Anyone who’s played GTA IV remembers that infamous rape scene in the game, which allowed to accumulate points and…what’s that? You…you don’t remember that? Oooooh, that’s right, because there wasn’t one. Well, try explaining that to Connecticut Senator, Gayle Slossberg (D). She’s apparently convinced that the rape scene is there, she just has to get far enough along in the game to access it. At a press conference last week, she stated a law requiring clearer warning labels was needed to curb the corruption of youth. She doesn’t seem to know quite what the labels should read though, considering this statement on them:
“I mean what would it say? ‘This game will make you a sociopath’?”
Yeah, they really need to label those games better to make sure parents know about all the wild and crazy scenarios that aren’t actually in the game itself. Like how in Pokemon Snap, Pikachu would sometimes sell you drugs in exchange for sexual favors. That got you bonus points from Professor Oak, as I recall.

I hope she doesn't spend too much time in the game searching, or she herself may be corrupted and go on a murderous rampage.
Screw the evidence, let's just start piling up all the games and burning them before it's too late!
What I'm playing now.
Well, it's about time someone in Congress realized the seriousness of virtual in game rape. I believe that she should mobilize the FBI, NSA, CIA, Homeland Security, Department of Agriculture, and Housing and Urban Developement to commit substantiual resources to the investigation and find this hidden scene.
In times of economic turbulence, what, with people losing their homes, watching their retirement savings drop with the market, mergers of Wall Street investment firms, bank failures, a war in the middle east, and all the rest of the trivial issues confronting America today, I am proud that at least one member of Congress can see through all the distractions and get right to the heart of America's major problem.....the alledged rape scene in Grand Theft Auto.
Keep up the good work Congresswoman!
IMO, there should be petitions to nuke japan again for all the games they make CENTERED around rape.

doesnt make no damn sense. A senator is playing the game to find a rape scene but they think its cinematic art when 11 year old (back then) Dakota Fanning wanted to play a girl being raped.

nutty double standard

It was also considered art when Brooke Shields played a prostitute at the age of 11 in Pretty Baby. As I recall, she had a couple of full nude scenes in that movie as well as a full blown sex scene. But that was "art" so that made it all okay....

Don't forget "Blue Lagoon".

/agreed but I guess the game medium isn't art. Grrr Politicians; all of em makes me want to vomit

Good for her. Even if there isn't a rape scene I applaud her for trying to get this piece of shit off of store shelves. This is a game that glorifies gangs, murders, and violence. It may not cause you to go out on the streets with a AK-47 and shoot everyone you see but to kids it has a terrible and profound influence. It sickens me to find that I am the first person who has posted this and that all of you find it terrible that a politician is actually doing their job for once.
Parental responisibility... the rating scale is on ATLEAST two parts of the boxes and is taken by the video game industry much more seriously than other entertainment industries handle their rating
Just reconize it forwhat this is, political bravado for voter appeal.
I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.
That's because we are people who have been gaming for years and are still free to post on the internet, instead of in prison somewhere.
games have a "terrible and profound influence" = baseless argument
I don't pay politicians to parent children. That's what parents are for.
Doing there job for once? How bout they do there job everday instead of just once. Like making life better for all of us by lowering taxes, enforcing immagration laws, and stop selling out to special interests.
I can think of a hundred things they could do better, and the only thing they seem to do right is screw us over. Want to stop rape? Hang the SOBs, that would send a better message.
I disagree
If politicians want to get stop rape and sensless violence then they need to get at the root of the problem rather than a politican trying to play a video game to find a rape scene.
People have been methodically (and unmethodically) killing each other way long before the advent of a video game. Time we wake up and realize that.

I'm glad that you're sickened, since I'd be alone otherwise. It sickens me that you're a sheep who buys into every half-baked piece of political BS designed solely to advance somebody's agenda. Here's a hint. It's not kids who are the ones being unduly influenced here. It's you. A few basics follow.
Here is where violence is:
In our music.
In our television.
In our movies.
In our literature.
In our games.
On our streets.

When GTA4 is depicting something that is ugly, it makes it ugly at the same time it makes it funny. It only adds the humor because the game would be too dark to be accessible otherwise. It doesn't put this stuff on a pedestal. It doesn't make it seem like something you should do in the real world.
Also, I'm kinda glad games like GTA4 are out there. If there is one lie that sheltered white suburbanites like to tell themselves, it's that all the problems of the past are solved. There are no places in the US where racism is just as bad as it was in the 50's, where black people still have to walk on eggshells (false). There are no immigrant communities left in the US which are essentially run by organized crime (false). There are no neighborhoods in major cities left where people simply don't go out after dark because it's the wild west out there and cops and purely reactive (false).
But yeah, lets ignore all of the above problems. Gotta stop dem video games. Anyhow, it's your dumb vote she's counting on winning with that shpiel, buddy. You can be damn sure she doesn't give a shit about this stuff personally. GG to you.
stop replying to this dope.

-I will subtlety invade your psyche-
Whether or not a game glorifies a negative aspect, its not the place of the Government to tell us what not or to buy. Thats the peoples job. People determine right and wrong. The Government simply should theorectically uphold it. Hehe mind you thats rarely what happens and if a society slips down the slope of depravity on its own... Well we all know what comes next.

So your saying ignore the video games and correct the real problems. Sure I am all for that but I woud prefer if we did both. Also, yes violence is everywhere, but it doesn't have to be. For example, movies. Our society is desensitized to violence that movies like Rambo, which is quite possible the goriest and most voilent movies I have ever seen, is given an R rating while a movie with only the human body shown (i.e. breasts) is given an R no questions asked.

I state my opinion and get called a dope? Wow, I knew that one immature poster would come along. I respect your opinion so out of common courtesy
do not turn to insults and respect mine.
v1c1, most of us are adults or in our late teens, we can careless about violence in video games.(except for the few parents out there, but its their choice to let their kid play GTA) We know games =/= reality.
Playing: EVE Online
Favorite MMOs: WoW, SWG Pre-cu, Lineage 2, UO, EQ, EVE online

There is only one solution to this problem. Make rape legal.
Then we'll just kill games altogether, then. No more Mario, since jumping on turtles to kill them is violent. No more Pokemon, since breeding animals to fight is illegal and morally wrong. And so on and so on.
Would you like to have a public book burning as well?
well, pokemon's trainer...is his name Ash? He needs to go to Prison. Sonofabitch kept on putting them in those little balls and then when it's time he hosts pretty much a cock fight.
He needs to go to jail. And Pacman....prison. I know eating his enemies can be used in self defense but he should never get himself in that predictament where he had to eat his enemies alive.

That's because the rating system that defines those movies determines that they have content that should only be viewed by an ADULT mind. You know, "R" for "RESTRICTED." In our society, violence and sexual themes are considered 18+.
How is this an issue?
The rating system is there. The parents are there to determine whether they think their children should view it. THERE IS NO PROBLEM.
The only problem here is people like you who have decided that it's your job to be the morality police. Guess what guy? YOU are in the wrong country. Move to China. They love that kind of stuff there.
