Stay away - stay far away from this one.

Funcom is company that has no repsect for their gamers like shown repeatedly over the last 2 months.   Their goal is to make money - not make games for the gamers.

If you want to enjoy long term MMO game then stay away from the shallow single player gameplay of AOC.  Belive me - you will thank me l8ter.

Isn't it some 30 gigs? Or more? I wouldn't want to spend that much time downloading...

...But I guess it saves a tank of gas right?

    --------------------------------------
A human and an Elf get captured by Skaven. The rat-men are getting ready to shoot the first hostage with Dwarf-made guns when he yells, "Earthquake!" The naturally nervous Skaven run and hide from the imaginary threat. He escapes. The Skaven regroup and bring out the Elf. Being very smart, the Elf has figured out what to do. When the Skaven get ready to shoot, the Elf, in order to scare them, yells, "Fire!"

    Order of the White Border.

I got the email reminder as well. What I don't get is why they are charging the same amount to download the game ($49.99) as buying it in a retail store. You don't get CDs, Manuals, Box, Artwork, etc. Shouldn't they charge less for the digital download?

I agree, they should!  They are just ripping people off by doing this.  I'll wait till the game hits the bargain bin and I can pick it up for $20 and have the discs in hand.

    Wow... just wow

Not even a discount and the download is big enough to fill 66% of my monthly download limit. (Which is $50/month)

So that would mean $82 total for the game... pretty funny

The probem is, if they don't keep it the same price then everyone and their mothers would be complaining about the fact that they didn't offer the cheaper download version originally and if they had they would've bought that instead of paying extra for the DVDs and so on and so forth.

Seriously now, i dont understand why digital download products are sold for the same price as on the shelve products.   Clearly making a box, manual, cd's must cost something.   How come digital download is the same price ?

That's what I'm waiting for too. I was totally wanting to play this game, but now with all the complaints I will wait till it goes down in price.

they charge what people will pay.  as long as people are willing to pay full price for digital download, they'll charge it.

Everything creates huge amounts of negativity on the internet, that's what the internet is for: Negativity, porn and lolcats.

Then people need to get smacked upside the head! Come on people, enough with the impulse buying!

It's your money, your choice.  You want the convenience of a digital download - take it.  You want a box - get one.  You didn't have a choice before, now you do.

Yes just checked price at local games store in UK £26.99 inc VAT  and Funcom want £38+

You guys act as if funcom is the only one that charges same price as retail for Digital download. All of the game companies charge the same price for digital download as retail from what I have seen. When Bioshock came out I downloaded it for 50 dollars on PC and at stores it costs same price, and same goes for other games I have purchased through digital download.

I mainly see it as a convenience factor personally. There are times when I wanted to play a game badly that recently came out, but it's 11pm at night. So I go off and purchase the download and start playing a little bit later. Additionally, I do not need to goto the store searching for it.

I still enjoy buying the actual physical product from stores, and distance isn't much of a factor for me when grabbing games because I have like 6-7 game specialty stores in a 5-10mile radius and best buy, 2 super walmarts and super target nearby as well. But the digital download is still more convenient.

    Doubt it!

It would be like complaining that, if you had known it was going to be in the bargain bin three months latter at a quarter the price, you wouldn't have bought it as soon as it was released and can I have the difference refunded as well please? :)

Digital download is a lot cheaper than the retail price in Australia which is about $86 USD.

Exactly. Funcom is not ripping anyone off. If you want to have the box, a paper copy of the manual and the actual physical cds then go to a shop and buy them. If you dont want that stuff to take up space on your shelf then download it. No-one is holding a gun to your head - the choice is yours. If you think the price of the online download is unfair then simply dont download it and then you have not been ripped off. If you think it is fair then go and download it and you are happy.

    Its really simple.

....and yes Funcom wants your money. Every company does. Thats what companies do.....they make money. Welcome to the real world.

The word Play above should read: Play in a bug-ridden, unbalanced, unfinished world.

Unfortunatly, quite true. Are stats on armor and weapons still bugged by the way?

The news is about the now available digital download of AoC, not about how bad AoC is. Seriously, why do you have to flame every single thread about AoC, no matter what the thread is about?!

If you don't like it, move along or go play WoW.

Be warnned the game play you receive may not be what was promised Funcom is working hard getting the game ready for Xbox 360 while working on a new MMO in development.

to be honest i think the xbox360 version may be where age of conans real success will be . the general concensus i getting from people who ve played age of conan is that it has some good ideas but it has some very deap seated problems with the graphics engine and that it is bugged to hell . i think we all wanted this to be a success but most of us dont want to play a game thats bugged to death and was released to soon . fair play to anyone who enjoys it . most people i know have played their first month and not continued thier sub . i would wait for a free trial before bothering to try conan . personally i think its unlikly they ll offer one . partly because the download is so massive and partly because funcom are proberbly pretty worried about how this game is going and know that the best way to recoup some of thier losses is to try and sell as many units as they can . only a minority of people seam to be subscribing .

to be honest i m not sure funcom will survive this .

Funcom continues to drive this game further into the ground.  There is no hope for it.  I can't imagine how long it would take to download such a game, your ISP would think you have a major file sharing operation going on.

    Another dumb move.

If you are still playing this game, be prepared for the ghost town it will be when War comes out.  Funcom will be merging servers early next year to compensate.
