Like many others are soon to do, just like before Burning Crusade hit, i'm quitting WoW until the next expansion. Why, you might ask? cause there's no point in doing a grind for the best 70 gear when in less than 6 months, it will become instantly obsolete and replaceable with Northrend greens.. not to mention i'm becoming very disenfranchised with the game seeing how it's basically becoming one big AOL chat room full of stupid kids and bad spelling/grammar.
WoW is now the WALMART of MMO's: It has mass appeal, everything is easy to do in it now, and consequently it's chock full of idiots.. yet we keep playing or coming back to it regardless. it's also having a huge negative effect on other games.. Most of the other MMO's are quite frankly feeling like ghost towns..
I tried out LOTRO but there just wasn't enough content, the game isnt nearly fully developed yet, there's no end-game to speak of and the gameplay/fun factor is restricted by the LOTR lore.
I tried going back to EQ2 but couldn't get into it again, its become very anti-social and unfriendly to new/returning players and its a long grind to get anywhere, and I hate the crafting system which confines you to a dungeon for hours on end to gain a level to upgrade your skills..
I tried going back to DAOC after 5 years but its just too much of a ghost town and you know with Warhammer coming it's either going to be shut down or put way on the back burner and drop even further in population.
I refuse to go back to games like UO, SWG, Lineage 2 cause I consider them dead and futureless.
it just seems like a really crappy time for MMO's in general when we have WoWmart absolutely dominating in population and everything else dwindling with every passing day. I'm almost at a loss for what to do when I want to game now.. Vanguard maybe? Tabula Rasa? AoC? Preferrably something that won't murder my graphics card as my PC is no longer top of the line.. anyone have suggestions or feedback?

Vanguard, best mmo right now

LOTRO, best mmo out right now
City of Heroes, just a damn good game.
FFXI is doing pretty well if you want somthing harder
Vanguards on the rise
"LOTRO, best mmo out right now"
Except that it's not, I played it for a while, there is NO end game at all, no pvp to speak of and for a game that desperately needs more content, its development is happening at a snails pace.
I'd appreciate if people could give serious answers and some reasons why, and note the part where I already said I tried LOTRO, EQ2, DAOC, etc. Also, any game that doesn't have a trial is going to be a hard-sell to get me or anyone else to shell out cash before knowing what its like or if my PC can run it smoothly.
Do all the free trials, that should hold your interest if you do it till release.
Check out the Korean free MMOs too.
Looking at your comments on other games I think your best bet is WoW, when WotLK comes out. So you don't really need an MMOG with a future. I'd suggest going for something that differs in play-style and look-and-feel than the ones you've tried.
Anarchy Online - the direct opposite of WoW concerning learning curve and solo-(vi)ability
EVE Online
Ryzom (if it really starts up again)
City of Heroes/Villains
Pirates of the Burning Sea
Vanguard, its horribly addictive! reminds me of my EQ lifeless era...ahh
anyway i think the trial will come out next month.
Pirates of the Burning Sea
I wouldnt try out POTBS really, no free trial and its just boring at 50, its just a bunch of people complaining about how theres no one willing to pvp.

Wow, giving a wow'er satisfaction huh?
And Lotro do have Pvp, just in another way. And it sounds like you have played til level50, or just listened to friends of yours..? Because i had juicy content to my 30's.
Eve is a awesome game, but it's complex and has a real mean learning curve. Doesn't fit everyone, but it can be hellafun if it does.
Or try Perfect world, it's said to be the chinese wow anyways
The speed of the mole and the power of steel is my weapon
You could try EQ2.
Get a 2months free (full) game time code from a EQ2 key thread.
Go play the game.
I suggest to get in a guild asap and find new friends to play with so you get the hang of the game its pretty hard.
At least for me.
And Im in the same situation as you, waiting for wotlk.
Well I personally don't just play games for the end game, it's all about the journey for me and Lotro is a fun ride.
Tabula Rasa is instant fail , has a 3 day trial, and gets very boring quick.
AoC is great till you get to the endgame and everything is messed up or not there, wait 6 months at least to play....which you wont since thats when your crap WoW expansion comes out
Truthfully there is no game out there for WoW fanbois, there is only one WoW and nothing else will do for you.
The above poster is completely true, It's like wow raped me and then kicked me out (Got perm banned), and I cant seem to find another MMORPG to replace it because it just doesnt give me that feel it did.

I would also recommend Vanguard. Very fun and with the new GU6 coming out next month the game just keeps getting better and better.
Welcome to the world of F2P. Just download any game and play for FREE.
Well, to clarify a few things.. i'm not a WoW "fanboi" by any means, in fact I despise that term because it implies a person that will defend something without logic, evidence or rationality. I realize WoW is a shithole right now due to the millions of little ADHD kids playing and that large demographic causing blizzard to dumb-down the game to where the end-game is not challenging anymore. The WoW I just quit can't even hold a candle to the Naxx/AQ40/PvP ranking system days, to be sure, and thats why I canceled.
Also I should clarify i'm by no means new to MMO's, quite the opposite really. I played meridian 59, I played UO back when it was awesome around 97-99, I played DAOC when it was at its peak, I played diablo 1 & 2 religiously, I played Lineage 2, EQ2, FFXI, AC2 before it folded, SWG.. nearly everything really except recent things like Vanguard, AoC, TR, etc. I'm not a blizzard 'fanboi' so much as a supporter because they generally make good, entertaining games, and I know the expansion will be able to hold my interest for a while despite the bad player community.
There is some truth in WoW spoiling people for other games though, can't say why exactly but i'm still having a hard time finding a substitute for it, or maybe i'm just getting tired of MMO's after all these years..
WOW is really a good game, although I quit long before TBC released. As I know some people still playing WOW are usualy a hord of friends in real life. They all playing together in the weekend or holiday and WOW could be the best platform for group play.
If you dont have friends playing WOW together then it maybe less fun.
Although I quit LOTRO but LOTRO Europe has very good community and nearly all guilds are good.
I think anyone who thinks WoW has or had good pvp is a fanboi tbh.
