Exclusive 38 Studios "Copernicus" Environment Concept Art.

UnionUnion Member CommonPosts: 46

Curt Schilling was on the Jace Hall Show today, (I know, I've never heard of it either.) and he offered a peek at some of the concept art from 38 Studios top secret mmo, codenamed, Copernicus. I know it's way way way too early to tell how this thing is going to turn out, but I thought the art looked terrific and I'm pretty excited about the team that has been assembled at 38S.

Here is the video with the interview:

I found some screen caps as well:

Definitely some scary-talented folks over there.

    Nice captures.

    I'm optimistic about this game.

    Some things here.

He's a big fan of Everquest.

The main designer of EQ just left EQ and joined them. Which sort of .. in a way .. weird. Since EQ wasn't doing too well when he left for 38.

I always saw it as a stab and run kinda thing. "I know the game is in a bad state, oops, my bad,  so I'm going to bail on you guys and go to another company". Uhm yeah....

I'm not sure about this project to be honest, there's so much hype out there nowadays. The guy is a big fan of EQ and seem to reqruit people who agree with him on concept alone.

Uhmmm, I'm not sure but it sounds like the guy just wants to recreate his "Vision" (where have we heard this before) of EQ.

Well from the make-up of the team they have assembled - It probably be safe to assume fantasy genre.  (ex-EQ(SOE)- exevs, R.A., etc.)

I could care less fantasy or not - I think the MMO community in general is in dire need of a shot in the arm.  I have my hopes high for 38 studios - but then again, remember Brad McQuaid - and where did that leave us.

As someone who was bamboozled by Brad, I totally understand where you are coming from. I think the difference between Brad McQuaid and Schillings team, is Brad was all about "the vision", and it turned out that the vision was just some marketing B.S. to pump up those who still held onto the romantic vision of EQ1.

I have much more faith in the 38 Studios team, because most of the participants have proven themselves over and over again. Also Curt doesn't come across as the "visionary demigod" type. At the risk of sounding patronizing or obvious, he seems to be much more of a team player. Instead of leading by the nose, whilst hailing his propheting vision, he is assembling an (pardon the pun) all-star team of developers, who bring with them a wealth of expertise in their respective fields.

Will the game be any good? I suppose that is anyone's guess, at this point. But I believe there is good reason to be optimistic about 38S. I'm as jaded an MMO player as they come, and I told myself that I would never buy into any game hype ever again --but this one has got me. We are still over 2 years away from any release, but I will be following this one closely.

I dunno, maybe I'm just a glutton for punishment.

Think the new term for "Vision" is "essence".

No it's still "VISION". A baseball player's "vision" this time.

I can't wait for this game to fail.
