?  new epic ATs on the horizon?  more zones? more zone revamps? more to do altogether (i.e. new map types, new settings, etc)?

then you have to consider -- what will be released and when?  will the new COx expansion hit the shelves before dc or champ?  if so, WHAT is the expansion going to offer?  a couple of alien races complete with their own ATs?  a couple of new factions, possibly composed of otherworldy ATs and alien race ATs?

so many possibilities.  but... what you have to consider with the new games -- how much content will they have on release?  IF COx somehow manages to get back on track with 3 issues a year; then you've probably got at least 3 more issues of content plus the expansion, by the time dc or champs get released.  you KNOW the amount of content of the newer games WILL be compared to the content available in COx.

now, if dc or champ have some incredibly advanced graphic engine, compared to COx; they might win a following from cox.

    time will tell.
