LotRO the answer for a disenchanted Wower?

Having always been a fan of the console RPG a few years ago some friends got me into WoW as both a source of entertainment and a means by which to keep in touch as I was moving to Asia.

Though the story in wow leaves much to be desired, and the quests dont really make you feel like you are part of the world, being my 1st MMO I was awed and in love w/ the community and the world as a whole.

However, 3 lvl 70's, and a dead Illidan later, I feel it is time to move on.

I have been researching where to go and I have been leaning towards LotRO. It has a story line that I have loved since i was a small child and from what I have read you really feel as if you matter in the world the dev's have created.

I also have heard, however, that though many people have gone from WoW to LotRO and loved it, people who were serious in Raiding and endgame content in wow have hated it. They say the boss fights dont require anywhere near the skill or cohesiveness that they do in WoW and the scripting leaves much to be desired. I have also read that population just isnt quite there for LotRO yet (thought those articles were a few months old).

Is that all true? and if it is, is the leveling experience and the journey towards endgame immersive and interesting enough to make up for whatever the endgame may lack at this point?

I am downloading the free trial as I type this. I t should be done sometime Sunday night. (6gigs of DL on a not so hot dsl connection meh). Just curious what i'm in for. strictly a matter of opinion but for those of you who have played WoW do you think LotRO is a good move for someone who at one point truly loved WoW?

Are there really population problems? Just looking for some advise. thx in advance guys and gals...

If you're a gear and raid whore from WoW you probably won't like LOTRO.

If you like a rich world, deep and detailed quests, and lots of lore you'll probably like LOTRO.  There's no comparison in quests.  Almost all your xp in LOTRO comes from questing.  You get very little from grinding and killing.  The quest dialogues are very detailed.  I'm one of those people who like to read them.

They're different paced games.  Just don't go into it with a WoW mindset.  There ARE other good games out there other than WoW.  It's okay to admit it.

On a side note I heavily loved WoW at one point.  I was a hardcore raider back in the 40 man days.  But that crap gets real old, real quick.   LOTRO is a nice change of pace and the game has been solid since launch and gets better with every book expansion.

LotRO is a good game.  The pace is slower than WoW.  It focuses more on story and exploration than combat.  The landscapes are great and the community is even better.  I play on Landroval, the unoffciial RP server, and the population is solid.  Easy to get group quests done, you run into plenty of people out in the world, and Bree is always busy. If you enjoying RPing then that adds a whole new layer of fun to the game and this game really lends itself to RP.

That said, I am playing LotRO until WAR comes out.   LotRO is fun, but it is not something I plan to play for years.

I used to play WOW back in the 40 man days as well, and really I didn't like it much.  The game was way to predictable and I hated the end game content.  I don't like the idea that people say WOW really begins at 70, the end game is the best part of WOW.  If that is the case then WOW is terrible just people haven't realized it or haven't opened there eyes to what is out there.

Compared to WOW LOTRO is a damn beautiful game, if you have the ability to do DX10 then I highly suggest it, to see the sunlight shining through the trees creating leaf shadows that move on the ground...awwing is all I can say.  Turbine put alot of love into the art of this game and of course had to follow a strict storyline as not to tick off any Tolkin fans.  The game is alot slower passed, but you do feel like your apart of something bigger, especially if your into the story.  Personally I never made it to max level in LOTRO just not enough time to devote to it with my GF and 2 jobs.  However if you like storys I would definatly play LOTRO.

I hope you like your experiance, and remember Turbine will be giving out update after update with this game so it will ALWAYS be changing.

I was a long time WoW player until I quit to try AoC. AoC just didn't cut it for me so I looked around and thought I would try Lotro again.

45 days in, I have just got to 20 and secured my undying title, immediately replaced with my Pie-Eating champion title. The game is full of stuff to do and see.

If you read Lord of the Rings and ever thought about visiting Rivendell or seeing Bilbo's trolls, this is the game for you. If you are the sort of person who enjoys the journey to 50 more then being 50 Lotro is for you.

If your about loot and raiding 24/7 then I personally would look elsewhere.
