Let me tell you about AOC from an ex fan POV

So these crooks at Funcom created a game called Age of Conan. They lied, took everyone's money and when questioned they ban you just that simple. Just the fact that you cannot question this company without being threatened is enough to make me want to puke. I was like Protus at one time defending them left in right hoping it would spur change. Then one day reality slapped me in the face when a long time friend just walked away without saying a word and went back to WOW.

Clearly they are in bed with Gold Sellers they even back a fansite that has ads for it. That site also has links to another site selling the AOC stat changer which is a program that steals your account. They could care less because once your account gets hacked you have to start over. There is no account restoration nor is there any item or gold tracking. They know the game is addicting even if it crashes, locks up your PC or you have to reinstall the thing 5 times a week because the files corrupt themselves. The game is beyond broken and what im talking about here is the tip of the iceberg.

I wont even get seep into pvp balance, overpowered mobs, bosses that randomly walk across a zone and kill you, lack of groups as server pops sink, stats that don't even work, feats/talents that are not working properly and so much more. To say all that is wrong with this game right now would require writing a book. There are EXPLOITS GALORE in this game ones that allows players to own you. Others that allow you to walk over mountains and hell you can even swim up rivers at god speed.

They banned me for speaking truth on the forums against their lies and cover ups so i've contacted the BBB about it and Consumer Affairs is next. I will take my complaints and voice them as far as needed to insure it sends a warning to others. If they do not refund me the over $70 spent to date to play Gamestop and Funcom will both be getting chargebacks. I will also do everything in my power to make Gamestop and others pull this game from the shelves. They are not a US company and they do not bill US customers from a US bank therefore they should not even be allowed to have an office on American soil.

All MMO players need to start standing up and speaking out. The games you love will not shrivel up and die because you said something sucks. It will however the developers to improve things and if they ban you then others need to speak up. I'm proud to say that many AOC players spoke up after my ban and it opened their eyes. There is no way in hell they can stop that train wreck now unless they ban hundreds of customers or shut the forums. My ban was like a match lighting all the combined fuel that had already been poured and now its out of control but only because they chose to light that match.

We the gaming community needs to teach not only Funcom but all game developers that we expect more then polished turds for our money. If a developer cannot deliver a solid product they should stop trying and go work for someone else to learn the right way. Games being released these days are all following the original WOW launch of failure and this cannot continue.

Sorry, I disagree. I'm loving the game at the moment. I also understand business and how if I have hit my budget and the only way to keep a project going is to release it half finished to give me more capital, than so be it I will launch it and hope it gives me the funding I need to finish it while it is in play.

I have played just about every MMORPG out there, and while this game has its faults it blows a few of the latest debacles of gaming out of the water. Namely Vanguard and Tabula Rasa. Sorry to burst your bubble, but I wanted to show you that not every customer is unsatisfied.

  • KaylinKaylin Member Posts: 41

I actually went from AoC to Vanguard, just to illustrate how everyone is different.

Yep great broken game that's why you are playing it to kill time while you wait for a better game.

Either way my thread is not about those other games failing its about AOC which is failing. I will be getting my refund one way or another and that you and Funcom can both take to the bank. Others should follow suit as they get charged a $25-35 penalty for every charge back made. If you paid $15 for your first month and they get charged a $15 + $35 fee so think about how much it could end up costing them. This would also hurt the investors who forced the company to try and sell us fools gold.

You know what you'll get from this crowd?

    "Lol noob get a life!"

"Who cares, you're just a stupid hater!"

"Blah blah go back to WoW, you don't need to tell everyone you left!"

There's alot of people like you, yeah, but there's also alot of people who like it too. I simply think Funcom focused too much on the "mature" settings and graphics, and ran out of money. Now they'll still have plenty of supporters so they can buy all the band-aids they want and try to fix it.

A human and an Elf get captured by Skaven. The rat-men are getting ready to shoot the first hostage with Dwarf-made guns when he yells, "Earthquake!" The naturally nervous Skaven run and hide from the imaginary threat. He escapes. The Skaven regroup and bring out the Elf. Being very smart, the Elf has figured out what to do. When the Skaven get ready to shoot, the Elf, in order to scare them, yells, "Fire!"

