Bought the retail version, have some questions before I start playing...

Well, I bought the special edition of the game online for $10( its coming in 7 to 11 days, was a cheap ass to get the faster shipping) and I got a few questions before I actually start playing the game....

1- I played a few trials now and I tried a couple of the classes but I can't decide which race/class combo I want to do( Hobbit Burglar and Dwarf Champion are the two most appealing ones right now). What do you recommend as a great starter class that won't have too much trouble getting into groups?

2- I heard that Landroval and Brandywine are two of the better servers. Which one do you reccomend for the better community?

3- How does player housing work in this game? Is there a specific plot of land where someone can go and physically see it before entering( like SWG)?

4- I had the fishing hobby on my hobbit( fished for what must of been 4 hours lol) and I cought some hug goldfish. It said I can get it mounter. Does that mean I can hang it up in my house?

5- What are some pros and cons of each race, beside the description the game gives you( I know humans get some sorf ot 3k heal) is there something like this for other races?

6- Is it too late for me to start so I can enjoy the late game raids? Get to the level cap before the expansion?

7- How much time do you have to put into raiding end-game for this? Does it take you weeks to do it or can you get it done in one sitting?

8- Is there a lot of eng-game content once you hit 50?

9- There is some sort of item you can get with the special edition.. Anyone know what it is or what does it do?

Phew.. I know this is long, all help is very appreciated though :)

    First off welcome!

Now let me try to take these in order...

    1. Play whatever class you think you'd have the most fun playing.  I've tried em al,l and to be honest they're all fun.  It does take a bit of time and experiment to get the Burg class going, but I believe it is the most fun to play at the moment.  You should have no trouble finding a group/PUG with any class.  However there does seem to be a truck load of Hunters out there.  Dwarf Champ should be a great starting class for you.

    2. I have found the community to be great in just about any server.  If you like to RP I would recommend Landroval.  Unofficial RP server.

    3. Housing is in a specific "Homestead" instance.  But yes you can enter houses and take a look at some.  Others might be able to answer more here for you though.

    4. Yep and there are alot of other types of fishes out there as well.  Also if you're luck you can get a rare drop off a creep and take it to a taxidermist to be stuffed to put in your house.

    5. Wow to many differences to describe here (or maybe I'm just lazy, hehe).  Others can once again help more here.  However you really won't notice much in the way of major game play differences.

    6.  Depends on how much you play really.  If your hard core and level out then yes you might get to cap before the expansion.  I would suggest taking your time and enjoy the sights of M-E.

    7. Don't know haven't done any raiding.  Not my cup of tea.

    8. Yes Turbine has added a lot of new content for 50+, heck they have even added a new zone for 40+ characters.

    9. Sorry I don't know that one...

Hope this help a little.  Others can help fill in the gaps.  Anyway enjoy the game!

Here's my 2 cents on the classes:

I've rolled all 7 classes, so I can have my own opinion of the classes, and to best understand their abilities and roles.   I  have 3 level 50's and the rest at least level 22.

Minstrels, LoreMasters, & Burgs are technical classes that require more strategy and combos, yet are relatively versitile with their roles.  Burgs do a lot for group support, but kind of behind the scenes and sometimes don't get the credit they deserve.    Minstrels are staples in any upper-level questing, so you'll have lots of employment and the life-saver.   LoreMasters are awesome in the right hands, but I must be doing something wrong, because my LM died more than all other 6 characters combined.   You have to sit WAY back and let someone else get their weapons bloody, while you support and control crowds.

Champs & Hunters are very focused...  hack-n-slash or point-n-shoot.    I got bored with champion, though they level up very quickly...  probably the fastest.  Cutting up multiple targets rapidly with their AOE attacks.  I enjoy the hunter immensly, though the attacks are samey.  Bow attacks are very elegant, imo.

Guardians are my least favorite class.   Kind of a grind to get through the lower levels, if you like to play alone... but they are the most sought after classes for end-game raiding as the Tank.

Captains are very group oriented as a support class.   If you don't plan on teaming up as much as possible, don't try this class first, as most of your moves won't come into full effect playing solo.

The other poster said it best.  Play what you want to play.   Because odds are, you will spend a lot of time on them.

I levelled my Burg to 50 first, then my captain, then my Hunter.   You're always biased to your first character - kind of like a first kiss - but I'm tempted to say the hunter is the most fun.   That would certainly explain why there are a ton of them (which there are).   Probably has something to do with Legolas being argubly the coolest guy in the movies.    And as a result, it's tougher for hunters to get into end-game raiding.    I'm in a group of about 25 people who raid (many with alts) and there's a line hunters trying to get in...   My captain always gets a front row seat, though.

Sounds liek everything has been said, only 1 peice of info i think should be added: I suggest you play the dwarf guardian first. Burglars are more difficult to play as a first char. They only get rly powerful around lvl 30, but after lvl 30 they are very good in pvmp and qutie good in raids

I'm not a no life that sits in front of his computer all day long, I'm an intern that sits in front of his computer all day long.

Most have already been answered but Ill give you my view :)

    1. Choose whatever you like.. all classes are importnt in groups.. hunter/champion is probably the easiset and fastest to play!

    2. Dont know about the US servers...

    3. Housing is in instanced homesteads with premade house... There are small house, deluxe house and kinship house... its pretty limited right now

    4. Yes alot of fishes can be taken to a taxidermist and made into a housing decoration.. and in book 14 they will implement: "multi-fish trophies that sure look cool on a player house's wall but which will require players to catch every variety of a particular fish. " (from gamespy article)

    5. The different races will all get some unique skills... for example hobbits get a feign death instead of the 3k heal men got and elves get a skill that gives +75% parry for a while I think..

    6.  Well that depends on how much you play... you could probably reach lvl cap in 1-2 months if you want... then you will have some time to raid before the expansion... the good thing is that as soon as you reach 50 in this game you dont have to "gear-up" or grind any reputation to get acces to raids or dungeons! They are all open to you!

    7. Not sure what you mean.. there is 2 raid-instances in the game and it usually takes 2 evenings to clear them if you know what you are doing.. this is not a hardcore game so even the raids are pretty casual-friendly and you dont have to sarcifice your sociale life to raid!

    8. There is more end-game content than you will ever see before the expansion probably... dungeons, raids, epic quests, PvMP, crafting, trait and rep grinds etc :)

    9. Sorry dont know about US speial edition...

    If WoW = The Beatles
    and WAR = Led Zeppelin
    Then LotrO = Pink Floyd

Every race has its own traits, and you unlock them by completing deeds like defeating Goblins and Trolls.  (Each race has their own hatred toward certain groups.)

I mainly play a dwarf and one of their racial traits is Dwarf Endurance which grants extra vitality to your fellowship.
