    I have to admit.

I didn't think it was going to be good...I was wrong

it was an awesome film, sure it was less than a half hour with all the scenes, but they retold those same scenes, making it a deep, interesting movie.

(by half an hour i mean the main three they showed, broken sword, snow, and uhm..the other guy, lol)

though it was placed...errr....whenever the chinese dynasties were like 1700s, just a guess, but it did seem like the movie was trying to make the point towards modern day that peace should be in the world....hence all the war against terrorism

    u get that same feeling

I'm a big fan of low-tech kungfu in my kungfu movies, so, in that respect Hero loses. However, the way is story is told- using many viewpoints and even a color theme for each depiction- is simply marvelous. I enjoyed how Tony Leung would be portrayed as a righteous man in one version of the story, and then a jealous lover in another. Zhang Ziyi is doomed to portray either the useless sidekick or someone's whipping girl, however. She serves little purpose other than to provide a pretty face- Although it must be said that Maggie Cheung has become quite the sexy mama at age 40. And at the very end of the movie, after seeing all the main characters die pretty much 3 times each, you can't help but exclaim "They got him! Yeah!" I laughed out loud when there was a man shape in the arrows, when they fired at the gate. I just knew Nameless got away! And then I see his body and I say "Damn, Nameless got PUNKED!"

I defiantly agree with that, great story, and great unrealistic action, this is a very awesome movie, if you haven't seen it by now then shame on you

Don't you worry little buddy. You're dealing with a man of honor. However, honor requires a higher percentage of profit

    *Spoiler Spoiler*

like it a lot but some parts were dumb.... like I understand why broken sword died, and then snow killed herself... but it seemed like everyone started to kill themselves.... ow yeah and the king when he fought sounded like h was a motocycle, and was shifting gears... so that kinda made me mad.... but real good over all

This movie was done before the war on terrorism but I get where your coming from. ;) I loved the movie, it was a work of art and will quickly be a classic. The story grabs your gut and twists it with every emotional pain each character feels, by the end of the movie you have no goodguy to cheer for and no bad guy to boo at, which in most movies would be a bad thing, but this movie is based around ideals and not characters and was done very well. :)

To those of you who like classic kung-fu I understand but you have to accept the style used in Hero and CTHD. They both are embodiments of their beliefs...obviously flying through the air like that would concievably be impossible but the fighting style teaches you to excede your human limitations and that is what the beauty of the fighting is. ::::28::

Uhh this movie was directed by an American in China and America. It is not China made, so it ACTUALLY IS metaphorical.

    You have been owned.

Zhang Yimou was the director & Producer of Hero. He was born in China. And from the sounds of it he still is a Chinese citizen. And the film I'm pretty sure was only made in China for the whole fact that it was released two years ago in china and took two years to get released here.

    That's what I'm talkin bout.

How did I get owned? Did I miss something, like Finwe said it was made in China for the Chinese people a little over 2....and Zhang DEFINATELY is Chinese. Besides when did I say this movie wasn't metaphorical? I think you need to read straight before you start waving your I'm 13 so I know more than the rest of the world attitude.

BTW I know sometimes I sound like I'm insulting people in my posts but unless I directly say a statement like the one above towards you I'm not insulting you. It is sometimes hard to convey emotions across a text based world. ::::05::

    ****Possible Spoiler*****

All of the people saying this movie is calling for peace need to re-watch the movie. Yes the end result was for a peaceful solution, but if you couldn't read fast enough then you missed the fact that all the other kingdoms had to be Conquered first. Through war there comes peace.

I think someone is under the QUITE false assumption that Tarantino directed it. He didn't, watch the preview/trailor closer, it says "Presented by Tarantino", meaning he was the one that brought it to the US. It was indeed filmed in China a little over 2 years ago, and directed by Yimou Zhang, who was born in Xi'an, Shaanxi, China.

Read about the director HERE and the movie HERE.

I have this movie on dvd and watched it a few times, it is a beautiful movie with a good story, don't get to political or you can say that from every movie that shows a flag or something (like most hollywood movies).

So you have the original Chinese version? While there isn't any rela difference as far as I can tell, then again I haven't seen the original in over a year, I want to find the Chinese version. lol. None of the import stores in my area are carrying it since it got released here. Maybe they will once it is out of theatres. *sigh*

That IS the original version, all Tarantino did was bring it to the US and put it in our theatres. No changes or refilming was done. What you saw in theatres was filmed in 2002 in China.

Ok my bad then. I thought Tarantino directed it. Seemed like a PG-13 Tarantino film to me.

I did read what you said, go do a search for it, you can get the all/any region encoded DVD all over the place and it's the same as whats in Theatres now. I haven't seen an official US released DVD (Region 1) version of it, but the "Any Region" versions should work fine.