I'm one of those who still love this game, but I must agree with you on a lot of things. Sure as the last poster said the y ran out of money and forced to come out with an unfinished game. I hope the game will be fixed and ready to kick before October. If this does not happen I will go back to the Lord of the Rings on line and its new expansion. :D

  • jybgessjybgess Member Posts: 355

I agree with the OP 100%. We need more people like you. Funcom lied to me as well.

  • AOC-SucksAOC-Sucks Member Posts: 13

They have made money since release and they had $20 mil left after launch.

I don't buy it and they have not even come clean if that was the case. Instead they pretend the game is fine knowing that many of us are spending over $1-2k to upgrade our machines. Had most stayed in WOW for one thing it would have been a hell of allot cheaper. Again there was a point which this game had me hooked at first. I became a big fan myself but spent so much time on the forums and not enough time playing to see the truth. After barely even being able to step inside Villas on a machine that has hit over 280fps indoors you know something is fudged.

  • LesrachLesrach Member UncommonPosts: 112

I am sry to hear you have had such a bad experiance with AoC. And I feel the behaviour from any gaming company as you described it is unexceptable.

I myself find the game a lot fun and very addictive. Now during this month and a half time of playing I've seen few bugs and none which would have been game breaking for me. Ok bugged undoable quests are pain but I've seen about 5 of those.

I feel you speak through huge frustration and I can understand why but, not everyones gaming experience is as bad as yours. You have been one of the unlucky ones. At least for me the game has been a blast.

I spoke out against gold selling which made them get so defensive all threads related to it were removed. No other complaints about anything made by me have been touched to date. Glorbo the mod warned me to shut my mouth by PM and handed me an infraction. I refused to be a little lamb being lead to slaughter for my loins and cancelled so they banned me. Had they not banned me it may have gone down different while the gold issue would have been more well know. Its going to cost them much more now and the fact that people are missing is an important one. Accounts are getting hacked because of software being advertised on sites that Funcom themselves are endorsing. Gold selling in the MMO world is the root of all evil and the ones who make money selling it do not care who they hurt to get it.

I couldn't agree with you more!

The sad thing the fanbois are doing is break the chance for a real change. No other industry is allowed to sell unfinished crap or lie and cheat. But we take it down like doormats.

Of course an mmo will have unexpected bugs or servers will be having trouble sometimes, but lying about content, not testing a major part of the game, and generally just conning your customers should not be rewarded with 15$ a month.

Unfortunately too many people just suck it up and some rabid fanboy will storm in and say everything is working as intended or WoW had a bad launch too. A deliberate attempt at excusing the extremely poor business practices of Funcom.

If people did stand up like you said we could pull the rug under fraudsters like FC in no time.

Millions of Americans got sucked into thousands of dollars of credit card trouble, and milloions got scuked in to AoC web site features :).

    What's a matter with Americans ?

How does the legal system get away with what it does?........  Well thats an easy one, kick backs and retainers from large corporations....... they complement each other, and the people pay the price !

AoC even went so far as using people to post propaganda on forums. Were they  payed off?  Its hard to say.

After reading some of the Closed beta testers, I had realized what Funcom is all about. Is that not why we come to forums like this to get the REAL story ? come on everyone get with it !!!

I hope it works out for you AOC-sucks

We all realise why they released early..  but sorry thats no excuse.  They take a risk by doing that.  If they cant produce a decent product within the timeframe and budget set, then their project planning is to blame.

Yes all games have bugs and stability issues etc.. at launch, but I think we all have to realise there is a limit to what is acceptable.

I wouldn't label everyone playing as a fanboi , A fanboi is a person who blindly defends a game ,With no logic behind their responses . Sure you can blame customers for developer short comings , But customers usually look for one thing . Fun, if they find it you can't blame them for exercising it .

I quit for now for the same reason anyone else did, It's not ready blah. blah.. I won't get into it . But I am not going to blame other players for the state of the game . And I'm not going to attack people who disagree , I like to show a bit more tact.

