...and ive been nothing but impressed.
This game "feels" very much like what Diablo 2 would be if it were set in a post-apocalyptic future and had a 1st person view feature.
Im having a blast. Nothing says "fun" like mowing down a horde of demons and undead monsters with a heavily modified fire-slinging rifle of death while your little bot army follows you around, helping out here and there.
I got over level 45 in AoC on two different characters within a month of release (( and im a roleplayer who spends alot of time just hanging out talking / playing out stories with other characters, so that is VERY fast for me )) and I am already bored out of my mind with that game. Having seen whats to come with HG:L 's 2.0 and 2.1 patches, I think ive found my new game for the summer !

Yeah, I heard that it's improved a lot since the release.
Might give it another go, it's been collecting dust on that shelf for too long...
However, I'm not really convinced it's going to do much for me until they implement some quality PvP modes.
yet another meaningless topic.. who cares really??? I mean why the urge to tell the rest of the world that you're going to play something else? if you had something important to post it would be different but this is just waste of forum space am I afraid.
Apparently 2.1 is the PvP patch, and its coming soonish according to what ive read.
And to the other guy who posted saying this thread is meaningless/useless. Well, sure it is, everything on this site is if you cut to the core of it. Its a site dedicated to the meaningless/useless passtime we all enjoy, and if I want to post about how im having fun with a new game, in that game's dedicated forum, ill do it as much as I please.
You sir, can kindly STFU and GTFO.
And your post added what exactly? It's a huge waste of forum space...
To the OP, thanks for posting. I have a Gamestop gift card burning a hole in my pocket and have been thinking of picking up HG:L. For only $20, it seems well worth it.
I have the exact opposite feeling myself. HG:L is a horrible disappointment that gets boring quickly. Add to the fact that they shipped it out with most of its subscriber featureset unimplemented, with more of it still unimplemented at half a year after the launch date, and you have a major debacle that just doesn't live up to its hype. All you need to do is read the developer's rant about the game to understand what a colossal failure it really is.
But, if you enjoy it, more power to you.
Its nice to play a more modernized diablo style game.
Thats what I loved about it as well, and the patches are doing extremely well in getting the game all cleaned up and adding new content.
At $20 and v2.0 coming, it's becoming a pretty nice value game. Hardly the vision they had for it, I'm buying 2 most likely when V2.0 gets nice feedback from it's fans.
I kind of stalled out on this when I hit the third nearly identical quest hub. Still, a lot of the changes sound pretty good, and it's still on my hard-drive. I may stick my head in after the next big patch.
I don't want to write this, and you don't want to read it. But now it's too late for both of us.
IMO HG:L is now at the point where it should have gone live. I've only ran into a few bugs and they were cosmetic. The classes are more balanced and the content is continually growing. The game was released way too early (I'm betting EA has something to do with the release date).
If you like Action RPG's you will probably like HG:L. It is definitely the best graphic hack-n-slash game out right now. and you can purchase HG:L for under $20 at Amazon.com now.

I'd sure say it's worth it for $20. The game may not be all-encompasing like other MMOs, but it will likely give you a month's worth (or more) of quality entertainment, and you can always come back at a later time as they release new patches. Is this game great? No. Is it a lot of fun? Pretty much. It just gets old relatively quick, and you will likely not subscribe to it on a continual basis. But as far as patches go, it's only $10 for a month of new updated content, and you can rejoin/cancel to your heart's content.
IMO we should be thankful to HG:L... It seems that its rushed and botched release was the proverbial "straw that broke the camel's back."
The amazing level of tolerance and support EA is giving to Warhammer could be the direct result of HG:L's flop. If it weren't for HG:L it is very probable that they would have rushed WAR almost a year ago and that would have been catastrophic.
Glad to see EA finally realized that it is better to wait for a game to be ready so it can have a chance of being a hit rather than rushing it out to grab a few measly bucks before the word of mouth buries it.
I'll have to see it to believe it. EA has a long history of money grabs and I don't see them changing anytime soon. EA's philosophy is to get people to buy as many games as possible, and if this means ending support for a good game to push another (ala BF1942 to all the other crap iterations or the Madden yearly update), then that's what EA will do. Don't get me wrong, EA's released some high quality games in its time, and it will continue to do so. It's just what they do after release that bugs me. It's like they completely forget that a game exists other then performing the absolute minimum mandatory maintenance.

Well IMO they finally got a bit wiser and FINALLY realized that single-player and massively-multiplayer games require different development, release and post-release strategies to turn maximum profit.
Their main motivation is still the cold, hard cash no doubt about it, but it is quite obvious that MMO potential is wasted if you do the single-player strategy - sell as many boxes before the buyers catch up.. Lolzor, they destroyed YEARS AND YEARS of nice fat subscriptions because they rushed to sell a few more boxes on Halloween (because it's like, you know a horror game... duh.. like they're selling disposable Halloween costumes rather than a subscription-based service that works over years and years).
For 50% more initial investment (in time and dev costs) they could have turned 500%+ more profit over time. Pure cold math. Nothing mystical or magical about it. Someone screwed EA for a lot of greenbacks by pushing HG:L out too early. Too bad HG:L had to be the IT, but I'm glad the message finally sunk in there.
Agreed, markoraos. When you really think about it it's amazing how much money EA likely lost because of the early release. To play devil's advocate, we don't know for sure that it was EA who pushed the release, so I suppose they may not be the one to blame. After all, they were technically the "publisher". So I suppose it could have been other investors who pushed the release, in which case we can blame them for their lack of vision.
Because this is a free forum
I was thinking of checking it out (passed it by on release because of what I had heard) but... i can really only tolerate 1 diablo style game every 5 years. And with diablo 3 coming out, I think thats the one thats going to meet my quota.
Waiting for: A skill-based MMO with Freedom and Consequence.
Woe to thee, the pierce-ed.
There are certainly plenty of Diablo aspects, particularly when it comes to loot and "randomized" dungeons. However, this game is 3D and to be honest the gameplay is quite impressive, and very immersive. It's just that there aren't enough tilesets to truly enjoy the gameplay over the long term. In reality, this game is not like Diablo 3 will be, at least in regards to graphics and gameplay. It's only $20, and I'd still recommend giving it a shot.
I'm also planning on giving this a go. Can't say I'll play long, but I will end up playing.
Looking for a trial...
So in like 3 weeks we'll not see you trolling HG:L? sorry if I don't hold my breath.
