Hi
just wanted to post a positive comment about eve.
Iv been playing for a few months now and can't belive i'v put off playing eve for so long, its the mmo i'v been searching for all these years.
The thing i love about it the most is how it screams "who the hell do you think you are" at me all the time. eve dosnt cuddle me and tell me im the hero and how its my fate to save the universe it kicks me down and says stay down...an yet i keep comming back for more. eve really feeds my need for a challange and as a result i'v had to take a one week break as im getting to addicted. The community is one of the best i'v ever encountered even if they aint all freindly at least their not immuture.any way rant over
fly safe

this ain't yo parents' MMO, that's for sure. it's definitely the extreme sports version of MMOs.
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?
Welcome to the cold, dark side of MMOs cold...very cold.
p.s. don't forget the hardeners.
Glad you are enjoying it , nice to see something positive about a game for a change
Isn't EVE great? I love what the OP loves about it. It doesn't hold my hand, and it makes me work for everything.
My EVE accounts are about a year and a half old, but I chose to quit about a year ago due to an inadequate computer. I've recently returned with a better computer and I'm loving the game even better now than then.
During my time away I played some WoW, it's fun for awhile, but I can never get into it because there is NO RISK, and where there is no risk the rewards are pretty insignificant, IMO. In EVE, I can lose everything for the tiniest error, or just bad luck. I love the way EVE makes me think before I act. In that regard it is a lot like Lineage 2, but I like EVE's skill system 100x better than L2's level system.
And yes, I too wish I had found EVE a lot sooner and had the resources to really enjoy it. But, as they say, better late than never!
I miss old EVE, the game was so different back then. I'm not talking about tech 2 and everything (though, there were a LOT less choices of ships)... I mean population.
Back then I could find a system, and hide there. 0.4-0.1 was decently safe because there were less pirates around. they were still there, but you could do a better job of avoiding them, making 0.4-0.1 a bit more accessable to people.
I wish you could have seen EVE back then. they keep expanding 0.0 space but not lowsec empire space, which I find sad.
But I digress. I'm glad you're finally playing the game, and wish you luck in the most hardcore MMO I've ever played.
Everything creates huge amounts of negativity on the internet, that's what the internet is for: Negativity, porn and lolcats.
EVE is a game where everything is possible.Thats what makes it special. The pvp system is extremely realistic (one reason i am playing)
all in all a very intense game.
Personally i find EvE very safe myself with few agressors if any and perfectly peacefull.
Then again i am a 4 year vet so i know how to avoid trouble if i need to as well as how to intimidate the rowdy Pirate noobs
Another great example of Moore's Law. Give people access to that much space (developers and users alike) and they'll find uses for it that you can never imagine. "640K ought to be enough for anybody" - Bill Gates 1981
They recently added a whole new lowsec region.
I find it good that they found a way to populate lowsec a bit. It was empty safe for hordes of pirates and people going from empire to 0.0.
I agree with the OP and I am going on 4.5 years now. I am a prime example that you can still play EVE and not have to PvP 23/7. I have spent most of my time mining, agent running, exploring, building and researching. However I have been in plenty of combat but I prefer the support role. Its a game that allows you to fly into deep deep space and have that feeling of being isolated and then head back to the main hubs and its a traffic jam.
It is still the only game I have ever played where you can still get a lot of value out of your starting sector. It does not force you to level through the normal level brackets and then pushes you into one zone then another. Also means the devs get a lot more value out of their design work.
Aw man, stop it please. I've been taking a short break while I digress into AOC, but all this talk is making me want to get back into the game. (my accts are still active, just training atm)
Maybe I'll just check it out a bit over the weekend, for an hour or two you know?

errr extremly realistic?? nah there is many others which is more realistic than EVE and EVE is not even close Darkspace when it comes to realism. Darkspace is far superior to EVE when it comes to pvp unfortunatly it's an old game which is only pvp based and thus very few play it... but still rank as one of the best space mmo's I ever tried and I tried Darkspace several years after I've been playing EVE... seems like the games are degenerating by the years.
So please tell me what's so extremly realistic about EVE... I'm very eager to hear what you find realstic... cause I cannot find anything realistic about EVE ruling out the fact that it's a sci-fi game.

Meh that looks all cartoony and no where near realistic....
Realistic... Hmmm... so many ways to go about this.Well for one with the right motivation you "CAN" be shot down anywhere anytime even if your ship gets blown to pieces by the police and you lose security rating it's... still possible and an option for a risky bounty hunter who might run a suicide for some cash, assuming he has a tiny ship that can basically get one shoted, but if he has a bigger one then you need alot of bounty hunters to get the job done. That for 1 is something that no MMO has out there.
When i say realistic i mean its a game where everything is possible. When you find a game that beats that answer above which is 1 on about 500 answers why EVE is more realistic, you let me know okay bro?