Seriously though..is the game really broken? or is it rather people dont like the style of the game? i mean i rarely see a bug and when i do it's hardly game breaking..mostly just a quest has to be restarted or i have to log out/in to fix it. i agree with a lack of content but hey im an old eq player so new games to me are always going to lack content at higher levels at the start. i do hope they have more for me later though.

If you were treated like that then i hope they get what they deserve because that is ridiculous! bo one should be treated like that and i have to admit to being suprised by it.

just to point out...i havent PVP'ed other than single played stuff at min so i havent came across most of the broken are's :) other than that is anything broken PVE wise?

The problem with Funcom is that they only care about being a mediocre studio. Look at their history and tell me that this is a company that truly tries really hard to be the best in the business. It's just not true, and when you surround yourself with average talent, you get average results. That's how business works whether you're in entertainment, finance or whatever.

When Funcom gets serious about being a top tier developer, then maybe we will see some different results. Until then, they're just another group fo wannabes hacking away at a failed product.

To the OP and others: you people want gamers to stand up for ourselves, yet you are the same folks that gladly gave yet another developer your money for a premature product. Beta testers left and right were saying the game was not ready... what more do you need? Yet, you went and bought it anyway!  I, for one, held off because I didn't buy all of the hype, I listened to the beta testers and I am damn glad that I did.

If you really want to take a stand, don't jump on the hype bandwagon and buy products that aren't ready. Quit talking about it and do it. You wouldn't buy a car that was half built, or a TV that only worked some of the time, so why do it with anything else?

Hey there "AoC-Sucks", you probably don't know me, but I just wanted to vet you and your post.

Can you tell me what your character name and history (max level, crafting experience, pvp experience, server) was? Perhaps give us a link to your posts over at the funcom boards? In any event, talk about your experiences, actual ones in the game. As well, I would like to know how long you were subscribed, if you pre-ordered and so on. Were you in a guild? If so, what guild. What's the guild look like today?

All that information would be invaluable...no need to post passwords or priviledged info, of course. I just want to be able to say, after you discuss this, "Yes, this guy really liked the game, and then he gave up on Age of Conan".

When I viewed your topic, I noticed there was an extremely low number of posts from you. And my immediate reaction was to question your validity. It would be extremely easy for someone to register a new username here and basically start spreading mis-information.

I didn't say any of them were MMO developers.

As far as I know, the MMO you're looking for isn't available to the public. Maybe its the one that BioWare hasn't announced yet, or perhaps Bethesda.

    HOly cow,

Its a game man.  This isnt a master plan by a company to take over the world.  For crying out loud your government lies to ya everyday. Save that anger for them.  This is a game you can play or not play. Also its an MMO they start out like this. WoW for the first 3 months had lots and lots of problems as well but ya stick with it and it turned out great.  Somtimes the devolopers have goals just like every other company in the world and it takes longer to meet those goals.  That doesnt mean they wont get in there.....( excuse my poor grammer )

There are some polished mmos that come out once in a while: guild wars (not a true mmo but still better than wow/aoc/many others), lotro.

If you really want to get your money back, read every single bit of info included in the manual/ on the box to check that funcom didnt write something like: "all the features listed above are big lies, the game is still a rough beta and we plan to closer all servs and run away with your money in 2 months".

Then grab quite a few more ppl that bought the game. Not kids or 20 year olds that are still students and just jack off smoke weed and play mmo all day long. Get adults that have a job and family, write a leter to whatever kind of consumer protection organisation you got in your country. And make them pay.

Not because funcom is a really crappy mmo company, but because it's time to show mmo companie that we are tired of getting milked and that lowering the quality of the products wont go unoticed.

And if this fails stop flaming in the forums and go torch the funcom headquarters.

I'm not a no life that sits in front of his computer all day long, I'm an intern that sits in front of his computer all day long.

Besides flat out misrepresenting there game before launch with features that they new were not going to be in at launch along with no DX10. Funcoms handleing of the folks who paid for the game on there forums will cost them the most. When end of the year statements go out to the stock holders that may be another fire storm.

Funcom stock price have decreased over 50% in about 1.5 months. Future seems bright for them....
